"It looks like we dropped the ball on the refund. [Member Name Removed]'s project was completed around the 15th of April 2017. On the 25th we sent her a letter informing her that she had overpaid on the project. Specifically, the letter stated "Occasionally it happens that, in the rush to get everything inspected and see the crew out the door, the deposit payment is forgotten and the payment check is written without deducting that previous payment. Such was the case on your project. I am enclosing a check refunding the $150 deposit you originally paid, as you made payment in full on the day the crew completed the work." We discovered this overpayment on our own, and sent the refund to [Member Name Removed] without any request from her. On May 17, we were notified by our bank that four fraudulent checks had been submitted on our account. Upon investigation, it was determined that we would have to close that account and open a new one. In order to protect outstanding checks written on that old account, we gave the bank a list of checks that should be honored, and [Member Name Removed]'s refund was on that list. On Saturday, July 8 we received an email from [Member Name Removed] letting us know that the check had not been honored by the bank. And this is where we dropped the ball: I was leaving town that next week for my daughter's wedding, and it appears that we did not respond to that email. [Member Name Removed] never contacted us again, and this review is the first reminder we've had of the issue. We have sent [Member Name Removed] a new refund check with an apology. We should have done so long ago."

We were simply overwhelmed with estimate requests at that point in May, and her estimate was overlooked. That is not our typical behavior as evidenced by our otherwise positive ratings. But in this case we failed to do our job. I commit to providing a timely response to Angie's List members going forward."
