DJ Construction & Remodeling

We hired DJ Construction for a bathroom remodel. The contract stated that it would take 18 to 26 working days to complete the project. I was very happy with the demo process. His worker came every day on time, worked all day, and cleaned up before he left. DJ went with me to pick out tile and told me where to go to pick out granite and cabinets. He used a licensed plumber to do the required plumbing. Problems began with the installation of the tile. DJ charged me for an upgrade on tile installation to a staggered pattern (brickwork). Since the tile was the same for the walls and floor, I requested a herringbone pattern for the floor to set it apart from the rest of the bathroom tile. He said that the brickwork pattern would normally take a day for installation, but the herringbone pattern would take six days. However, he never said he couldn't do it - only that it would take longer. About halfway through the floor installation, I pointed out a couple of areas where the tiles didn't line up, leaving sharp edges that were not only noticeable but would catch your toe and cause injury. They told me it was because they didn't level (or float) the floor. They replaced several tiles in one area, but it did not correct the problem. I told DJ that those corners were not just sharp on the toes but would likely break from people walking on them. He advised that it was due to the pattern because the tiles are not all uniform. We talked about it at length, and he would tell me that it was because of the design, and then he would say it was because they didn't float the floor. His final answer was, "this is as good as it gets" because of the pattern. However, when taking a closer look at the shower that was installed from the pattern HE picked, it had the same, very visible issues as the floor. So, I told him I didn't think it was the pattern because the shower has the same problems, but it wouldn't cut anyone's toes because no one would be walking on the wall. Then they said it was the tile - which he helped me pick out and never said they didn't know how to install it properly. I finally asked if he would be happy if this were his floor, and he admitted he would not. He acknowledged that it was poorly installed but that he would not fix it because that was the best he could do. DJ said he would send his handyman back to attempt to fix the floor tiling with grout, but after that, "by law," he could send a final bill, and I would have to deduct the cost to fix the problems. He advised that I should call a couple of other tile installers to get bids. However, after speaking with three contractors, they've all stated there is no 'fix' for the improper tile installation. These tile installers advised that DJ should complete his contract by hiring a tile installer rather than a handyman because DJ has better access to the tradesmen who can correctly install the tile. I relayed all this information to DJ and didn't get a response. Finally, I sent him a letter with a deadline for resolution. He responded by asking when we could meet to discuss my concerns again. I gave him a date and time, asking him to respond with his confirmation. I did not receive a response, nor did he show up. While he did 'complete' his installations within the 26 days, it appears that the poor workmanship throughout the bathroom may be a result of cutting corners to make his deadline since he seemed to be so concerned that the pattern would take six times longer than his original plan. Now I am left with an unfinished bathroom with sharp and dangerous installation issues and a contractor who won't complete his contract or respond to my requests.

Denis was very professional and detail oriented. We hired them to remodel our dated kitchen. There were challenges as we own a manufactured home. He was able to help us with our plan while at the same time refining and improving on our ideas. His word was "functional". The job was competed on time and within the allotted budget with no surprises or additional charges. His crew was prompt and professional and cleaned up every day. Everything Denis said they would do was done and then some. We are beyond pleased with the outcome. He helped guide us on the selection of flooring and granite which could have been overwhelming.

From start to finish, we enjoyed working with DJ and his talented crews.

I was conducting a home remodel on a 20+ yr old home from out of state, which can be very nerve-wracking. I had a very large project, where we redid the entire kitchen, all three bathrooms, and the entire flooring in the home. I vetted about four or five different contractors before deciding on DJ construction. He gave me a professional written up bid unlike some of the other contractors that were referred by my management company. I just want to say I'm so glad that I did. DJ is a contractor who stands by his work, very honest & doesn't cut any corners. He has an eye for detail and is very passionate about the work he turns over. Throughout the whole process we were in full communication, he always answered and returned my calls. While he wasn't the cheapest of all the bids I received, he was very reasonable in pricing and you get quality work for what you pay for. He did a fantastic job turning around my rental property I was really impressed, and happy with his services. Highly recommend!

DJ and his crew were awesome! Kitchen looks fantastic and they made my vision come to life. They treat their property like it’s their property so definitely would hire again.

Last year, DJ completely remodeled our kitchen to top notch HGTV quality. He did such a great job that we moved up the timetable and hired him to do the same for our master bathroom & fireplace. This time, we basically turned him loose to do what he does best. With his help, we picked out the granite, cabinets & tile. We left the rest to him. Along with some additional minor renovations, DJ has transformed our 37 year old house to a modern, like new, warm and inviting home that we are now proud to entertain in. I am convinced that there is no better choice than to hire DJ for your project.

We are stationed in Hawaii and own our retirement home in Schertz TX. I am very sceptical of contractors and was reluctant to hire one from Hawaii to remodel our kitchen in Texas. After checking on Angie's list for "A" rated contractors I called the top five. Although the other contractors I spoke with were professional and I decided on hiring DJ construction because he always answered my phone calls, knew exactly what we wanted and he was and is very polite to my family members he is dealing with in Texas. Most importantly Denis will be on the job site supervising the work every day. Other contractors could not say that to me! We are in the being stages of the remodel so I will update halfway through and when completed.

There are not enough words to describe the outstanding and awesome work DJ and his team did in updating our 1975 bathroom. Ceiling, shower, toilet, cabinets, etc were gutted out. There was a small recess wall in master bedroom which he was able to extend the shower. The old shower was a headache. When the new shower drain was to be installed it was discovered that the old drain was cemented to the pvc drain pipe. It took a day and a half to remove the concrete. DJ asked if we wanted the shower pipes moved to the opposite end of the shower wall which we agreed. New plumbing material was replaced. All of the old shower tile was removed and it was discovered there was rotting wood. He also told us there was water damage to the sheet rock in our master closet since the shower was next to closet wall. All rotten wood, and damaged area were taken care of. The bathroom has 7 ft ceiling. DJ was hoping to raise the ceiling but the arrangement of 3 vents was difficult to remedy. The shower ceiling was raise though. I was so over whelmed with the selection of shower tiles, Mrs.Joseph(DJ's wife) told me to go with what caught my eye and I selected several tiles in the same color family and narrowed it down to the color scheme that was closet to granite countertop. DJ selected floor and shower floor tile. He helped me in the selection of cabinets. I wanted items that required the least amount of work to clean up. I selected brush nickel for shower head, hand held shower wane and and faucets. He added updated heat and air vents. Recess lighting was added to the shower which added a softness to the area. Shower niche, bench were added and back tile in the niched and bottom side of bench has a glass circle pattern which provides contrast to the shower tile wall. Shower glass sliding doors were installed. He choose a mirror that went perfectly with the the light fixtures. Walls, ceilings were sheet rocked and the wall paint tied everything together. In the master bedroom I needed more closet space. A vanity area was converted into a linen closet. Mirror, marble counter and drawer were taken out. Three sturdy shelves were made, installed, painted and a door added. Recess lighting was added. At the end of each day clean up was done vacuuming, picking up trash etc. Cliff, Micah, and Lestor did a wonderful job from tiling, sheet rocking, carpentry work, painting and so much more. DJ is courteous, professional and always on time. HE DOES NOT WORK ON OTHER CONTRACTS UNTIL THE CONTRACT HE HAS WITH YOU IS COMPLETE AND HE DOES NOT SUBCONTRACT. He works with his crew and if he has to leave he will let you know. He returns to check on his teams work. If he does not like the work performed it will be corrected to his satisfaction. DJ is honorable, a perfectionist and his work ethics represents the man that he is. I wished I had known about him 1st when work was done on my kitchen. My next project is to hire him to redo my kitchen.

In short, hire DJ Construction and Remodeling. It will be one of the best decisions you ever make. After meeting DJ, we were convinced he should completely remodel our 36-year-old eat-in kitchen. He is as much an artist as he is a designer/remodeler. He is all about functionality and use of space. He works on one project at a time and is always on site. We found him to be dependable, punctual, innovative, tidy, meticulous, and attentive to the smallest detail. We never imagined our little kitchen could look as though it was featured on HGTV! Hire DJ, trust his knowledge, and wait for the final product – PERFECTION!

We used DJ to remodel our kitchen, new flooring, new paint and were extremely pleased. We had him remodel the master bathroom and it turned out so beautiful!! As I posted before, DJ and his team are exceptional remodel artist with great morals and even better work ethics. Our bathroom was so gross and outdated, they tore out everything and replaced vanity, new granite countertops, new sink and faucet, tile flooring, new baseboards, fresh paint on walls and doors, accessories (mirror, shelves, cabinets, lighting), new porcelain bathtub, shower tile to ceiling, trim around bathroom tile, shower nook, new tub faucet, shower head, new toilet. We are so pleased with the work that we are going to have him remodel our guest bathroom very soon!

Excellent! DJ and his crew are amazing. DJ is a perfectionist and it shows in his work. DJ and his crew showed up on time everyday and worked everyday until the work was done. He personally went with us to pick out tile, flooring, granite for remodel. He went above and beyond what anybody could expect of a contractor. He gave us input when we were unsure of what to do and was always present when anything was being delivered or installed. He oversaw every step of the job and made sure every detail was perfect. Any concerns we had were addressed on the spot and made sure we were happy with what was being done every day. I will be calling him again when we get our second bathroom remodeled, I wouldn't trust anybody else.

I can't even begin to describe the incredible job that was performed by DJ and his crew, so I will list them out: 1. Him and his crew ARRIVED ON TIME, EVERY SINGLE DAY. He told us they would begin work every day at 8:30 a.m. and was true to word every day. Never missed a beat, in fact, sometimes they were a little early. 2. They WORKED FULL DAYS and sometimes OVERTIME to complete everything. They stayed a little late to complete daily tasks and even worked part of a Saturday. 3. They completed the work in a VERY TIMELY MANNER. The remodel of kitchen, painting of kitchen, dining area, and laundry room, and replacement of flooring in entryway, living room, dining room and kitchen took exactly 3 weeks and 1 day. 4. DJ DOESN NOT "OUTSOURCE" the job. He and his crew completed everything from start to finish. 5. He works ONE JOB AT A TIME, so we got the full attention and care from start-to-finish. 6. DJ takes you to PICK OUT EVERYTHING. He spent hours talking with us, listening to what we wanted and even took us to cabinet, tile, flooring, granite stores so that we could pick out what we wanted. Even though he took the time to do this, he never charged extra for this. 7. The QUOTE HE GAVE US for the job WAS THE EXACT PRICE WE PAID. There were no extra charges, no problems. He is true to his word! 8. The QUALITY OF THE WORK WAS EXCEPTIONAL!!! I cannot stress this enough, IMPECCABLE WORK. We actually picked him because others on Angie's List praised his craftsmanship and attention to detail. Well, let me tell you, this guy is a straight up artist! He would not quit until everything was perfect. He added so many extras that help make our kitchen look like a million dollars (all included in quote, so nothing extra!). 9. DJ can do WHATEVER STYLE YOU LIKE. You want modern, he can do it, you want traditional, he is your man. DJ understands every style and recommends little touches to make it your own. I have chemical-induced asthma, and DJ used NO-VOC paint on everything for me! 10. DJ and his team are GOOD MEN with great MORALS. They care about your job, and will never "pull one over on you" or scam you. Completely trustworthy, sincere, and extremely friendly. THE WORK WE HAD DONE: tore out our whole kitchen, replaced cabinets with solid wood cabinets to ceiling with trim, under cabinet lighting, high-end granite countertops, travertine backsplash to ceiling with trim, sealant on travertine, created a bar off our sink area, new sink, garbage disposal, ceiling, wall, doors, and baseboard paint, removed Waynes Coat in part of kitchen, new sheet rock in places, installed a hood vent from scratch (we never had one before), new kitchen lighting, replaced all outlets and switches with new dimmable and more modern switches, new lighting in dining area, paint in dining area, new engineered hardwood floors in entryway, living room, dining room, and kitchen with trim to baseboards. At the end they put everything back, mopped floors, wiped everything down by hand!! DJ was the perfect contractor and we are extremely pleased with the work. We are definitely using him again in the future!

Beautiful work! DJ Construction and Remodeling made our dream Master Bath come true! Where do I start? After researching two different websites on reputable bath remodelers, we found DJ Construction and Remodeling of Converse, Texas. The company looked good on paper and had great reviews. So we set up an appointment, met with Mr. Denis “DJ” Joseph and agreed to start the work on a set date. All we wanted was to eliminate an unused bathtub in the master bathroom and just stretch the shower to make it roomier. By the end of the project, what a surprise! We had gone from the typical “beig-ey” bathroom in a cookie-cutter home with standard “everything” to a one-of-a-kind, luxurious master bathroom. We are so in love with the final result and so in awe for DJ’s artistry that there are not enough words for it. Once we told him what we had in mind, ideas just materialized and the bathroom took shape, much like a stone under the hands of a sculptor, from the shaping of the shower area to the whole bathroom. He went beyond what you expect from a remodeler. Our bathroom is so well designed; it is the perfect extension of our master bedroom, in décor and style. Such an artist! Pictures posted do not give it justice. Every time we are in the shower, we risk being late for work! Mr. DJ’s craftsmanship, attention to detail and care in laying out every piece of the remodel are simply incredible. The job is done on schedule, but it is considered complete only after the last element is put in, to make sure it all looks magnificent. There is no rushing or skimping, on time or material! He is very careful, very methodical and surrounds himself with top of the line crew, electricians and plumbers. He does not just supervise and directs the work; Denis Joseph personally works alongside his crew and makes sure everything goes according to plan. Denis and crew are trustworthy, very professional, punctual and careful of the home; the job site is always left clean at the end of the work day. During our project there were no issues or delays that kept the work from getting completed; everything went on as planned and scheduled. DJ Construction and Remodeling uses quality material: cabinetry, countertop, tiles, shower glass, vanity lights, faucets and sinks. Denis will take you to local showrooms and tile shops to select material. Several options are available, and it is only a matter of personal choice. In all this selection process, DJ’s expertise, guidance and practicable advice are invaluable and always present. When the project is complete, you can tell that DJ and his crew are as proud of the end results as the owners who commissioned the remodel. We are so pleased with him and his crew that we are going to join the group of “repeat customers” and have other projects done by them. Thank You Denis!

DJ designed and installed built-in cabinets and bench seating in my dining room. The result is beautiful, and a wonderful use of what was previously unused space. The unit looks like it was part of the houses's original design. We couldn't be happier with the end result!

DJ and his team are miracle workers! We did a lot of research before settling on DJ Construction and Remodeling. It finally came down to praise from previous customers, seeing work that he had accomplished and how Denis presented himself in the bidding process. From the “artist concept” drawings, he brought us along with the bid, to the final dab of paint DJ and his team were always professional. As can be seen from the photo our kitchen was transformed into a thing of beauty. DJ did not just do what we asked him to do, he had terrific ideas to compliment ours and thought of enhancements that we did not (arched doorway for example). No detail was overlooked. I highly recommend his company. Dennis was very professional and helpful. He worked very well with us to ensure our bathroom, although very small, had a beautiful, finished look. Dennis was at the house everyday early and worked to get the project finished on schedule. I will recommend him to friends and will seek his services for future jobs.

DJ was great to work with. Walked us through the process and offered support from start to finish. Recommended quality local vendors to use for granite, time, etc. Completed job in time frame quoted. Always present on site working with crew when we dropped by to check on progress. Will definitely use him again.

Finding and hiring DJ Construction and Remodeling was the best decision my wife and I ever made. Dennis and his crew were the most considerate and thoughtful people we ever met. From start to finish, they treated our house as if it was their own. Everyday, aside from not having a kitchen to use, we would have never known they were in our house. They would arrive after we departed to work and the house was always cleaned up when we got home. All the building materials were out of the way and house was vacuumed. Everyday, Dennis would give me a complete description of what was accomplished and the plan for the next day. We will forever be greatfull to Dennis and his crew for our new kitchen and plan to have all of them return for our next project and dinner. They thought of everything...

Very timely. Told me it would take 2 weeks to do kitchen and it took just that. Did an excellent job and I felt very safe leaving them at my house while I worked. Did a great job cleaning up after themselves as well. Would recommend them to everyone. His wife also works with the company and has great interior decorating ideas. This company also came and picked me up and took me to pick out what I wanted for my home. I felt like they gave me a personal touch. They were very patient. He told me once they started my job, they will not take on another job before mine was done. Told me I had his undivided attention. This was a GREAT company. I am just totally satisfied!

It was a great experience. They answered my questions. My husband and I were very pleased with the job. They did what we asked of them. I would recommend them to anybody. They are very maticulous. I would definitely use them again.

It was pleasant and fast. From demolition to completion 2 days short of our contractors 2 week time frame. They were punctual and professional. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph are always on site we felt totally at ease. My husband and I did not miss one day of work with this remodel. They also painted the kitchen, upgraded the electrical outlets and even put in newer air conditioning vents to complete the look. Such attention to detail we have never experienced. Once the contract was signed the fun began. We saw a computer generated image of our new kitchen design. Our contractor accompanied us to the showroom, this allowed us to see options we had never imagined. They were very knowledgeable of design and had many suggestions of where to look for special one of a kind accents. In the end the compter generated image was a reality. TheTuscan kitchen of our my dreams is now ours.
