I really wish I could give Army of One a great review. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. I hired Army of One to install sod in my front yard. They arrived on time and the employees were courteous and hard working. The cost of the job was over the original estimate by about $500-750. I grumbled over this but in the end I expected excellent results so I accepted it. There was also some confusion that led to the workers scalping my island by the street when it was supposed to be left alone. That was a little frustrating but no big deal, it eventually grew back. They also put sod around my gates which left me unable to open the gates. I pointed this out to the owner and he fixed it by simply removing the sod which left bare spots. Not exactly what I had hoped for since I was quoted for sod around the gates but I expected that it would eventually fill and I still expected excellent results. The problem is that I didn’t get excellent results. Several weeks after install my lawn has many dead areas. Even worse I have Bermuda grass growing in between the sod. This was a big reason I has installed the new sod…to make the lawn all one grass type. I think the big problem is with the way Army of One installs sod. Instead of taking up the old grass and putting down dirt they cut the existing lawn very short and spray it with grass killer. Then they put the new sod on top. It’s much harder for the sod to become established this way and it requires you to dump an enormous amount of water on it. For comparison someone in my neighborhood had sod installed on dirt at the same time and it already looks amazing. Keep in mind you pay a premium price for this service. There is no discount even though it is installed the cheapest way possible. Add your water bill to the equation and this service becomes outrageously expensive. I reached out to the owner to give him a chance to address my concerns. Instead, he blamed me for not watering enough despite my eye-popping water bill. Bottom-line, there’s a problem with the way these guys install sod and they don’t stand behind their work. I would steer clear of them.

"First of all out of 35 reviews this is my first other than A rating. Almost all of his information that was stated is untrue. Coming from a veteran like himself that’s very unprofessional on his part. All quotes that were given were in stone. The price never changed. There was also a discount given on his last half pallet. The job was inspected by himself and signed off on. There are pictures of his yard on my profile that shows the grass being green when we left. He was also watering his grass with a soaker hose which is completely wrong. Soaker hoses are for plants and flowers in flower beds not yards. Also he never stated that he wanted to lay dirt before the sod was laid. That would have been an extra cost of course. He was trying to pinch pennies from the beginning. Lastly he stated to me that his island by the road that didn’t take because of being watered by a soaker hose never took the first time either. Therefore he had this same issue of not maintaining his yard correctly before. Army of One takes pride in everything that we do. We give 110 percent on every job that we complete. Our results speak for themselves."

I am so happy that I found Matt at Army of One. He is professional and does a great job on my bi-weekly lawn care. I recently hired him to do a major clean up of the beds, mulching and trimming shrubs, etc, which is the price reflected in this review. It was a big job. He sent a few guys over and they spent 2 whole days doing the work and did a great job. The yard looks wonderful. Thanks, Matt and team!

I just finished replacing my fence with a metal pole cedar picket fence using Army of One as the contractor. Matt Schmidt the owner was very professional and responsive. his crew was well seasoned and knowledgeable and very dedicated to doing a professional job. I cannot rate this company any higher if I could I would. It can be seen from Yorktown Blvd one block east of Staples St.

Matt came over the same day I called to give me an estimate. He measured the length of the fence to be replaced, gave me options on the diffent types of lumber, agreed to remove the old fence and haul it off. Everything was included in the estimate. I liked the fact that his estimate was cheaper than other estimates and he didn't hike up his prices after Hurricane Harvey. He explained everthing he would need to do and did it. I liked the fact that he uses screws instead of nails. This makes the fence much sturdier. He used concrete on each fence post. He used three 2X4s between each fence post to secure, by screws, each individual fence picket. Most fences like my old fence have only two 2x4s. By having a 2x4 on the top, bottom and middle this made the fence sturdier and the pickets will probably not bow...especially since they are screwed and not nailed. Matt and his helper, as agreed upon, completed everything in 2 days. This included removing the old fence and hauling it away. He was also able to trim a tree limb for me that was also damaged during the hurricane. I would highly recommend Army of One to anybody interested in getting your fenceing project done on time and getting a high quality job for a reasonalble price. Thanks Matt and Army of One!!! 5 Stars!!! 2 of my neighbors also had Army of One replace their fencing damaged during the hurricane and were very happy with the work that was done.

I could not have been more pleased from the moment I called Army of One and spoke with Matt to the end of installation of my new sod. The crew was courteous, knowledgeable and had great attention to detail. They worked late into the evening to finish the job. We mow our lawn on a 2 week routine. Matt consistently does an outstanding job. I am sure my neighbors and passers-by admire my sharp-looking, neatly mowed, trimmed and clean-swept lawn as they go by my property. To automatically get a sharp, clean and neatly trimmed lawn, call on Matt. He also does wood fence repair work. He recently replaced two broken fence posts and wood gate and did an excellent job. Highly recommend his good workmanship, and he is always professional and courteous.

Matt and his crew arrived on time and got right to work. They removed the dead grass, prepped the soil and laid the new grass. They worked non-stop until the job was done and did a great job cleaning up. He also helped me set our irrigation system for proper watering time. Also, while Matt was working, a neighbor stopped and asked for help tilling her garden, and when he was able, Matt went and did that for her. Matt is a genuine good, honest guy and I have already recommended him to a few people. I will definitely use Matt when we start our backyard project.

I have a rental house in TX (I live in FL) that needed the yard completely redone after previous tenants destroyed it, as well as various other jobs described above that went along with the yard. Matt gave me a quote months ago, and the timing for the job dragged out as the tenant extended multiple times past what we thought was going to be the original move out date. When the time came, Matt updated his quote and I gave him the go. Always sends me before and after pics and from what I can see very nice work done. Is able to get out there for any job I need within a day or two. Trustworthy and dependable, and a pleasure to deal with.

We hired Matt to replace our old back and side fence. My husband and I couldn't be more happier with the results. Matt was very professional and polite. The work took only 2 days, like he told us it would. The craftsmanship was excellent. The fence looks great. It was built with a sacrificial board at the bottom and 3 rails. Matt takes ownership of his jobs. He clearly understands that a good relationship with his client is the formula to making sure his business is successful. The team is capable of completing a variety of home/yard improvement projects and when hired to do the job, they get the job done! We recently purchased a coastal property that although was well kept, the exterior grounds were overdue for grooming and regular maintenance. Like many coastal home owners, the living space outside of our home is the part we enjoy the most, so we only wanted to hire someone we could trust to do a good job in maintaining it. Matt not only takes pride in the work but we really believe he treats our home as if its his own. That kind of commitment is hard to find these days. After interviewing several contractors (some recommended by my neighbors and realtor) and trying out "2 of the best", we were feeling like it might be hopeless to find someone for this very important job. We didn't want to settle for substandard maintenance. After all, other than our family, this home is one of our most precious possession…it deserves more.
