Steve is professional, kind, and overall good people. His work looks wonderful and he goes above and beyond to make everything look just right. He doesn't skimp on any detail. I would hire him again for any carpenter/wood work.

"Not sure why she gave us an F. she rescheduled a number of times. had paid for a coupon. We were unable to take the job because it was not something we could do. She was refunded her coupon payment from Angie's List. She had new windows and doors put in and trim over damaged siding. to repair we would have had to take all the newly installed and painted trim to replace materials etc. it should have been done while the windows were out or at least prior to the trim work being done. I am one guy and it was just not a job I could take."

While most remodeling projects are tedious at best, what a pleasant experience we had working with Steve and Darci of Hill Country Stairs and Millworks! Unlike some contractors who say they specialize in stairs when they really try and just generalize in everything, Steve is a "Stair Master." He quickly assessed our project, gave a fair and reasonable bid within 48 hours, and completed the job on time, and above and beyond expectation. He does the work himself - no bidding the job and then disappearing while his "crew" takes over. He clearly prides himself in doing honest work and providing excellent craftsmanship. The staircase, even without the final staining and painting, are a thing of beauty! What a relief to find someone in the remodeling business you can count on. And he will even deliver a pie from his daughter's pie company, Sweet Thang, as a bonus! We will definitely call on him again when its time for more millwork in our remodel project - in fact we have him already contracted to do two more projects.
Response from Steve's Woodworks - Hill Country Stairs

"It always a pleasure to serve homeowners with their projects. A job well done with a pleased homeowner only continues to motivate me to continue. I also like the opportunity to share my knowledge with homeowners on large remodel projects to assist them in future decisions and ideas. Looking forward to my additional projects with these clients."

Steve was very professional, he showed up when he said he would, he took his time to make sure the job was done right. He repaired the ceiling and wall drywall and crown after the posts were removed. Each day, he took the time to clean up so we did not have to deal with a construction mess. We were very pleased with the work he did. I have attached a before and after photo.

Steve & Darci were great. Darci helped with the design while Steve was detailed & took pride in his work. He made sure the stair railing looked as if it had always been there, even adding floor pieces where needed. They estimated a week's worth of time to complete the project & Steve worked every day for at least 8-9 hours straight to complete the project on schedule.

Absolutely amazing work. Was on time, professional, got right to work and had it completed when he said he would. Very prompt in his responses, and worked around our schedule even with all of our moving parts and last minute schedule changes. My banister looks absolutely beautiful and flawless. Could not be happier!

Steve and Darci came out to the house and looked at the work to be done and a few days later emailed a reasonable estimate and told us when Steve would be able to start and how long the job would take.
Steve started the job on the date and time agreed and worked professionally and diligently to complete the work and to also do a couple of other repairs we needed. Steve is a true professional--not only in the work he does, but in making sure the job site is cleaned up each day. In addition, Steve is friendly and pleasant to have around. Our thanks to Steve and Darci for a great experience. We will definitely call them when we have other carpentry issues!

Mr. Depweg is a true professional - highly skilled and very knowledgeable about not only carpentry but other building trades as well. He listens to what I want and then builds it!  He offers advice based on his in-depth knowledge which is very helpful when trying to do something creative. I feel myself most fortunate to have found Mr. Depweg to help me finish my 1920 Craftsman remodel.

Steve was awesome! He came out and gave us an initial estimate, showed up the next week when he said he would and came every day for 4 1/2 days. Many times, working late. He did an excellent job and went above and beyond.

Steve's work is incredible. My new staircase is a work of art.  We have done many remodels and flips and I can tell you there isn't anyone that has come close to Steve and his expertise and ability to solve complex problems that we have seen.  You would think his services would cost an arm and a leg too because he is so good, but it doesn't.  We are planning a bathroom remodel soon and we will definitely have him back.  Not only is he a craftsman, he is also an incredibly good person who cares about others. If you care about the work that needs to be done and have high standards, without hesitation Steve is the one to call.

We just purchased a home and the balusters (spindles) on our stairs where placed far enough apart that our daughter could fit between them.
Steve replaced the hand rail and all of the balusters so that they are now safe for kids of any age.
Steve was a great guy to work with, everything looks great and is solid as a rock.

Steve is a very talented wood craftsman who can generate many options for any need.  When we contacted him at Steve's Woodworks / Hill Country Stairs about a few potential projects for our home, he and his wife, Darci, responded
quickly and set up an appointment for us on the day we selected.  Afterward, he transformed two areas of our
home.  First, he created floor-to-ceiling bookshelves along two walls in our study, creating a custom library area that
even included a hidden, ?secret? compartment. He smoothly incorporated all of our input at every step of the way and,
due to his expertise, the final product proved to be much better than we could have imagined.
The second area of our home that Steve improved was our laundry room.  After considering our small room with its
limited storage capacity, Steve created three improvements.  He identified a significant area of otherwise ?wasted? space behind one wall and built a large, custom cabinet that fit precisely inside it, allowing our detergent, etc., to get out of sight.  Next, he installed a laundry chute from our second floor into another custom cabinet in our laundry room, allowing our
children to avoid walking down the stairs while carrying laundry.  Finally, he accommodated our request for
laundry drying racks by installing two large dowels, one across each of two other walls in the laundry room.
Together, these three improvements have made our weekly laundry duties much more efficient ? anyone interested can find photos of this and our bookcases project on Steve?s blogspot.
Beyond these projects, Steve was always willing to provide friendly and helpful advice on how we might approach other projects around the house.  Throughout our time together, he always demonstrated an exceptionally good work ethic and he was always pleasant.  We already have a few more projects in mind and will not hesitate to contact Steve to begin work on them when we are ready.  We highly recommend his work.

The posts were rotting, he built exact replicas of the posts himself and installed them with metal on the bottom and installed drainage. Now, they won't ever get wet and won't rot. He is absolutely the best woodworker I've ever seen. He is so careful and detailed. He is just fabulous.

Steve arrived at around 10:30 am and finished his job 4 1/2 hours later.  He removed our chair lift from our stairs, placed the chair in our attic.  Because Steve knew we desired to have the option of re-installing the chair lift in the future, he wisely suggested we not separate the lift track housing unit into separate subunits in order to facilitate a future re-installation.  However, he could see that the length of track guide unit would not permit placement in the attic and suggested placement on a shelf in the garage.  I liked the idea a great deal, but did not want to deal with the hassle of buying and installing the shelf, so Steve did this as well. It looks professional and the track housing unit is protected until needed.

He did an excellent job of repairing the damage on our stairs created by the bolts that held the railing for the chair lift. That repair involved inserting permanently attached dowels in 4 holes on each of 4 stair step surfaces.  Each dowel was stained to match the existing wood surface.  The repair is almost invisible, which made me very happy!  I had been concerned that removing the chair lift would cause our stairs to look awful. The stairs now look beautiful!  And we no longer have to dodge the chair lift when walking upstairs.
We asked Steve about replacing the six posts on our front porch which had weather damage, causing the wood to rot.  We had another company suggest repairs which would have been OK.  However, Steve's  repair suggestions made were far superior and will insure that our new posts are protected against water and weather damage, as well as termites and carpenter ants.  We will be using Steve's Woodworks for the replacement of our porch posts.
Steve and his wife make the "Steve's Woodworks" repairs a delightful experience and produce excellent results!

We contacted Steve and Darcy thru Angie's List, and set up an appointment for them to look at the work. They arrived on time and were willing to take as much time as was necessary to talk over several options regarding accomplishing the job. They are both very personable and it was a pleasure meeting and spending a little time with them.
Soon after we received and accepted their  proposal, and  Steve was actually able to start a week early. He arrived on time both days, always pleasant and ready to get right to work. Of the dozens of contractors we've dealt with Steve is far and away the most conscientious about  taking care of our home and cleaning up. I mean, Steve will clean up every little mess as he goes along instead of waiting until the end of the day. I have no doubt that the area where Steve worked was cleaner after he left. Even the driveway was spotless. In addition, I had no worries at all leaving Steve alone in the house.
As for the wall itself, the word that comes to mind is amazing. Steve far exceeded our expectations. He is extremely meticulous about everything being perfect. We couldn't be happier with our experience. If you want a contractor that wants to do things right and takes some pride in their work, Steve is your man.
