Description of Work: Cal and his crew walled off an open area for me, creating a new bedroom. We were very happy wiht the work performed. The crew is very respectful and involved us in the process along the way to make sure they got things right. Their work was good quality and complete. | |The estimate was not the cheapest, but was well under what some of the other contractors were charging. | |I would (and will) definitely use these guys again. In fact, I've had Cal out to give me an esitmate on completing the shower remodel I started. Not only did he convince me that I could do more of the work myself, he gave me pointers on how to do the steps that I had called him in to do -- spending a fair chunk of his day with me, with no direct payback to himself. He's a class act. | |I've read the negative reviews. Those people haven't given them a chance or expect more from a contractor than is realistic. I have, and will continue to, recommend CLHowton.

Description of Work: Mr. Calvin accepted the job to finish installing tile in the master bathroom. A few months prior to meeting Mr. Calvin, another person started re-modeling the bathroom. After 2 months, I was convinced that he wasn't able to do the work properly & I let him go. Mr. Calvin was highly recommended as the best in his field. He was neat and clean, very professional, respectful of my home and took measures to protect the contents of the bedroom and the floors. He corrected some mistakes made prior to his arrival and fixed them as well as finish tiling the tub, tub-surround, skirt, walls and repaired some work in the shower. He finished the work on 2 Saturdays and was prompt each time. I would hire him for any other jobs when they come up. I highly recommend him because he was always neat and clean, courteous, AND smart.

 + -1 moreGenerally speaking Calvin and his crew were professional and on-time. The estimate was fair. To ensure the work was done within the budget my wife and I had established, we only had Calvin's guys demo the wall, re-frame to accommodate for the load (its a two story house and this was first floor) and prep the drywall. The work was done in budget and on-time. His guys were very professional and left the area clean after they completed the job. As I stated, i finished the wall with paint and put a top on the now half-wall. The only complaint I have is that the cut was not done as clean and as straight as I would have liked, making it difficult to set a wood top straight and secure. I communicated my intentions, so I would have liked for them to have been conscious of this when completing the job. Because the cut was not square, it was a bit difficult to set a wood top in that was plum to the new cut in the wall. Again, overall the work was a solid B, that said, more attention to detail would have been appreciated.
Description of Work: I had a partial wall made from where a full wall once was. The crew demolished the existing wall, re-framed to accommodate for the load and prepped the surface. I finished the opening.

 + -1 moreFinally got around to remodeling my front bathroom. Calvin was probably the best that I have had the pleasure to work with. He always showed up on time, performed really good work and cleaned up after himself every time. He took setbacks in his stride - the plumbing supply store (now out of business) ordered a left hand tub instead of a right hand tub, I changed the size of the window at the last minute, nothing fazed him. Just hire him, simple as that.
Description of Work: Complete Bathroom remodel stripped down to studs, new floor, window, tub etc plumbing , electrical.

 + -1 moreHe seemed to be very professional. He came out on time. He gave me an estimate even though he was very busy. He provided it on time. I did not use him because he could not start the work immediately. He had some prior commitments. I would consider him for a future quote.

 + -1 moreCalvin did an amazing job. The quality of his work is outstanding and he performs his projects as if he were doing it in his own home. He truly cares about the outcome of his work - so much sometimes that he is overly critical of himself. That's not a bad thing at all - he pays attention to all details of the project.He is a perfectionist and in doing this job - it paid off. Pictures are posted on his website. I would definitely hire him again for other projects around my house and recommend his work.
Description of Work: Replaced carpeted stairs with hardwood. This involved reconstructing the stairs, staining and painting and knocking down a curved wall and replacing it with curved rails and bausters. I purchased all supplies. This was a difficult project due to the curves, angles and redesign of some of the stairs and landing. He planned out every aspect of the project and kept me informed as we went along. At the end of each day, he cleaned up any mess and made sure we could use the stairs as he was working on and with them. At the end of each day, we reviewed what he accomplished, and he encouraged me to check his work and discuss any findings.
