The wrong type of grout was sent originally. By the time the "correct" grout was delivered it was late in the day, but the installers stayed until the job was done. This might seem a good thing but I really wanted them to leave! They were in my house almost 12 hours that day, and since they were working on the entire downstairs, I was stranded upstairs all day.
"Correct" is in quotes because I was told the grout would have sealer built in; however, this was not the case. The installers had to come back another day to seal the grout. They brought the sealer . . . and nothing else. I discovered after they left that they had used two rolls of my paper towels to wipe up!
Nothing goes perfectly but, for the most part, I was pleased. One thing: For the few issues that occurred, Justin at the store was quick to respond and set things right! Because of his attention and professionalism, I intend to complete the flooring installation in my home through the store.
The leader of the crew was very attentive whenever I had a question, even if I was mumbling it from another room; it's like he had radar! I liked that the crew stayed onsite during their lunch break which didn't last very long at all. They were also very courteous and kindly said 'excuse me' whenever I happened to be standing in their workspace, which was often the case because I was mesmerized by the methodical flow of the activity as well as the beauty of the flooring. They moved my furniture carefully and tenderly as if it were made of glass and placed it exactly where I wanted located. They were truly artists who can cut forty five degree angles out of small pieces of wood in seconds! Their work ethic and attitude was professional, impressive, and commendable.
Overall, I would rate CRT Flooring Concepts as excellent based on their showroom, salesmanship, and workmanship.
If you are considering buying carpet from CRT or Costco do your homework first. In general the whole deal was not good. We scheduled an apt to look at the carpet. We had to wait 2 weeks to get the apt. We were scheduled for 5 in the afternoon as I recall. About 5 we get to let us know the salesman was running late and did we want to cancel. That should have been the first clue. We told them no we had already waited 2 weeks and changed our plans to make this meeting. So we picked out some carpet we liked. All we heard about in the store and at the house was about this amazing padding we would be getting. Keep that in mind. I knew the cost of the carpet was high when we bought. But I went with it thinking about the amazing padding and the quality work and service I would get since this was a Costco deal.
So we order the carpet and about a week and a half we get a call to schedule the install. I setup a morning install. 9 - 10:30. Day of install about 10:30 I get a call, installers are running about 1/2 hour late and should be there soon. Great I thought, at least they called. Now keep in mind my wife is in town expecting me to pick her up end of the day and knowing I might be a bit late. We are reasonable people. The installers did not show up until 1:30 in the afternoon. They started ripping the carpet out and then laying the new pad. The pad is ok. It is not as good as what I had, but ok. The job gets finished at about 6:30. I have bought a fair amount of new carpet and they have at least vacuumed the new carpet. Not this quality job. No vacuuming of the new carpet and junk from the carpets left all over inside and out.
I did complain to Costco as well and they said sorry to hear about your bad experience.
The carpet is nice and the installation itself looks to be good quality. I am thankful for that.
1) Initial contact - CRT has a nice showroom and their sales people are very friendly. They showed me a wide range of flooring and I didn't feel like they were upselling me at all. In fact, the opposite happened - I walked in thinking more expensive and they talked me into cheaper. Nice!
2) Steven came out to do the measurements, was patient and helpful discussing the options and his thoughts. I chose flooring and tile and he promised to send a quote.
3) Unfortunately, that's where it got sort of bad. I had to call back several days later to remind them to send my quote, which they then sent. I stopped in to make some updates to it, which another person promised to do. They never did.
4) A few days after that, I stopped in a third time and the manager, Danielle, made changes on the spot. Fine. She also had me sign on the spot, which I was ok with. She verbally scheduled installation and promised to call me the next day with an update on status of order and to confirm installation dates.
5) The night before installation was supposed to occur, I had to call CRT. I spoke with Danielle, who didn't seem to remember our conversation from a few days earlier. She didn't know the status and said I had to call back in the morning.
6) The next day they called and asked me to be home during the day for delivery of the order. Fine, I quickly arranged getting off of work early to accommodate them.
7) The installers came, they were a 3rd party contracted by CRT. They clearly had my installation dumped on them at the last minute and were trying their best to fit this in while managing other jobs. They were nice and spent time discussing my installation with me, since CRT had not communicated anything with them either. Looks like they were just sent a bill of materials to pick up.
8) The installers, trying to do my job along with another job (thanks to CRT's inability to schedule and communicate) made them late and rushed. They showed up hours late, usually without calling.
9) In the end, the installation was fine, not perfect. The floors look nice but for $6k I wouldn't think I'd have to nag them to spend it.
degree of care and attention to every detail. Steven was very through by providing options to ensure our design elements could be integrated with our existing flooring. Installation team was extremely enthusiastic and married to the job from beginning to end, and they showed up on time and worked hard until the evening every weekday, until the job was complete.
We would happily endorse CRT Flooring to our friends and anyone who wants a more beautiful home!
All the people at the CRT location on Burnet Rd. are professional and helped us in making our decisions. Couldn't be happier with them.
They were able to get the floors installed quickly.
We're very happy with the flooring - both the wood floors and the carpet.
The carpet crew were fast and very efficient.
CONS:
The wood flooring crew spoke very little English (nothing usual with that these days), but it makes communicating a challenge.
This crew had a mixed level of experience - some more than others.
The guy doing the under cutting of the door frames should have started in less visible doorways. His cuts were way more (too high) than the thickness of the flooring required. A few times the saw "got away" from him leaving a 4 - 5 inch cut in the baseboard to the left of the door frames he was under cutting.
They were supposed to caulk the quarter round, but when it came time the caulk and gun had left on another truck.
So we provided our caulk and gun to the last two guys finishing up, but they didn't seem to know how to caulk. Plus, they were so messy I stopped them (as I can do a better job and I'm the one doing that will be painting that trim later).
