Backyard Pool Specialists

After hearing horror stories about pool installation I was prepared for almost anything but my experience was awesome. My pool was installed promptly and the construction took into consideration all my needs so that my property could be put back in shape (shrubs & sprinkler system) within days of completion. The pool and my backyard are beautiful providing me years of enjoyment.

There were very few issues that needed to be corrected during the installation, but everything went smoothly and any issues were taken care of.

After doing countless hours of research, watching countless hours of YouTube, talking to every person I know with a pool and/or built a pool, I got on Angie's List to narrow down who we would call for bids. I ended up calling 4 companies to give me a bid: Flamingo, Backyard Pool Specialists, Aqua-something, and another (can't remember them because they didn't show up, but they were an A-rated company on here). Narrowed it down to Flamingo and Backyard Pool Specialists. In the end we chose BPS because we had given them a checklist of wants and a budget and they came back with a proposal that was beautiful, incorporated what we asked for and for the amount we stated we had to spend. Flamingo came in about 11k over our budget and didn't include some of the items that BPS did. Everything was pretty much on time and from breaking ground until water in the pool was a total of 5 or 6 weeks (broke ground in April and water was in the 2nd week of May). Unfortunately I was not able to be here for any of the building process as I am a school counselor and that is one of the busiest times of year for me with STAAR and my husband was only able to drop by from time to time but for not having any eyes on the project I feel like it went fairly well. Jordan is extremely easy to work with and if he doesn't know the answer to a question he finds it for you. He was and remains very accessible. My only complaint in this whole process is the sub they used to apply the wet edge (a pebble surface product) I think sent us their "B" team as we have had several little things go wrong and even had to have the pool drained and acid-washed a 2ND time and when BPS sent them back out to fix the little items the level of professionalism was extremely low...they left stuff out the last time they were here and didn't put things back as they were before they came. With all that said I would still use BPS again because they are such nice, easily accessible and honest people. My recommendation is to be on site the days they pour/spray your surface. We have a black pool so maybe that sub wasn't accustomed to spraying black pools...I know BPS doesn't do too many of them. In order to get the deep rich color you have to make sure that there isn't excess plaster material left exposed but instead the pebbles themselves are prominent which they tried to achieve with a 2nd acid wash later down the road, unfortunately requiring us to drain the pool and then fill twice. We are on a well so that was a big concern for me...all that water 2 times in a row and within such a close proximity of time. The sub that did the tile work also didn't grout in some areas and then when they came back to fix it the used a different color grout than they did originally and like I stated earlier they left a bit of a mess and didn't put things back. There was also the instance where the sub came back to drain and do the 2nd acid wash (trying to get that excess plaster removed) and the next day -- after my pool had already gotten to half full again-- I came home and it had been drained again!! Jordan was never able to find out from the sub what happened there. No pool build is going to be perfect because humans are involved. But I do appreciate that Jordan continues to take our calls and return our messages whenever we have any questions/concerns. In choosing a pool builder I would want value, honesty, responsiveness, quality, timeliness. BPS provided all of these things, albeit the few bumps we had in the road. I still highly recommend BPS.

Overall, I am satisfied with our pool and spa that BPS built in my backyard a year ago. The pool and spa are beautiful and our family is happy. So why 2 stars? One word...service. Yes, the pool and spa come with 3 years warranty but good luck getting them to come out to your house to fix anything, especially if you live in Sugar Land. I had an issue with fire bowls that BPS installed, 1 year later the BPS owner finally came out to resolve the problem. Yes, BPS did call the company who made the fire bowls (CSW creations) who were great but why didn't the owner of the pool company come out sooner? Also expect to trouble shoot over the phone with the service team. Yes I really want to spend a bunch of $$$$ on a pool and then have to sit on the phone to help them figure out a resolution so BPS doesn't have to come out. Or better yet, how about having your wife send pictures over to the BPS for them decipher which check flow valve we had so they didn't have to drive out to the house? Each time I called them I felt like I was talking to Comcast. Office staff is rude and service manager doesn't know much about pool equipment. My advice...look elsewhere.

Great !! We are repeat customers, they built our pool at another house which was also a success, we called them again when we moved, awesome team of people to work with !!

It went great. I could not be more pleased. The whole project turned out gorgeous and absolutely makes my house a dream home. They were honest and responsive to all of our needs, questions and concerns. We have used them for all follow up services that we have needed as well ( like lighting and pool service)

Initially the project went well and we were very pleased.  However, within about 30 days a yellowing occurred on certain sections of the pool.  We tried multiple times to reach the sales person.  Unfortunately, those calls were not returned.  Additionally, later in the summer, we noticed a water leak.  We again tried multiple times to reach the sales person only to have the calls and emails go unreturned.
Lastly, care instructions were not provided by the vendor.  We had to call to get basic care instruction.  They were only issued verbally and we never received anything in writing.  No written warranty was provided.

Backyard Pool Specialists put our pool in last May.  They did a fantastic job.   They were constantly communicating with us each step. The crews were great!  We all know that during any construction everything can be a mess.  The crews were very respectful and kept our yard clean.  They were on time and finished just in time for the 1st pool party.  HIGHLY recommend them to everyone!!!  Even after the job was finished, they have been quick to answer any question.  When you contact them ask for Jordan!

I used Backyard for several years for both weekly maintenance and special projects. We had a rough start but they eventually responded and provided a good product. I have recommended them several times but don't know the satisfaction rate.

We have not used the light for a while so we did not notice that. We called them back about the repair job so they came back and repaired it. It was not so nice a repair job, and all the stuff is cracking so we are going to have somebody come out and redo it and fix the light. I wouldn't recommend them, but they were very, very nice. We used them because they had good reviews. The light and the repair failed. They came back because the guy they hired who did the repair on the spa didn't do a good repair so they redid that, but it started leaking again. Technically, it shouldn't have happened. They should have just gone ahead and removed the rock and did it properly. I would assume their price was reasonable, but I am not sure because we did not get estimates. The quality of work was poor but their responsiveness was good.

First couple of times using them it was okay.  This time they did not show up to clean filter after I had already put in chemicals for a problem the pool had.  The filters were suppose to be cleaned within 48 hours after chemicals.  When I called backyard pool they said it wasn't on schedule and person didn't remember talking to me.  Very unprofessional attitude.

They show up. When they're not able to make it, they let me know. The keep the pool clean. It's convenient. They are prompt. They get the job done. Their people are friendly and professional. I think the pricing is very competitive.

Complete overhaul of existing pool, addition of a spa and new decking.  Mark did a terrific job, only negative is timing but this can be expected on a project of this magnitude.  I recommend this company.

We just moved and this is our first time to own a pool.  With that being said, I do not know a lot about what pricing to expect for pool repairs.  However, the associates at Backyard Pool Specialist have always been very attentive to our request.  They showed up when they said they were going to (except once - which is why I gave them a B for punctuality).  They were very helpful in fixing what needed to be fixed as well as showing us how to maintain the pool.

Very poor customer service. I paid initially (September) for weekly service and it was substandard, so I changed to twice a month. Cleaning was substandard and not at the frequency it should have been. Young man stayed on the phone the entire time he "cleaned" the pool. Called numerous times on service, or lack there of, and I was always wrong. I must have been too windy, the water level was too low for him to do the work, he could not come because it was a rain day, he didn't come the next day because he was waiting for next week, the branch at the bottom of the pool he could not get (2 foot branch that was 1 inch in diameter). 
 I guess the customer is right did not cross their minds. I had also asked to have a cover put back on a drain at least 5 times. The cover was never replaced. Did they think I wouldn't pay for it. This is a 400k home. I think I can afford a cover. The last straw was when I was told that the young man came on a day (February)  that I was home all day and he did not. I took pictures of the pool every day for 5 weeks and it was obvious the service was not rendered. I was told it was the nephew of the owner so I guess that made him right. Hope they make money from their relationship because they wont make it from me anymore.
Wow!! Who would have thought???

We are consistently happy with the care our pool and equipment receive and the prompt response to any maintenance issues that need to be addressed with the equipment.

They did a great job. We weren't even in town, we were on vacation. He came out and got the work done without us even there. We never had to call him back because he got it done the first time.
