We had a third party representative solicit bids for our property (we live out of state). It was difficult getting anyone to come out and provide an estimate. We finally received two bids that were comparable and in line with the average square footage price we researched. The owner himself came out and estimated the project and inspected the final result. Our representative questions some items which were dismissed as "standard practice". Upon arrival, I immediately noticed several flaws in the work. Instead of the "Corbels" we requested, they installed the type of shelf brackets you would use in your closet or garage. The bullnose edging is not even. The rounded corners are not round but more oblong and unevenly shaped. The cutouts for the electrical outlets and switches are oversized because they measured wrong. The backsplash on the kitchen window side is about 1/8" higher than the granite window sill...again a bad measurement, so they ground off the sharp edge with a grinder and damaged my newly painted walls. No caulking was installed at the top of the backsplash to prevent drips from running behind it. However, caulking residue was left on the walls, counters and cabinets. The counters are not securely glued to the counter tops either. I cannot think of a way they could have possibly done a worse job. I intend to visit the owner next week to negotiaite a resolution. I will update this post then.
