Our conventional septic system was installed in 1978. It was poorly designed, constructed with inferior piping, and contained two 90-degree turns near the end of the run. It had a single cleanout, located at the opposite side of the house almost 120 feet from the tank. This system was functionally obsolete the day it was installed. Had we known of the peculiarities of this septic system when we were contemplating the purchase of this home 24 years ago, we would have negotiated a lower price for the house. Anyway, with our septic system being a major source of irritation over the years, we decided to replace it with a new system. Searching for a reputable company that does this type of work in the Houston area was not an easy task. We were surprised that there was so little information available about these companies. After much research, we met with or spoke with the representatives of three companies. One company, Meiners Construction, actually sent 2 people to our house. Billy and Bryan were technically proficient enough to answer numerous questions about performing what would be a somewhat difficult installation. There were many potential problems to be addressed involving design, geology, as well as other issues. Billy and Bryan offered accurate answers and solutions. None of our questions went unanswered. We selected Meiners Construction. The fact that Billy and Bryan would be handling our project made this a rather easy decision. The fact that Meiners bid was the highest of the three companies was not a factor. It has been our experience that you get what you pay for. Add to that the fact that we were planning a significant upgrade as opposed to a low end bare bones system. We wanted more capacity than we would ever need. We also wanted the flexibility to make an addition to our house or to add a guest house at some point in the future without needing to add any capacity to the septic system. The installation went extremely well. Billy, Bryan, and ProFlo maneuvered the tanks into place between two mature oak trees with surgical precision. Boring under the driveway did not go as well, as Meiners? boring tool malfunctioned and went belly up. That meant digging under the driveway the old fashioned way. This back breaking job was accomplished with much effort. After that, the rest was easy. This is the type of job where many things can go wrong. We are talking about serious collateral damage. Like smashed or damaged trees, broken driveways, etc. Fortunately for us, Meiners Construction is a company whose people are experienced and professional enough to avoid the many common problems encountered during the installation of a septic system. Billy and Bryan were extremely careful, treated our real estate with respect, and left our house and land undamaged. We could not have asked for more. One more thing, the old system was left operational until the last moment. Once the new system was in place, the switch was made with very little inconvenience to us. There was never any need to leave the house.
