Being dismissed for my inquiry about the stone repairs, I choose not to follow up with a request for a site visit for all work I wanted done. (I spent ~$1,800 with a competitor since this company did not take interest in earning my business.)
"Hello [removed member name]- I am sorry for your experience with Grow It. We strive for excellence and have achieved it for 17 yrs. Repairing retaining walls or mortared walls are projects we do not do. We do not know how the wall was built originally, (If the wall was built correctly or not) If the footing was not done correctly the wall will just crack again, so we tend not to take on repair projects to stone walls. We would have been more than happy to build a new stone wall. Please feel to contact my self with any questions Thanks David Flesher- Owner 214-675-2468 cell"
After all was said and done, the work was passable but not great. Though it was miles better than the problem we were correcting, the project was not all that it was presented to be. The sand set patio will involve a lot more continual maintenance than was presented. The entire process was beset by lack of communication, miscommunication, and arrogance on the part of Grow It.
Grow it sold us the job through what turned out to be an independent contractor/salesman. At the end of the project, Contractor/salesman and Grow It ended up in litigation against one another. In short, the owner ended up backpedaling on everything that was presented to us about the project-- he kept using the salesman as an excuse and continually minimized our objections to the work. Here is a litany of the issues:
-Several weeks delay in start and completion (partly due to weather)
-Presentation by owner of the wrong invoice for the job with several overcharges. I had to end up sending a copy of the signed contract to him. He had no idea what the salesman had set up.
-Attempting to charge a materials 'change order'- They had brought out the wrong materials. Luckily we happened to be there at the time or the backyard would have been covered in pastel pink stones.
-Failure to complete a part of the agreed bargain- footers for a pergola.- I found this out by going out after the job was completed and said "hey , where are the footers?' , answer-Oh we didn't do them
-Salesperson made a detailed outline of problems with the patio-tippy stones.small stones, lack of sealant, too much space between stones.
In the end, owner responded basically "That's what you get when you install a sand set patio', and basically admitted that it was not their specialty. He offered to do a permanent grout set at the end for another 3 grand-wow thanks, after I'm in for 15k already.
To top it all off, he saunters into the back yard on his own, with his dog in tow. I guess he thought his dog defecating in my yard would be a charming touch!
"The salesperson who sold this job is no longer affiliated with Grow It Land Designs and we are very sorry for any customers who were affected by this situation . We are committed to providing quality work and excellent service to every customer and a one year warranty was provided to the Wise family for their project. [member name removed], please feel welcome to reach out to us if you are currently having any problems."
I will use Grow It every time I need landscaping, and I will continue to buy all of my plants there.
"Thank you for your kind words [removed member name]. The families of our 40 employees thank you for supporting us, too!"
"Most of our business comes from word of mouth and we appreciate you taking the time to leave a review!"
"From the families of our 40 employees, thank you for your business! We appreciate your kind review."
"We've been back to complete several projects for the (member name) family. Thank you for your continued support!"
We encountered two correctable difficulties. The design called for a curved wall; the workers installed a straight wall. When we notified Don, the work was immediately redone to our satisfaction. The second difficulty was in the existing plants. Apparently the workers were unaware of our desire to keep all the existing plants. So we lost three large bushes. However, again, Don had them replaced quickly. We have not done the second part of the work yet - the actual landscaping - as the weather has been so hot that it would be difficult to have satisfactory installation without a tremendous amount of watering to keep the new plants alive.
Don suggested this part of the project be done in early fall to have the best opportunity for the plants to establish themselves well.We have been satisfied with the work done. And we look forward to better weather so the project can be completed, believing we will be happy with that work as well.
