This was a three day job. They arrived at 7am every morning with a crew of 5-6 guys and didn’t stop moving the entire day. This company was customer focused from start to finish and exceeded every expectation we had. Honestly we were a little hesitant to spend the money on this project but feel very good about the value we received once the job was completed. It was impressive. We highly recommend this company.

We are so in love with our covered porches! They are beautiful and better than we ever imagine. We knew what we wanted when we met with Loren but did not know how to make it work. Loren took our ideas and made them a reality! Loren even went the extra mile and had our front porch built ahead of the scheduled construction date so we could move into our manufactured home. The whole construction crew was professional and considerate.

Loren and his entire crew were excellent. Even though this project was relatively small, they treated it as if it was the most important one of all. To us, of course, it was! We brought in Loren and his team late in 2017 to tear down and re-build a 15 year old 2nd story deck (~70 sq feet) attached to our house. They moved quickly, providing transparency into pricing and the effort/timing required to complete the project. Loren and team did an excellent job communicating throughout the project to ensure we would be satisfied with decisions made and materials used. We asked them to build the deck water tight (it previously was not), so we could make better use of the covered area under the deck in our backyard, and this was not a problem. Houston Deck and Shade completed the project on time and on budget, and we've been using the deck for a few months now and are very satisfied. We were so impressed, we also asked if Loren and team could assist with tearing down and replacing our 15 year old privacy fence, which they handled in less than a day. Loren and team are responsive, professional, skilled, and do a great job communicating with their customers. We highly recommend Houston Deck and Shade, and we would hire them a 3rd time if the opportunity presents itself.

Loren meet with me on short notice. He did a design and estimate on the spot. He was responsive to my special needs and planned a wonderful addition for my home. The price was fair for the work required. The crew that came were terrific. Everyone was skilled and most respectful towards me and my needs. I cannot say enough positive about Houston Deck and Shade--they were great to work with and did an outstanding job.

Removed what was there and started with clean slate. Houston Deck and Shade did fabulous work building from my plan. Now it's a super sturdy deck and with low rails and curves made with pressure-treated wood. Very knowledgeable, work completed on time, cleaned up after themselves, a pleasure start to finish. The pergola looks fine but appropriate precautions should have been taken.. Loren recommended to attach it to the roof. The first problem that he did not foresee with his design was the guttering draining off then spilled right on top of you if you were outside. Secondly, when he attached the pergola to the roof he drilled holes into the roof decking that created a roof leak that we just discovered with Topical Storm Harvey. When the guttering problem came up I called him. He said that he would come look the problem. When he was there he wanted to charge me $75. I l told him that I was only willing to pay for his gas ($25) since the pergola was less than a year old. He truly could not have been more unconcerned. Then came the roof leak. My husband just hung up with him. Loren said that we "stiffed" him (those were his words) so he was only willing to talk to my husband over the phone. We were disappointed in the manner in which he handled these issues.

"Dear customer, it is not our desire to get into a debate over who did what, however here are some facts for anyone reading this review. We built the pergola in March 2016, at the time of completion all was good with the customer and the job was paid in full. Fast forward to June 2017, the customer calls and states that during a rain shower the pergola leaks, so I promptly drove from our job site in Livingston Tx to [Redacted] Tx which is about 90 miles one way. Upon arival I got on the roof with a water hose to see where the problem was. I discovered that it had nothing to do with the pergola itself but the the gutter did not have a splash guard on it and the water was simply running down the roof valley, under the pergola and over the gutter and splashing on the patio rather then under the pergola and in the gutter. At that time I suggested the customer get a gutter guy to put up some splash guards. After driving 180 miles round trip and spending 4 hours of my time I feel a $75.00 service charge is more then reasonable for something that was not a warranty issue. I recieved a letter in the mail containing $25.00 and a note said " this should cover your gas " So yes we got stiffed. Fast forward to 2 days after Hirricane Harvey made land fall on the Texas coast, I recieved a call stating the pergola was Leaking. Our warrantie does not cover wind storm or other acts of God. We truly do our best to please each and every customer, however some customers are just un reasonable no matter how you aproach the issue. Please make your own judgment of the situation. -Loren Goodrich"

Great. Planned the job. Materials delivered a few days after I got HOA approval. Crew showed up at 7 the next morning and had the old fence down and the new fence and gate up shortly after noon. Worked hard, and the new fence looks great.

Great! Loren was very professional and punctual from my first call to him to get a proposal and bid until the job was completed. He had several good ideas and was very flexible and accommodating. Everything went exactly as promised and scheduled. The crew that did the demo and construction were very professional and courteous throughout, and left the job site in good order each evening when they left. Done on time at the quoted price. And best of all, it looks great. Lots of compliments from everyone who has seen it. Don't think you can go wrong with Loren and Houston Deck and Shade. Hired them again to replace back fence.

The crew did a great job! Lots of beautiful designs and stains to choose from. The crew also helped us to identify flooding under our deck so it could be repaired before our new deck was installed. The crew was professional and worked quickly. I had to contact them a few months after the job and they were courteous and quick to help us.

Exceptional Job!
Our deck/pergola project involved tearing out the old deck and pergola and replacing it with a new one that was essentially the same as the old one. Houston Deck and Shade gave us a very competitive bid, was professional in their bidding approach and listened to any changes we suggested or needed. After all was agreed, we proceeded to get our HOA approval. After that, they obtained the city's approval for the job. During this period, HD&S shade stayed in touch with me on the progress of each action and when they would likely start the job.
HD&S arrived everyday at about 6:30 AM, ready to go. They tore out the old deck/pergola within a couple hours and cleared the area of debris. Once the lumber arrived, they got on with the work, finishing the entire project in three days, which was at least a day faster than we had expected. They did an outstanding job constructing the deck! The crew never seemed to take a break nor slack off. Very professional in their approach. All boards were routed, nailed and cut perfectly. The pergola (cedar) looks great, especially the peaked open/slatted top to one of the areas. This took some excellent carpentry work and they performed admirably.
After everyday, they cleaned up their cuttings and put their tools in a safe area. They always listened to any concerns (very few) I had during the construction. All questions were answered immediately to my satisfaction. At the end of the job, they waited until we were home so we could go over the finished product. Everything was in great shape and we were very satisfied by the work.
Clearly, we were very happy with the job.

Loren and his crew were, to put it simply, wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about them. Loren was honest and straightforward about timing (he was booked out) and managed expectations. The most amazing thing was this: I accidentally over-payed him, and rather than ignoring the over-payment, he called me w/in hours and advised I had made a mistake. There are not many folks out there as trustworthy. The quality of his work was outstanding. Our old deck had the same footprint, but this deck is in a different league. Finally, when we found an area that had been done incorrectly, he promptly sent out someone to fix it. I cannot tell you how pleased I am.
