Hired Steve to do an energy audit on my house to form the baseline report for an energy upgrade remodel I wanted to undertake. He finished the physical audit in about 3 hours and was paid $250 before he left.

To finish the job, he needed to generate a report of the data he collected and gave a general impression that it would be in the next few weeks. The report was needed to secure the financing for the upgrades.  He did not return phone calls asking for the report & promising immediate payment for it, just like the physical audit, until 5 months later.

His response came by email (not phone) and he said he could not complete the report due to his own personal issues that remained unresolved. He also volunteered a refund of the full amount he had been paid and actually put a check in the mail when he said he would.

I was unable to commence the energy upgrade remodel before winter set in and the financing is still not secured. I will have to hire another energy auditor to do what's necessary to generate the baseline report. Over all the project will be delayed almost a year, assuming the financing for the energy upgrades is still available at that time.
