We paid Seasons over $160,000 to do extensive outdoor work, including irrigation and landscaping on 3+ acres, stone work, concrete work and an extensive outdoor living area and kitchen. With that level of investment and work, we expected honest and timely service. Their warranty service was horrible and in our opinion, dishonest. Instead of addressing our warranty claims with integrity, they fabricated crazy reasons for damages ? all done, we believe, simply to avoid responsibility. Some times Seasons denied they could even see clear damage ? damage that was visible to the naked eye and which other contractors said was obvious. In multiple cases, they promised to do work and then never showed up ? for months ? with no follow up or communication. We followed up for months and they just ignored us. We finally gave up chasing them. Some of their work was plain sloppy. They blamed us for things that were obviously their mistakes and which other contractors agreed were Seasons? fault. And finally, after ignoring claims for about six months, they invaded our property without our permission and began taking promotional pictures of our home for their own use. We ultimately demanded that they take them off their website.
Here are more details.
Cracked Stonework. They installed extensive stonework. After 7 months (Jan ?14) we had major stone damage ? cracking, pitting and flaking. Seasons first claimed the damage was probably caused by gunfire or vandalism or a rock ? all outrageous excuses - but insisted it wasn?t their fault. Seasons claimed they had never seen this kind of damage, though another mason with 35 years of experience said (in writing) that that was difficult to believe, since cracking, pitting and flaking are very common.
Seasons claimed they couldn?t see obvious damages and we had to waste time and bring out other contractors just to prove that there was damage. As an example, Seasons tried to pass off obvious extensive foot-long cracks in the stones as just natural veins. We needed qualified masons to prove otherwise. We brought out other masons to inspect Seasons? work and those masons immediately told us that Seasons either sealed our stones wrong or used damaged stones. At one point, Seasons agreed they?d fix only one crack but they decided the rest ? which included major cracks and flaking - were not worth fixing. We refused to live with all that damage. It took almost 3 months of endless battling with Seasons and huge amounts of our time and the involvement of other contractors before Seasons finally admitted that their sealant job was bad.
Faulty Electrical. Seasons installed outdoor electrical outlets. One failed immediately after installation. For 7 months Seasons couldn?t fix it but made us jump through endless hoops testing it. Finally after about 7 months (Jan ?14) Seasons agreed that they needed to replace the outlet, but no one ever came. We chased them two months later, in March ?14. They promised their electrician would address it again. No one ever came. Again in Aug ?14, we emailed about our warranty claims. Once again, they failed to respond to our emails about the outstanding warranty issues. We are now going to hire a qualified electrician to fix Seasons' faulty work.
Faded Wooden Deck. Seasons built and stained a wooden bridge deck. After 6 months it faded horribly and turned gray. Seasons agreed to re-stain it in Jan ?14, but never sent anyone for two months. We chased them again after 2 months, in March ?14. Once again, they promised to fix it, but did nothing. We again asked what happened to our claim 5 months later, in August ?14, and they never responded to our email about this claim. We gave up and paid another contractor to re-stain it. The other contractor looked at Season?s work and concluded (in writing) that Season?s work was faulty and shouldn?t have looked that bad in just 6 months. Even off-the-shelf sealants and stains from Lowes are guaranteed to protect from water damage and graying for many years.
Dead Trees. In the heat of summer, Seasons installed 10 Leland Cypress trees and a drip irrigation system to water them. Because of the hot summer, Seasons instructed us to turn our water up high and we followed their instructions carefully. Most of the trees died within a few weeks and Seasons blamed us for over-watering, even though we had followed their instructions exactly and Seasons had installed the irrigation system. They replaced 7 of the trees, but not all, hoping the others might recover. We reduced watering as they instructed. One tree never recovered and died. Seasons refused to replace it saying we killed it. First they said we overwatered. Then they said we underwatered. All these trees are located in the same area of our yard and are irrigated off the same system. If it was a watering issue, all of them would have died, not just one. Our current landscaper confirmed this in writing. We finally paid our current landscaper to replace the dead tree. He evaluated the tree and the area and confirmed (again in writing) that the tree died from shock from being transplanted in the hot summer, which he confirmed is the worst time of year to plant trees.
Damaged Rain Sensor. Seasons installed a rain sensor that didn?t work. We advised them in writing in March ?14. They acknowledged our claim but did nothing. We chased them 5 months later in August 14, and once again, they never responded to our email about the warranty claim. After many months, we paid someone else to replace it.
Cracked Concrete Overlay. Seasons installed concrete overlay that began to crack and crumble within 8 months. We reported this to Seasons in March ?14 and they promised to send someone out. Once again, they did nothing for 5 months. We chased them again in August ?14 about the warranty claim and they didn?t respond to that email about the warranty claim. Finally in September, after having failed to ever send anyone out to look at it, they claimed it wasn?t their responsibility. They never looked at the damage. Ever. They ignored the claim for half a year; never said a word. They ultimately wrote that ?concrete installers do not warranty against cracking??
Unauthorized Invasion of our Property. After almost half a year ignoring our claims (Aug ?14), Seasons wanted to take promotional pictures at our home. We withheld our permission and took the opportunity to raise the warranty claims again. Quotes from our reply to Seasons? request for photos:
?My goal would be to say, sure. But I have to say your email surprised me? After my long battle with (owner?s name) to fix our damaged stones, he just dropped several warranty repairs I?d ask him to address? What am I missing??
Despite our refusal to allow them to take photos, they came and did it anyway when we were not home! Our friends caught them and told us. Seasons confirmed they took the photos and we demanded that they not use them. Seasons continued to ignore the warranty issues and didn?t respond about them. We chased them again about warranty items a few days later and once again, they never emailed us back about the warranty issues.
Dave Sullivan did a project for one of our neighbors. Their patio looked nice so we asked if they would recommend the company. They had very positive things to say about Dave and his company. So I called Dave and asked him to bid on the job. He listened to what I wanted and then made a couple of suggestions. He told me why he would recommend one over the other, and we took his suggestion. When it came to pricing it out, we realized that our dreams were bigger than our budget could handle. Dave reworked the design 3 times till we got what we liked and worked in our budget. That being said, Dave was still cheaper than Home Depot prices for the same thing. At no time did we sense we were getting any lesser service or responsiveness from Dave becuase we were reducing the scope of the project.
The project itself went off without a hitch. Dave showed up the first day and gave the crew instructions and went over the plans with them. They completed the work in 2 days. The Arbor is exactly what we imagined it to be, and the crew was very detailed in their clean up.
We have had really bad luck with other home projects and have been concerened each time we start a new one. Dave and Seasons landscape has restored our faith.
I highly recommend this company and will definitely contact them first for any other landscape work we need done.
