Hangs around Home Depot and offers lower prices and better service. We got neither. He did not draw up a contract and he kept changing the price of his services. We have a very old home in poor condition that we are slowly remodeling so we can sell when I retire. It is like most old homes with a lot of warts and issues. Dwayne Mitchell inspected this house before agreeing to take the job. From the beginning Dwayne Mitchell pressured us to do more than I had agreed to ( just the flooring) and then he changed his prices several times. He also asked for cash for supplies and provided only one receipt and it did not match what we gave him. He did not call before he came and came whenever he pleased. My wife had to rearrange several doctor appts. due to him taking so long. . She called him once at 10 am one day to see when he was arriving. He offers no excuse or apology for not calling at all.. He showed her keys he had to a lot of houses in an attempt to gain her trust .. His other clients trusted him, he said. It was Sept 10 and he still had not finished laying the floor and the doorway entrances. . The doorways require a buildup, esp the kitchen .He was aware of this as he inspected the floors before taking the job. He left Sept 10 and said we'd have to call him to finish the doorways. This of course would require more money outlay. We had had enough. . I had no intention of calling him back, I had had enough. We are sorry we did not use Home Depot as at least they would have moved furniture and the price on the contract would have included the doorway buildup. They also would not have taken 3 weeks to lay a floor and pressured us to paint when we weren't really ready to do so.... The walls were in average condition , with one of them having had grass board on it from the 70's and it had a tiny hole in it. He made a big deal out of patching it and a tiny hole in the closet door that he did not paint anyhow. . He also did a poor job of putting down the laminate. It has peaks in it and he did not offer to fix them after we showed them to him. He originally had put the floor down and the laminate did not even meet the molding,.There was a huge gap between the end of the laminate and the molding. He did fix this after I showed it to him. I can't imagine how he MISSED that when he put it down. It was glaringly oblivious..The paint on the ceiling is what , used to be called crow footing., It would look good if he had not got it on so thick,.It looks thick and heavy . The paint on the walls is average. . It is quite possible Dwayne Mitchell feels he undercharged and therefore he may feel the VICTIM here..He first told us a price for the floors $100 less than Home Depot and then raised it back up with no explanation ( and we still had to move the furniture ourselves) .He did this with the painting, start at one price, change it, always upward. This was a bad experience for us. We are fixing up this old house to sell when I retire in about 3 yrs and this has wasted my precious retirement money and done a poor job. I would never do business again with him or anyone hanging around Home Depot. To add, we had to hire someone to try and fix the mess this guy made. I have to say that if all the skill it took to lay a laminate floor was to snap it together, I could have done that. There were gaps at all entrances and no way to really fix it unless we just relay the floor. So we are down to using wood putty and caulk on our new floor. This so called floor layer could not even cut things to precision. I am appalled at the way he left our floor and the only way to fix it really is to relay it or put carpet over it. Also I checked more carefully and he left paint all over the place.I will have to do his clean up for him. Avoid this guy like the plague.
Description of Work: Originally gave me an estimate after seeing house to lay 3 rooms and a hallway of laminate purchased at home depot . I decided to go with Home Depot due to their guarantees. . There were delays with Home Depot and a sub floor had to be built, and Dwayne Mitchell hangs around Home Depot and offered to do job for less than the Home Depot contract amount.. He agrees to lay sub floor for a separate price. That was the original job. The job required build up at the kitchen entrance and the main entrance. Eventually he pressured us to paint two rooms and the hallway.
