"Thanks for the good review [Member Name Removed]!"
"Thank you for taking the time to review us on angies list, and for your fairness in evaluating us on quality and professionalism. We strive to be the best electrical service company in our area, and we believe we deliver that promise. There are a few errors in your review that we would like to correct, first the parts to splice wires(wirenuts) were not provided by you, as we stock this on our trucks. What was provided was the specialty switches that our Electrician installed(at no charge) The final invoice was not $5,000, but was exactly $1,428.82. Performing electrical work on homes is very technical work that must be done safely and to Code standards, which is why our electricians are state licensed and highly skilled in what they do, and to be honest, it's not cheap to provide this kind of service. We thank you for your business and would like to extend a 10% discount on any future work with us."
"Thankyou for taking the time to review us. It is unfortunate that you came to the conclusion that our pricing is "unfair". With over 20 years in the electrical trade and personally knowing many of the electrical contractors in the area, I assure you our prices are in line, and even lower than many of the service companies in Montgomery County. Thankyou for the honest rating on our quality and service, as we take this very seriously and it is our goal to be top notch when it comes to the quality of service we provide. There is no such thing as a "30 amp disconnect" this is why the electrician installed a "60 amp disconnect" which is the minimum that can be installed in this situation, so it is not unsafe or illegal to install a 60 amp disconnect on a 30 amp circuit and it isn't a higher price for that installation. I'm sorry that you have decided to not use us in the future, but I would like to extend a 10% discount on any future work with us."
Professional. In and out quickly. Had everything he needed. Was a little expensive. Dispatch fee was a separate line on the invoice.
"Thankyou [Member Name Removed] for taking the the time to review us. We appreciate your business!!"
I have had fantastic success utilizing contractors recommended by Angie's List. All have been outstanding! When I researched on Angie's List, Covenant Electric had 9 reviews, all reviews were "A" rated. In addition, as their office is only about 3 miles from my home, I decided to give them a try. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review on Angie's List, but felt compelled to do so (Read on...)
Based on Angie's List Reviews, I called Covenant Electric to get an estimate for the work needed. When I called, I found out that they charge a flat $49.00 "dispatch fee" to come by and give you an estimate that will be charged no matter what. If you do the work, they add it to the final bill at the end of the job. If you choose not to go forward, they charge you $49.00 for the estimate before leaving. They do make this clear up front that this will be charged before agreeing to come out. I agreed to the dispatch fee for the estimate. The same afternoon I made the phone call, Jason (Master Electrician) came by and quoted to bring electricity to these 2 cameras would cost $622.95 + $49.00 dispatch fee for a total of $671.95. I also showed him a single electrical outlet and our gazebo that wasn't working. Jason quoted a $99.00 ""Diagnostic Fee" to diagnose the problem with that outlet. This brought the total estimate was $770.95. I signed the written estimate for this amount and they showed up the next business day to do the work.
They were prompt upon arrival to do the work. The wiring for the cameras went smoothly and without any problems. Upon completion of wiring the cameras, Jason put the main breaker back on, and headed to our backyard to "diagnose" the problem with the gazebo outlet. In no time at all, he came back into the house and said "there was nothing wrong with the plug or wiring, it was just the GFCI button was tripped and 'all I had to do was press the GFCI button.' "
My wife gave him our credit card to pay for the bill as I was at work. She forwarded a copy of the receipt to me. Upon review, I noticed I was charged for the full amount of $770.95. I called and spoke to Michael (who appears to run the office) and told him there must be some mistake in the billing. I explained to him that by Jason's own admission, there was nothing wrong with the plug , just the GFCI was tripped, and all I had to do is "press the button" on the GFCI and I was charged the full $99.00. Michael said he would check with Jason and get back with me.
Michael got back to me and said, "we have agreed to charge you $99.00 because of the diagnostic fee was agreed to and there was 'some effort' to do that work!"
I said, "After spending $700 for other work, you are going to charge me $99.00 to "press a button?" That struck me as being patently unfair, and not a great way to do business. Basically, Michael's response was "Sorry...you agreed to the charge, and you are lucky that Jason only quoted you $99.00 as the diagnostic fee for this should've been $149.00!" For 30 seconds of "work" and 'pushing a button," I was charged the FULL $99.00 fee as quoted.
I fault Jason for not removing the fee from the original quote before processing the charge considering I just spent close to $700.00 with them anyhow (including a $49.00 dispatch fee). In addition, they were on site already and it took seconds to 'press the button." Michael was totally unapologetic, and what he basically said was this: "you're lucky this was diagnostic fee was under-quoted by Jason as you should've been charged $149.00!" C'mon now..you're adding insult to injury with that kind of response and could not be considered by any stretch of the imagination as a good customer service response. Michael made it sound like I should've been overjoyed that I paid only $99.00 instead of $149.00 to press the GFCI button! Frankly, I am not feeling overjoyed. Rather, I am feeling "FLEECED!"
I hope the $99.00 fee they "fleeced' from me was worth the goodwill lost from a new customer in a large and respected neighborhood. They not only lost single customer, but they lost a customer who is also very quick to refer good contractors who treat the customer fairly. Bottom line is that I will not only NEVER use them again. In addition, when someone in our neighborhood gets on our email loop and asks "does anyone have a recommendation for electrician?," my response will be: "Whatever you do, DO NOT USE COVENANT ELECTRIC unless you are willing to pay for 'work' even if it was not performed."
BUYER BEWARE: Beware of the "covenant' you enter into with Covenant Electric because once you sign the estimate, whether actual "work" is performed or not for a specific task on that estimate, YOU WILL PAY FOR IT and YOU WILL BE TALKED TO LIKE YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY ABOUT PAYING IT!
Great job guys...wishing you the best of luck with that approach....
Respectfully,
Fleeced in Conroe
PS: I can anticipate your response (if you respond to this at all) to be something like...."we charge a flat rate for diagnostics" - well to charge $99.00 to push a button after I spent $700 with your company - I guarantee our reviewers will side with me on this one and any justification you try to use to uphold your position will only show your true colors as a company.
"[member name removed], I'm sorry you feel "fleeced." We charge a flat rate fee for diagnostics, no matter how simple the diagnostic may be, as I made you aware of before the work began. The other work performed did not go "smooth" without any problems, and the work actually took an hour longer than anticipated, and yet we still charged you the agreed upon amount. We have waived such fees in the past but because the job was more difficult than anticipated we were in the right to charge you the diagnostic as agreed upon. We will continue to give up front prices and perform quality work for our customers."
"Thankyou for your positive review. We appreciate your business!!!"
They diagnosed the problem and found what caused the short, corrected it and replaced a 15 amp GFCI Receptacle. They replaced the old metal cover to an outside plug with a new weather proof- while in use Bubble Cover. Very quick response and very professional. Would use them again if I need an electrician.
We have referred him to several other people and they rave about him as well. In 30 years of home ownership we have never had an electrician that was so prompt, and his prices are more than fair!!!
Call this guy, you won't regret it!!
