This was my worst nightmare !! After agreeing with MV Construction Services, a father and son business (Juan Vasquez Sr. and Jr), to construct a small workshop building, we gave them $20,000 to start on Tuesday, Nov 16, 2021. Juan Jr. told us the construction would start immediately, the following Thursday, Friday, or Monday. Nothing happened. Every time we called Juan Jr. to ask when the project would start he said, he thought “someone would start tomorrow”. A subcontractor didn’t show up to place forms to pour a slab until the following Thursday, Nov 25th, 9 days later, and concrete wasn’t poured until Dec 8th. As the concrete was being poured Juan Sr. wanted me to pay $300 to the concrete driver for the delivery. Concrete block walls were constructed a few days later and Juan Jr. wanted more money. He said he had spent the majority of the $20,000 and only had $1500 left. I brought 2 friends here to review the construction and both said the slab and concrete block walls should not have cost more than $10,000. This was a small project, less than 400 sq. ft of concrete and 500 sq. ft of concrete block walls. It was Christmas time and I suspected MV Construction took their Christmas bonus early. Six weeks into the project with five days of work, total. Next step was framing the building but Juan Jr. had not ordered the necessary lumber and materials to continue to work - another delay of two weeks. Because I didn’t trust that all the money I was paying was being used wisely I insisted I would pay for the lumber costs directly. But when the lumber and framers showed up, I had to run to the lumber company to get the lumber they needed to start. Juan Jr. had not ordered the correct necessary materials to begin building. I wrote MV Construction another check for $5000 to pay the framers because they wanted 50% down and the balance when they finished. But a few days later Juan Jr. wanted more money because he said the $5000 was not even half, and he had to pay the framers money out of his own pocket. With the construction delays, delays in ordering necessary materials, and having zero trust in MV Construction Services, I Fired Them. In the end I think they hit me for $10,000 - $12,000. Don’t do business with these people, they are not trustworthy or dependable. Don’t make the mistake I made.
