Door Service, General Remodeling + 2 more
When they did the downstairs area, they damaged a piece of furniture and put a 6" x 4" hole in a closet wall. They denied responsibility, but finally fixed them. They'd actually just put the baseboard over the bottom inch or so of the hole, not bothering even to point it out. (That seemed really strange to me: if it had been there, why not mention it to fix it?) The removal of the existing trim resulted in numerous places where the paint peeled off with the trim, and I had to point these things out several times before he fixed them. He asked me several times whether it had been like that before, which of course it absolutely hadn't. When it finally came to the stairs, he finished the bottom stair, which I will post a picture of. It was at this point that I kind of gave up on getting a nice job done. I was most interested in getting the flooring installed correctly, and I thought they'd done that, at least. After they left, I was disappointed to find globs of glue on door knobs, my couch and bedding, and all over the tops of the flooring. There were also two palm prints of stain on my bathtub that I don't think are ever going to come off. There are too many other details like this to include in this report. But, the real kicker: a week and a half later, the flooring started to come unglued. They hadn't prepared the under floor correctly. When I called Gene, he again refused responsibility. He said it would cost me another $500-$600 to fix it. At this point neither of us would budge, so we agreed I would contact him later. About a week-and-a-half ago, I sent him a letter outlining my point of view and requested a response within a week. He hasn't responded.
