Lastly, my friend has since taken his car there and they told him he needed all of his brakes replaced - i'd driven the car and he really didn't. This is a classic rip off move from garages and a good indication that you should look elsewhere.
The lady at the counter was very nice, actually one of the nicest people i've met at a mechanic's front desk. The Mechanic I spoke to seemed uninterested.
****Ok, now this is where it gets a little tricky and theres a few ways to take the services I received but I hope it helps! As a woman, who moved 1000 miles away, looking for a mechanic, I might as well have SUCKER written across my forehead. However my last mechanic was my Dad (he had diagnosed/confirmed the repairs I was looking to have done here), with 30 years experience. I grew up working in the shop with him, learned ALOT to the point where he would let me use a stall to work on mine and my friends vehicles and while temporarialy unemployed I went in daily to help him out. So being a female who also knows about cars is a double whammy, however, I dont have the tools, hoists, ect here to do my own work. Also brakes are one of those things that definately is best left to a true professional, stopping is pretty important in my book!
I had told them the power steering box needed replaced, they said it was just the hose. Ok, cool, trying to save me some $, but the $14 hose was going to cost approx $120 to fix...Yikes! Was told the front brakes and rotors needed replaced "as they are badly worn". Explained to him how they were just replaced 4 months ago by my boyfriend and his father and that I will admit whether or not they were installed correctly was a matter of debate as I had my suspicions right after they were "fixed" and was pretty sure the film had not been taken off. Even with this in mind there's no way they were worn, let alone badly enough to warrent replacement. I requested just the rear brakes be done at this time (Still want to find a GOOD mechanic and although my Dodge has issues, the price is way too steep. Dont worry, I found much more helpful reviews on a free site ;) ) On the plus side, they kept the inspection to the areas of concern and didnt try to add in the other issues I know of i.e. oil leak, new spark plugs and wires needed, exhaust. Down side, if I didnt already know this, an "Oh by the way, I noticed issues with x,y and z" would be helpful.
By 3pm, still no call that the job was finished so I called them as I would only have a ride untill 4pm. I was told they were just finishing the 1st side (SIX hours and only one brake changed out??!) I explained to them I would only have a ride until 4ish and their response was "Well you can come up here and wait" Gee Thanks! As we were leaving the house about 4:10, I got a call that it was done. Hmmm 3 hours to do the 1st side & 1 hour to do the 2nd? Guy must have finally had his coffee LOL.
So I guess if you have plenty of time & money and 1 thing needing fixed its a good place to go. Unfortunately, I dont believe in paying for "Nice" and will be taking my vehicle elsewhere until I get my own equiped garage ;)
