Hired company for residential move from Dallas, TX to North Andover, MA. Pick up was fine, as scheduled and on time on 1/05/09. Delivery est. 1/15-17. Finally showed up on 1/20 5pm. Company had promised one person would be the same, they were not. Weight estimate very wrong, with additional $2490 charged after weigh in, even though the owner personally evaluated our belongings. However, it took 5 guys 12 hours to load, which was not a problem. They came for delivery with only 2 guys. These guys worked until 2 am (I had to work the next day). We finally told them to stop for the night, as we were afraid that they were too tired and too cold (17 degrees outside) and going to get hurt. We also knew that they had already unloaded two or three other households that same day. We had them sleep in our house, afraid to have them leave with the truck, in case they wouldn't show back up in a timely fashion or at all. I then woke them up at 7 am so they could start again. At 11:30 pm that night (1/21) everything was in the house, but they had not put everything back together. I was exhausted and told them to leave anyway. In the process, due to either carelessness or exhaustion, they dented a wall that will now have to be repaired. There was plenty of room for them to maneuver, they just shoved a piece of furniture into the wall. More of a problem was that they were unable to move two heavy crates of glass to the basement since there were only two of them. It had been promised that this would be done. I will now have to hire some people here to do it, and my own added expense. When the pick up occurred in Dallas I personally watched them extensively cover my $1000 mattress in plastic wrap. When it arrived it was totally uncovered, dirty, and smelling of smoke. I have now discovered that they chose to put their cigarettes out on the side of my wooden house, ruining the paint in several locations. Additionally, I know that by law in the case of a non binding moving estimate, I have the option at delivery to pay 110% at delivery, with 30 days following delivery to arrange payment of the difference. When I explained my intentions at 11:30 at night the gentleman became very upset, causing me to have some concern for my safety. He said that he would lose his job if the foreman found out, and that I had agreed to the price. I wanted to withhold the remaining balance to have my issues resolved, however, I felt too threatened and was strong armed into paying the entire balance against my will. On a last note, as far as my concerns for safety of the general population, these guys after working for at least 32 hours straight at my house not counting driving with only a 4 hour nap, they then got into an 18 wheeler and went back onto the highways heading to the next job. This is without counting the previous moves the day they arrived. One guy actually said that their logs were in violation. This worries me about highway/driving safety.
