The Cal-Tex Technician came to assess problem with our dryer in mid December 2013.  We were informed a part was needed and we were charged $75 for the service call.  At the end of January 2014 a technician returned to complete the repair.  (they were ready to do the repair 2-3 weeks later but we had to delay because of our work schedules) At the time of the second visit we were informed the part was not required and we were charged $60 for the labor.  We were told the constant clicking sound we heard was a loose coin in the drum.  No explanation as to why that was not noted the first time.  The sound returned again in mid March.  We called to complain that the problem had returned.  We were told since we were beyond 30 days, there would be another trip charge of $75 and additional charges depending on the repair.  We thought that was unreasonable.  Cal-Tex would not budge from that position.  We called another company and we won't be using Cal-Tex again.

They are outstanding and the technician who took care of us is named Travis. They do warranty work for Lowes but they also are independent. They are professional, set the appointment, came out and showed up. Travis was prepared, ready to go and was very considerate while he was working in my home. My father was very ill at our home at that time so Travis was very helpful and kind. Lowes gives several options as to what company I can use for warranty appliance work so I did some research and decided to use Cal-Tex.

Overall, I was satisfied with almost all aspects of the service call, other than waiting all morning for a call that ended up being in the afternoon.  Also, I thought the combined cost of the labor and service call was slightly excessive. However, I don't have that many service calls to make an accurate determination of combination of labor and service call. But, I appreciated the politeness and professionalism of Fernando's visit and would probably call him again. My obvious only disappointment was in the service call charge.  I did not initially locate Cal-Tex in Angie's List and no mention was ever made of a coupon for the service call...something that would have completely reversed my rating on price. But, I have to take some responsibility for that.  I pay for the subscription to Angie's list, and I should have checked the company's offer online prior to calling. I will do so if/when I call Cal-Tex next time.

Cal-Tex came out twice, first to diagnose the problem, second to install a new door latch. That did not fix the problem, but the repairman spotted an unusual problem - when he ran diagnotics on the washer, he was unable to clear an error code, which continued to indicate that the door latch wasn't closed. He suggested that I call the manufacturer's service line and establish a record of problems (in other words, get an account). By doing so, the manufacturer was convinced that the electronic control board was the problem and the correct part was sent, installed and the problem is now fixed. They were very professional, called both times about an hour before they arrived, and did a REAL diagnosis rather than just ordering more parts.

My refrigerator went out while I was away and the initial service company that I called determined that the condenser was out. Because of the age of the refrigerator, they weren't sure they could get it repaired and suggested purchasing a new one. The cost of a new one was $4100 (Sub-Zero). I checked the Sub-Zero website where Cal-Tex as identified as a certified repair service. I contacted Cal-Tex and Kathy immediately returned my call. She had a repairman (Rod) at my house within 30 minutes. He promptly located a new condenser and returned that afternoon to repair the refrigerator. He was extremely courteous and did a great job. Kathy stayed in touch and was terrific. I was incredibly pleased they were able to come the same day, make the repairs promptly and the price was certainly far better than a new refrigerator. I'd call them again in a heartbeat.
