I WILL NEVER USE BROWN FLOORING AGAIN!
We originally used Brown Flooring for our rental property. They had a somewhat competitive price compared to others, so I went ahead and used them. The quality of work performed was just ok. Not great throughout, but it did look better than the carpet we had. Additionally, when they finished the job, the transition piece they used kept popping up. I contacted them to
have it re-glued Charlotte admitted that even they had noticed the pieces were flimsy and didn't think they would hold up over time. And since Randy did not come to my area often, she even suggested I re-glue it myself. I found the situation to be somewhat frustrating, but they did have their limited warranty so I went ahead and did it myself due to potential tenant showings we had scheduled.
Recently, in our primary residence, we had a delivery company mess up our wood planks and I had to provide 3 estimates for them to pay for damages. Since I had experience with this company, I called them to get a quote. Charlotte told me that Randy would come between 10 am -12 pm on 12/24 and would call me 30 minutes prior to arriving. After waiting around all morning, I called their office at 1 p.m. I stated my name and mentioned that Randy was supposed to come by between 10-12. Charlotte offered NO apology, and simply said Randy never ended up coming to my area. So naturally, my question was, "Well, why didn't someone at least give me a courtesy call?" Charlotte flippantly said, "Well, I'm sorry - it's Christmas Eve anyway." I said that it still didn't explain why
they wouldn't at least call and she responded, "Well, I guess you should find someone else to do your flooring" and hung up on me. YES, HUNG UP ON ME! So, I wrote her an email telling her how unprofessional they were, especially as a repeat customer, and that I was an Angie's List member and would write a review.
Not surprisingly, about 15 minutes or so later, she had the nerve to leave me a voicemail explaining how it was my fault because "yelled" at her (which is a COMPLETE LIE) and rambling about how "businesses don't want to deal with 'irate
customers'." She also (via voicemail and email) CHANGED her story saying she just forgot tell Randy about the appointment today. She also proceeded to let me know that I should have called to remind them about my appointment (yes, you
read that right) and insinuated that I lack compassion if I don't reschedule with them.
She has had many chances to respond appropriately, but her continued insolence via voicemail and email is what amazes me. Instead of taking full ownership of her actions and offering an appropriate, sincere apology, she felt the need to lie about me "yelling" and suggest it was my fault. SHE lied and originally told me Randy didn't come out in our area, but really the truth was (and I have it in her email and vm) that she simply forgot to tell Randy. AND somehow this is my fault?!
This company is completely unprofessional and lacks integrity. The fact that Charlotte lied and was trying
to blame me is a true definition of her flawed character - and I will not give my business to someone like that. As mentioned in my email to her, GREAT and SUCCESSFUL businesses know the cost of obtaining a new customer is more costly than keeping
a current one. As business owners ourselves, there is NEVER an excuse to treat a customer so poorly.
I will NEVER do business with them again and will ensure I tell neighbors, friends and family to avoid this awful company.

"Thanks for taking the time to post a great review. We weren't aware of the "dead spot" but we are happy to address the issue. Please let us know when we can come out to address your concern. Sometimes, small things happen and unless we know about them we cannot fix them. We want all of our customers to be 100% satisfied."
When they initially came to the house to move the furniture around so that they could level the crappy K ay B Homes quality partical board flooring, there was one area that did not get leveled and consequently when the job was completed the area in front of the master bedroom completely sunk in. My husband and I noticed after the leveling day, before final installation that the floor where a cabinet was sitting did not get leveled prior to installation day. We should have brought it to their attention before they started the installation to avoid the entire problem with the sinking uneven floor. We assumed we would not be wise in telling them how to do the job since they were the experts. Whithin days after the installation the floors were sinking in only in front of the master bedroom where they failed to level. We asked him to come back and fix it and he personally came back Mr. Randy himself. I came home and was still worried about the area because when he was done fixing it, there was an uneven hump or hill in the floor. I was mortified. It looked like they shoved a bunch of stuff under there and some boards were higher than others. The transition piece popped up within days. Some of the glue was still oozing out between the boards. Do floor contractors leave glue oozing out between boards for customers to see how beatiful the floors and how well they were installed? Before our year warranty was up we ask him to come and check on the area and Randy said the flooring underneath the bamboo was the reason they could not get the job done completely even. They did come out promptly and told me to call them if I wanted them to come back out. But I really did not want them to do anything more because I thought they already believed they could not fix it because the builders grade flooring underneath was a hinderence. I chose not to bother them anymore about it. It has been over a year later I have uneven boards with edges that stick up in areas, and the transition piece finally popped up high enough that we had to take it off because it did not allow the door to open and shut. When I sit across the room and look at the area in front of the master bedroom I see the flooring is a raised hump in the doorway. I really thought that when flooring people come into your home to install flooring that they could find a solution to any problem that builders grade crap could present. Randy said this is definately not the case. He said they " are at the mercy of what the builders put down for flooring". So they could not do anything to change the situation.
One of my other concerns is that some of the boards have gaps inbetween the ends of them. The worst gap was 3\16 of an inch. The boards do not all meet up on the ends and so the ends are not sealed. What will happen if water or any other liquid finds its way under those boards. I was not happy about that situation either. I cannot even damp mop my floor. But according to the installer that is what we get for buying the product from the supplier we bought it from. Apparently we get what we pay for.
Mr. Randy Brown is probably 100% correct in that the reason the boards do not meet end to end is because of the store we bought them from, liquidator? I guess so..... Also the reason my floor has uneven boards and a hill in it is completely because of the builders grade floor underneath. Still I think I would not use this particular flooring installer again just because he obviously is not up to the task of dealing with crappy flooring and builders grade subfloor. I will have to consult the experts.
We also asked the installers to make sure that the flooring was installed underneath the edge of the walls because we were not going to install quarter round molding in front of base boards. We currently have gaps up to 1.5 inches of space between the edges of the flooring and the wall board in some areas. Do they make 1.5 inch thick base boards? If so let me know because we are going to need it.
This is probably due to the builder putting skinny wall board up though, probably nothing to do with the installer.
In the future I will walk into an expensive flooring store and hire a very expensive installer and maybe we will be much happier with the floors.
But it is really not Brown Flooring Fault.
"This customers concerns with the humps are in fact due to their house settling and it was brought to the customer's attention multiply times. The only remedy to their sinking problems is to get their home builder to address the fact that their house/foundation is faulty. There is a giant crack above the master bedroom door that reflects the foundation/settling issues. Nothing any flooring contractor can attempt will correct the issue. We did in fact use floor prep on all areas to address any issues the customer might have had with leveling. The customer is correct the sub floor was faulty and our recollection was that they did not want to spend the money to fix it, put down a new sub floor. A second floor cannot have a leveling agent poured onto it especially if it is already faulty because the added weight will not be supported. Floor patch or a new sub floor is the corrective measure available. The gaps for the flooring are a known problem with the manufacturer that they chose to buy the product from. But to be fair all Bamboos can have problems. You have to be steadfast in maintaining proper temps and humidity levels in ones home. Wood expands and contracts with the seasons. Temps should always be kept between 65-78 degrees and a way in which to monitor humidity levels should be maintained in a home that has any hardwoods. Humidity levels should stay between 40%-50% RH. It wood gets too wet or their is too much humidity the wood will expand and you will see cupping and buckling. If wood gets too dry in the winter it will shrink and you will see gaps. Bamboo is often times being harvested too soon these days and is causing lots of issues. Neither an installer nor homeowner can trace the wood from China to the US and make sure that all along the way it was handled, milled and stored properly. The less you pay for the material the chances are higher that somewhere along the way it wasn't handled correctly. Bamboo is not wood like an oak but grows in stalks that have to be compressed into boards. Resins are used to hold the stalks together and the more resins there are the more problems are noted. Some installers have started to refuse to install the product due to liability issues. Moisture content of the wood is always taken but when customers don't monitor temps and humidity problems are often noted. We are sorry that this customer feels like they would not hire us again. You can get a bad installation from a high priced company. On another note no hardwood floor should ever be wet mopped. Mostly this is about consumer education and this customer was not available during the install, instead we worked with her brother in law. In the future we will make sure that contracting parties are available and not rely on others to relay issues/problems."
"Thanks for the taking the time to post a great review. We appreciate your feedback. We hope you enjoy your floors."
"Thanks for taking the time to post a review. We appreciate your feedback. I am not sure why there was a problem with our timing. Summer is always a busy time of year and the recent flooding has made all contractors very busy. We worked long and hard outside in the heat to put tile on your patio. Working late at night to finish your job. This was communicated to this customer several times and he was agreeable and understood. We hope you enjoy your patio!!!"
- Randy and his team were extremely professional, and punctual. I was impressed by their craftsmanship and attention to detail. We were extremely pleased with the finished product. The floors are spectacular, The process took approximately 10 days from the install of the wood flooring, floor sanding, staining, and clear coating. The baseboards were installed shortly after. I will be using Brown Flooring for additional flooring work including carpet and tile as well as crown molding.
"Thanks for the great review. We are glad that we were able to assist you."
"Thanks for the great review. We appreciate you taking the time."
"This customer was found to have water seeping in from the outside of their home. Customer acted as own contractor and hired numerous trades to get remodeling of home done. Home was damaged by water according to customer's own admissions. The contractor who repaired outside walls of home was not diligent and did not proper seal outside elements from entering home. Water was entering home underneath baseboards and oozed underneath Bamboo flooring. We pulled up boards and pointed this out to customer during an inspection performed by adhesive manufacturer and the owner of Brown Flooring Co. They have since, proceeded to claim this on their insurance. Customer also had numerous other issues that prevented us from finishing job correctly. They were under a time crunch to move in and did not allow us to come back into their home to correct or fix areas of concern. Instead they decided that we were just bad contractors. We tried on numerous occasions to make customer happy but were never able to do so. A complaint was made to the Better Business Bureau by customer and BBB found no wrong doing on our part. In fact their complaint brought our company to BBB’s attention and gave us an A+ rating. We are not members of BBB."
"Thanks for taking the time to post a great review and being such a great customer. We are happy you are enjoying your floors."
"Thanks for taking the time to post a great review. We are so happy you are satisfied."
The folks at Brown Flooring were very helpful, especially when we couldn't locate the kind of glue needed for the flooring installation. They showed up on time, started working and kept after it all day long. They finished the project 1 day early and I couldn't be more pleased with the way it all looks. Paying for the service was easily handled online and that was really helpful for my busy schedule.
The workers and Mr. Brown were very polite, communicative and interested in how I wanted the floors to look and be installed.
Excellent, excellent, excellent does not come close to covering it.
"Thanks for the great review. We appreciate it your time."
Our overall impression of Randy and his crew was that they were very professional, prompt and personable. They took the time to answer all of our questions and we were sad to see them pack up to leave. It's almost like we made new friends and didn't just establish a contractor / client working relationship. I would (and actually already have) recommend Brown Flooring Company to anyone who needs flooring work of any type done.
"Thanks so much for taking the time to post such a great review. We appreciate your business!"
