Painting substandard - obviously not experienced professional - poor clean up unprepared to complete entryway above 15 ft - asked us to help find scaffolding, left garbage in driveway for me to dispose of
Travertine floor cleaning and resealing was fine
The job was done after I purchased a coupon for the work on the KEDT-TV auction. Robert, the owner, was very cordial and pleasant during the setup process for the job. He even agreed to extend the deadline for the work by a week. When he came over he tried to sell me an additional job for a mold treatment. Our registers in our 60 year old house did look black inside. But I showed him that the coupon I purchased, a $600 job coupon, included this already. At this time Robert left his helper to remove the vent registers and left to go pick up the mold treatment solution. All duct registers were removed while he was gone. I told them I planned to replace all the registers so not to bother putting them back. I also offered them the additional job of replacing the registers and doing some additional work in the attic. While he was there, before Robert returned, his helper, also named Robert, went up into the attic to see if he could determine if there were any leaks in the duct which runs to the master bedroom. He spent about twenty minutes in the attic but couldn't be sure if there were any leaks. He suggested coming back with some soap solution to see if any leaks could be detected. The videos I have watched on youtube that show proper duct cleaning procedure include many steps that were not done in our case. All that was done here was that the openings where the registers were were scraped inside and a vacuum with about a four or five inch diameter hose was placed up into the vent opening to try to remove some of the dust. This is not an effective technique at all from what I've seen online. No vents were sealed off during the attempt to remove or clean the ductwork so no effective vacuum was formed that could remove the dust in the ductwork. Robert, the owner, told me he had never seen ductwork like we have in our house. There are, inside the vent openings, baffles which are part of the duct structure which help to prevent overly strong air output. Robert said these baffles made it impossible for him to get up inside to clean the ducts. The videos I've seen online show work being done by companies that use agitators to loosen the dust inside the whole length of the ductwork, then, having sealed off all the other vent openings, a very large hose vacuum, that completely covers the vent opening, is able then to effectively clean out the dust in the ductwork. Air duct cleaning companies that do the work properly work to clean both the intake system and the ductwork. What Quality Carpet Care actually did, is remove the registers, clean around the immediate inside area where the registers were located, saying that the baffles prevented them from going any farther in to clean, and then sprayed several very strong odor chemicals up inside the ductwork. I never saw them use any kind of agitator to loosen any dust inside the ductwork. The vacuuming was probably only effective at the very ends of the ductwork where the air outlets are located. I am certain that our ducts are still very dirty. True, it was a coupon they donated to Channel 16 auction, but I paid pretty well for this $600 coupon and I don't feel that I've accomplished much, except that the registers were removed, and some chemicals were sprayed up into the ducts from the vent openings, and some scraping cleaning and vacuuming was done just in that area where the registers were located. They are very nice gentlemen, but I don't think they cleaned our vents properly at all. I recommend to anyone, before you hire this kind of work done from any company, familiarize yourself with what is involved in proper air duct cleaning. Be prepared to spend enough money to have it done well. I cannot recommend this company for air duct cleaning. One more thing. They left a lamp on up in our attic and the sealing door off so that the attic is open to the hallway. I called the owner on several occasions to come and get his lamp and replace that ceiling door because I cannot get up there. I explained when I left my message that I am concerned about that lamp burning in the attic as the wiring up there is very old and I am not sure it's safe. I have called Robert and left a message for him to please contact me about this several times in the last several days and still have received no call back. I admit I'm no expert in this but what they did was nothing like what I've seen shown on youtube from companies showing proper vent cleaning procedure. These companies cut into metal to obtain access where needed. They don't just say there's something in the way and so we can't do it right. Not at all. They use an agitator to loosen the dust and run it all through the system. Nothing like this was done for us. The vacuum the professionals use has a hose diameter sufficient to virtually cover the vent opening. When the pros do the vacuuming they seal other vent openings. They also use the agitator to loosen dust while they're vacuuming it. Nothing like this was done for us. As an Angieslist member, I take doing reviews for local working people very seriously. I have left some very high praise for other workers in the past and I'm sure it has helped their business. Believe me, I hate having to leave a negative review for any local company but after so much that should have been done wasn't done, and then they left that lamp on up in our attic and the ceiling door open to the attic where cold air comes in from a side vent in the house, and then I tried to call him and couldn't get anything but a recording so I left him several messages saying I'm worried about that 60 year old wiring up there and with no call back from Robert for days now, I feel this review is completely justified. They did do some work and they're nice fellows but I can't recommend them for this type of work.
After having to go back and re-clean the bedroom ducts months later , we found that the ducts were not properly connected to the ceiling allowing moist attic air to condense on the cool ducts. This should have been found by the inspectors when they had the ducts down in the first place and repaired. I wound up sealing the openings and all is well.
