We had significant reservations going into this upgrade. Horror stories of thinset dust covering everything in spite of dust barriers! But that pink tile had to go. We had four bids. Mike's was the last because he had commitments elsewhere, and Cedar Creek was not close to Buda--SO glad we waited. Mike was easy to talk to, very experienced with every aspect of the job, prompt return of phone calls, and worked solo, and was the only guy who came up with the real square footage of the job, the others being higher of course. We hired him, set a schedule, and Mike backed his truck up the drive on Monday morning, set up plastic barriers, and had the old tile out in the matter of a half day. The thinset was not so easy; he chose to float the floor, covering the old thinset with a fresh, smooth base. No disastrous dust storm for this house!! He worked around the refrigerator, leaving it attached and working, using quick hardening thinset so it could be rolled in and out as needed. The new floor started to appear, with the 1/8 inch grout lines we asked for. Mike had to deal with dimensional variations in our tile, especially thickness. Mike's lunches covered perhaps 6-8 minutes; he worked efficiently, steadily, and neatly. The new floor went in at the end of the day, Thursday. It looked fantastic--the larger Cortez beige tile with thin grout lines now popular, replacing our small, pink, high gloss tile on which a pepper granule could easily be seen. Mike said that if I liked it now, I'd LOVE it tomorrow after the grout went in. No exaggeration on his part!! It was masterfully done, and a lasting tribute to his care and skill. Thanks, Mike, for the wonderful upgrade.
Description of Work: Mike took up the original ceramic tile in our kitchen, breakfast area, and laundry room, including a pantry and a coat closet-approximately 400 sq. ft. He then installed our new American Olean 18 inch square ceramic tile, this being accomplished over a week of continuous work with a pretty tough commute for him through the teeth of Austin traffic.
