We hired Gary based on his reviews and his price was over $200 less than the other estimate, so we felt very happy with our decision. He scheduled our work and told us it would take 2 days to complete. my husband was home while I was at work, so I wasn't there during the project, but I reviewed it when I got home. In order for him to replace the flooring where the wall used to be, he had to take the flooring up all the way across the room. He took the quarter rounds off of the baseboards to do this, and in doing so the quarter rounds were chipped and broken in a few places. They attempted to repair with a terrible caulking job. The nails that were used to attach the quarter rounds back to the baseboards were not below the surface of the wood, allowing for a clean patch job. Some of the nails were actually bent and folded down on the outside of the quarter round. We had to pull those out ourselves, patch, sand, re-caulk and paint the baseboards and quarter rounds ourselves. They removed the wall and replaced the drywall. The next day they sprayed the texture and replaced the baseboards and quarter rounds on the other wall where the partial wall used to be, but when I got home from work that day, after they had already left and been paid, I could see that the baseboards were set at an angle with a difference of 1/2" from one end to the other, and making them higher than the baseboards on the other side of the room. Because they cut away the quarter rounds from the baseboards and did not reset them properly, the caulking was horrendous. I called Gary and told him of this problem. He acknowledged the problem like he knew exactly why it looked that way, because when he replaced the baseboard, it was resting on top of a piece of the flooring on one end, instead of below on the other end. He said that he would come out the next day to fix it, but my problem lies in the fact that he knew what the problem was. Then why not fix it before replacing the baseboards in the first place? I was there this time to make sure things were done properly. I also pointed out the fact that they had sprayed the texture onto my curtains, the front door, the wreath on my front door and my entryway. He also cleaned out the sprayer on my grass, leaving a large area that we had to rake and clean up so we didn't have a dead patch. After he removed the baseboards and reset them to the correct level, there was a line on two walls where the baseboards had been. Some of the drywall and texture came off as well, requiring me to patch, sand and repaint. Once we finish patching, caulking and painting the final effect will be very nice, but my husband and I had to "fix" his work. This was a very frustrating experience. Gary was apologetic and did come back to fix things, but he never should have left the job that way. I also feel that he was messy in his work, and had a disregard for my property. He should have draped plastic over anything that could have been sprayed by the texture. We have several other projects that need to be done, but this left a bad taste in our mouths about hiring someone else. We will most likely do it ourselves, but if we do have to hire someone, we will not use Gary or recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Remove partial wall in entry to open up living room. Drywall repair and replace flooring would be needed.
