Alvarado's Tile

Alex gave great recommendations on where to purchase tile ourselves that both saved us money and gave us better options. He was professional and respectful of our home. He did an absolutely beautiful job on the fireplace. The marble tile fits seamlessly in next to our wood floor (even better than previous tile had). We couldn't be happier with the end result. Would definitely hire again!

Overall the results were great. Alex was professional, helpful, and efficient. Based on the range of estimates I had received, I expected the job to take longer. Alex was in the middle range as far as price. I believe the highest and the lowest bidders on our project did not fully understand the project or have the capabilities to complete it. Alex had a very clear idea about how to finish our project. He provided suggestions and advice with excellent customer service and provided a complete and technical answer for why his solution would give me the results I was looking for. I had prepared the backboard and wall features myself and he did a great job finishing where I left off. A number of tile guys I talked to refused to apply tile if they did not prepare the backer boards. Alex also provided solid references upon request. Each day the work area was cleaned. I would definitely hire him again.

Alex did a wonderful job on my remodel! He worked quickly, showed up and finished when he said he would. He was professional, easy to work with, and did beautiful work too! I could not be more happy with all three bathrooms and the price I paid (approximately $5300 + materials). The only constructive criticism I have is that buying supplies became a little inconvenient at times since some stores would not allow payment over the phone and my schedule would not allow time to buy the materials myself. It would have been easier if Alex were to buy supplies and allow me to reimburse him. But everything worked out and I am thrilled with the results. I recommend Alex to anyone who wants to work with a reliable contractor that produces great results. I will be contacting him again to have my kitchen backsplash installed.

I had imagined one pattern but when Alex arrived he said he would like to do a pattern he thought would fit. He chose a diagonal inset with a border of rectangular tiles and it looks great, another reason for the A. But it took more labor in tile cutting than I think he put into his estimate. He also finished the edges nicely.
He wanted to do the job in a day, but tile setting is a three day process spread over 5 days: bed the tile in thinset, let it cure, grout, let the grout cure (2-3 days) then seal. He did the job in three consecutive days and we had cold and rain to contend with, he should have taken more time, but so far I have not seen a problem (crumbling grout, etc.). Both the grout and sealer were put down at temperatures below the product label minimums.
There were two setting quality problems, a few grout lines were not straight, but with slate, even with a factory finish straight edge, that is not that much of a problem, and one tile was not level (the concrete could have been chipped into to level it) and an edge sticks up.
He also called in and quot;advanceand quot;, but in reality when he called each day he was standing at my (locked) back yard gate. I infer if it hadn't been locked he may have come and gone without letting me know he was on site. With today's cell phones such a call is appreciated but it truly needs to be and quot;in advanceand quot;.
When I gave him my check (he didn't ask for anything up front since I supplied most of the materials-except for his thinset) he was concerned that it was drawn on a San Antonio bank (I am in Dallas). He kept saying his bank might have a problem with it. And sure enough his and quot;bankand quot; was a check cashing service and they called me.
I was satisfied, with the and quot;Cand quot; rating for Professionalism related to the work not following manufacturer specs (I know many contractors push those limits based on experience) and the check issue (I would have paid him in cash).

He is super proffesional and always shows up exactly when he says he will be there!
His customer service is great as well. I had a bit of a grout issue and he came right over to fix it, no questions asked and I only had to call once! I would highly reconmend him for ANY tile job, he knows his stuff!!! :-0

The crew came three days in a row, worked steady and finished as planned. The only problem is the general contractor did not pay him as promised and they had a hard time collecting. Next time I will hire them direct.
