On the initial visit, I had to repeat myself over an over, because the representative did not seem to be listening to me. She consulted with a male employee, who proceeded to ask me questions in a patronizing tone. He tried to explain to me that it is normal for a manual transmission to "shudder" when the RPM isn't high enough, and that this was called "stalling." He asked me if I had tried downshifting when this occurred. I explained again that I have been driving this car for almost half of my life, I am very familiar with standard transmissions and how they operate, and that this was strange and unusual behavior for my vehicle, that operated optimally at lower RPMs than currently required. The next day I received a call from Christian Brothers, the representative explained that two of my cylinders were misfiring and the solution was to replace the spark plugs and ignition cables. He quoted me $420 for this repair, not including diagnostics, shop supply fees (what is this exactly?), and other "recommended" repairs. I asked for a quote by email and time to review and consider my decision. I decided that $420 for spark plugs and ignition cables was too pricey for me, especially since I am capable of installing them myself. I agreed to one of the other recommended fixes: my broken hood release and trunk release panel. Some years ago, the hood release would not work and was ripped out by a different automotive mechanic. Long story and nothing to do with Christian Brothers. They called me on Friday to let me know the work was complete and my car was ready for pick up. I informed them I was working all that day and would be unable to pick up my vehicle until Monday. Monday morning, this morning, I arrived at Christian Brothers and noticed my vehicle's driver's side window was all the way down. I entered the lobby, stated my name and my intention to pick up my vehicle. I then asked the representative, the same who originally spoke to me in a patronizing tone, for the reason my window was left down all weekend. His initial reaction was unconcerned and he told me he didn't know the reason. I explained that I thought it was very unprofessional for them to treat their customers' property with such disrespect, and that it made me very uncomfortable to know that the window had been down all weekend, leaving my car vulnerable to theft. He, still unconcerned, told me the car was locked from the inside. I told him that wouldn't stop someone from crawling through the wide open window and hot-wiring the engine. He didn't respond. Then I stated that it could have rained over the weekend. Still unapologetic and unsympathetic, he said they check the weather and roll up the windows if it's going to rain. I asked what they did when it rained unexpectedly. He did not respond. I paid for my repair and was asked to wait while he asked the tech, who worked on my vehicle, why my window was left down. A few minutes later he returned and said, still unapologetic, that the tech rolled the window down while working on my vehicle (the reason for this was not given) and he forgot to roll the window up. I responded that I didn't see why it was necessary to roll the window down for this repair, and if the techs can't remember to roll them up, then they shouldn't roll them down in the first place. I repeated how uncomfortable it made me that they treated my car with such apathy, and that I would not return for work in the future because I felt that I could not trust them with my property.

They gave me an estimate for half the rate of the collision center and other body shops that I took that car to, and when they finished I could not tell where their work started and ended. The body work was flawless and we were very pleased with their low rates as the collision center wanted to charge upwards of $1100 for the repair.

I had a really good experience with Christian Brothers Automotive. The problem was with the clutch and it was very very serious. It was a really big job and I was afraid the car was gone. They really did a good job and they saved the car. They were very very accommodating. They made sure I understood everything that they were doing and why. I felt that they were very honest.

I decided to give Christian Brothers White Rock location a second chance. My AC was acting up and blowing hot on the drivers side. After researching it on the internet I decided to take it into the shop and get it fixed well because it is July in Texas! When I walked in I discussed the issue, and that I thought it was the AC Actuator. In discussing with the person behind the desk he said yeah but it could also be a control board but we can figure it out. I asked specifically how much an AC Actuator repair ran and he told me typically $300-$350 for drivers side. I told him I would wait and so I sat down to read my book I had brought. About 30 min in the person running the desk said they could not get it to act up and says he needs a little more time to diagnose it. I decide to leave and they gave me a ride home as I had a lunch to get to. I get ready and notice it had been an hour since I had left the shop. I thought that was very strange as they had spent 1.5 hr still under diagnosis. I do know a thing or two about auto repair shops and how they pay their mechanics. I do the math in my head and think back to what they had told me on the guestimate and it did not make since so I called. They politely explained that they did not have an estimate yet and Vince would call me back. Vince is not the person I spoke to when I dropped my vehicle off.
I am driving to lunch and my phone rings and it is Vince. Tells me it is the AC Actuator and it would be $1,000 dollars. I about dropped the phone in shock. I told Vince that when I brought the vehicle in they told me drivers side actuator was around $300 - $350 so that is what I was expecting. He then told me that they had to take the dash apart and they are ready to get it installed. I asked him how much the part was and he told me it was around $250 dollars but the labor was in getting the dash apart. I told Vince I was sorry but I dealt in cash and I did not have a 1,000 dollars. I also explained that if they told me when I walked in that morning that it would have been anywhere near 1,000 dollars I would have turned around and walked out. Something did not add up on why it was so expensive based on original conversation.
Interesting part is when I go to pick up the vehicle you could tell Vince was very frustrated. He told me he understood not having the money to be able to do the work BUT that he still had to pay his mechanic. He went on to say how much work he had done in the diagnosis and taking things apart. Again, I explain what I expected in price based on the initial conversation. Vince told me "I could go to the Ford dealership and I am looking at a minimum of $1,200". I did not argue, nor tell him it was a GMC and walked out.
I drove the vehicle for a week and finally could not take the heat. I went to Sewell GMC where I have had my vehicle serviced before. Not known for the cheapest but a high level of service. Told them it was blowing hot on drivers side and was told it was an actuator and the shop quoted me a $1,000. The service manager said well let us check the codes but we are probably going to make you very happy. Thirty minutes later told me it was drivers side actuator and total would be $470 out the door. I agreed and an hour later I was out the door with my vehicle fixed.
My personal opinion is that the person at the front whom quoted me the $350 was exactly right. I think that the mechanic was either inexperienced or did not know what he was doing and spent a lot of time which Christian Brothers tried to pass the labor cost off to me. I think this because of the comment well I still have to pay my mechanic. I believe the cost was trying to be passed off to me. If they read their reviews it is Error Code B0408 so this does not happen again.
I said this was their second chance. When I had my vehicle serviced at their shop when it reached 100k miles for $1,322 one of the services performed was a top of the line transmission service. Drove the vehicle for a week and transmission had some odd behavior on shift points and felt like it was slippling. I was in Plano and stopped by the Transmission Shop. Two quarts low, no leaks. Top of the line service and can't even fill it up?
I am done with Christian Brothers.

We use them a lot. They have loaner cars. They are great and honest. We trust what they tell us because we've checked and they are always true to word. They do full service and they also do warranty work if our cars are under warranty. We will always use them.

I am the owner of a 1996 Jeep. In December 2009 I took my jeep to Christian Brothers Automotive and they stated I needed a new starter. • Once they replaced the starter the very next day my jeep would not start again. • My jeep was again taken to their shop and they stated they could not find the problem. • Once the jeep was returned this problem occurred again and they stated that the starter must have been bad and replaced it. • After that I was stranded several times because my jeep would not start. • My jeep was returned to Christian Brothers countless times before they checked cables which they said were loose. • In summary, my jeep was taken to their shop on at least five (5) different occasions for the starter issue before it was finally repaired.
Response from Christian Brothers Automotive
"The reason we could not find the problem is because the vehicle started for us each time. Unlike other shops who would charge each time, we did not. THE CUSTOMER ALSO FAILED TO TELL YOU THAT WE PERFORMED VALET SERVICES 15 TIMES, ALSO FOR FREE, WHERE WE PICKED UP AND DELIVERED THE VEHICLE WHEN THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT."

I am the owner of a 1997 Mercedes. I was in need of car repair so I called Christian Brothers Automotive and asked specifically if they were experienced in working on Mercedes vehicles and if they always used "new Mercedes parts" for any/all work to be done on my vehicle. They represented and warranted that they did in fact have experience in working on Mercedes vehicles and that they only use "new Mercedes parts" for all repairs. • I took my vehicle to Christian Brothers because the check engine light was on. While addressing that issued Christian Brothers advised me that I needed to have my rear brake pads replaced. • Once I received my vehicle back the brakes began squeaking and there was a smell of smoke coming from the rear left tire. When my car was originally taken to Christian Brothers my brakes were not squeaking nor did I smell smoke coming from the back. I specifically asked them if they were true Mercedes parts and they replied "they believed so". • My vehicle had to be returned to Christian Brothers five (5) times and in that period they advised that they once again replaced the brake pads only now saying they were in fact true Mercedes brake pads and that they replaced the rotors. • After three months of my car in and out of their shop the problem was still not resolved. • Christian Brothers were paid $1,055.00. • We had to take my vehicle to another Mercedes establishment and they advised that none of the parts were in fact Mercedes parts replaced by Christian Brothers. We had to pay an additional $430.60 to the new establishment to have both the rotors and brake pads replaced.. I could not in good faith recommend Christian Brothers Automotive to do any type of repairs on a vehicle because they misrepresented themselves and were deceptive.
Response from Christian Brothers Automotive
"Customer is lying about what we said. The parts we put on her vehicle were BETTER than Mercedes, which we documented to customer. Customer imagined on at least six occasions her brakes were making noise. EACH time we brought it to the shop, AGAIN performing free valet service, there was NO noise with the brakes. Most shops would charge when no noise was there, but we did not. We gave her money back in good faith."

We brought in the vehicle b/c of battery problems. They didn't find anything wrong with the battery but found other issues which we addressed. Two months later, we had to replace the battery b/c of continued problems (which we did elsewhere). Not sure if it conicidental or they missed something.

We had brought multiple cars to this facility and had previously been satisfied. They performed some routine maintenance including a fuel induction cleaning after which I had a major engine malfunction. When I brought the vehicle back to the facility, they denied any responsibility for the damage to the engine. I subsequently brought the car to the dealership who confirmed there was a screw dropped in the motor. The motor was subsequently replaced at my cost of $10, 000. The owner of Christian Brothers did offer to repair the damage to the motor( that I felt they caused initially) for a few thousand dollars. I had also asked him if his shop insurance would cover their work but he said we didnt need to do that.either. Christian Brothers was the only facility that had ever performed any motor work. We had noticed a change in the culture at this site approximately two years ago when they changed either ownership or management. They have certainly confirmed our suspicion. I feel that they were a penny wise and a pound foolish. We certainly do not feel they demonstrated any Christian values during our encounter with them, although they were polite.

They told me what the problems were and what the solutions were. They corrected the wheel alignment and balanced the tires and told me that I would probably need new shocks. They did an outstanding job in identifying the problems and what needed to be done in correcting it. They also told me what to do to prevent it from happening. Their price was fair. They were good and reasonable. They were in line with other places.

I had my truck towed to their location after hours. They called first thing in the morning to let me know the price of the diagnostic, $89. They called back to give me and estimate which I wasn't thrilled about saying the fuel pump was about $500. So apparently the labor is a bit steep. I called back to let them know they could get a cheaper on at AutoZone when they informed me I didn't want to use Auto Zone parts. They already had started on the job so I didn't have much of a choice. I don't care if it's better quality, I just want it to work. It has close to 170,000 miles on it. Is an Auto Zone car really going to c*** out before the rest of the truck dies or I get rid of it? They did finish it pretty quickly, at least it didn't take more than a day, which I would have been in trouble if it did take longer because they're not open on weekends. I was pleasantly surprised when I went to pick it up because they completely detailed the truck. Washed outside, vacuumed the inside, even cleaned the windows inside which I've been meaning to do because they had dog slobber all over them. So aside from having to pay so much, I was very satisfied with their service.
Response from Christian Brothers Automotive
"Some parts lend themselves to using other than the dealer part, but in this case, aftermarket parts DO NOT work properly. We keep up with what our competition charges for labor, and generally beat dealer labor by 20-30%, and our competitors by at least 10% on labor. Thanks for the compliment on washing your car."

Experienced the normal signs of brakes needing repair (e.g., soft pedal, grinding noise), so we took the vehicle in on a Thursday to have it looked at. The service manager advised me that they were pretty busy to it might be tomorrow before a free estimate could be performed. That was acceptable to us so we left it. Service manager gave me his business card before we left and said they would be in touch soon. Friday morning the service manager called with an estimate of the work. It was within the range I had in mind for what was described (e.g., replacing pads, turning the rotors, etc.) The work was completed later that day. I was unable to pick up on Friday and they are closed on the weekends so they took my payment information over the phone and locked the keys with the receipt in the car so we could pick up anytime over the weekend. They also provided a car wash/interior cleaning after service. Nice touch.
