Gary very responsive on the phone and came out to see about repairing our Visio. We had a limit on how much we wanted to spend vs getting a new TV and after spending Time diagnosing the problems with the TV we decided we would rather get a new TV instead of repairing our Plasma screen TV. There were a few things that could have been causing the problem if it was the $150 fix we would have gotten repaired but it was more expensive part that went out. Gary did check all the options. We highly recommend York and good to see that there are still honest TV repairmen out there.
Description of Work: Came out and diagnosed problem with Visio plasma TV that would power on but get no picture.

Gary arrived, and in a very short time, diagnosed the problem, a bad display panel. There was no repair to be done. Aside from the fact that we had to buy a new television, we could not have been happier meeting Gary York. He was punctual, he had a cancellation so he could come immediately. He was professional, he knew exactly what the problem was. He was honest, he didn't try to promote the life of the television. And he was totally likeable, I felt as though I'd like to invite him to dinner! Absolutely we would call him again, and refer hom to a friend.
Description of Work: Our 6 year old Sharp television started to fade upon starting. After a few minutes the full color would return. This continued for several months. Finally, it just gave up....................turned on, showed a glimpse of a picture and then turned black. We called York because of the Angies List Ratings. He was busy at the moment, but asked if he could call back. He did call back and we explained the problem. He said that he was on the other side of town, but that his GPS told him that he could be here in 25 minutes. He was! But the television was beyond repair. He diagnosed a bad display panel and indicated that repair would cost more than a new Tv. He had said on the phone that the service call would be $50. That is what he charged us, plus tax.

Our TV had been taking longer and longer to display a picture after the power was turned on. Initially it would take about 5 minutes, but as time passed, it would take 30 minutes or longer. I found York TV on Angies's list, and saw favorable reviews. I called York on a Monday afternoon and described my problem. He said that he was booked for the rest of the day, but could come to my home the following morning at 8:30 AM. Come Tuesday, he was right on time, and maybe a little early. Within 45 minutes, Gary had disassembled the TV, found the problem, made the repairs, reassembled the set, and it now works perfectly. The cost of the service was within a few dollars of the estimate he had given me on the phone. We are very pleased with the service we received from York, and I told Gary that I hoped one of our other sets would start giving us problems so we could use him again!
Description of Work: Gary replaced 7 capacitors in a 46" Samsung flat screen TV.

Since the York TV did not do the type of service I required, they recommended someone who could do the service we needed. We only needed a rooftop antenna. The person they recommended did the work very well.
Description of Work: Actually this company did not do the type of service I needed. I needed a rooftop antenna. But they were so nice to tell me a business that does rooftop antennas. That person turned out to do a great job. So I appreciate what York TV told me.

My Sony TV would not start. I had tried all the suggested Sony fixes to no avail such as unpluggin the set from the wall and restarting. The Sony owners manual indicated that with a 6 or 7 blink flashing red led on the front there was likely an internal problem. I called Gary on a Thursday morning to see if he might be able to fix it. He was on another job at the time, but when I told him the problem and provided the set model to him he diagnosed the problem right away which he said is fairly common with Sony TVs. He has seen this problem many times before. He had a service cancellation, so he checked that he had the repair parts with him and was at our house an hour later. He removed and resoldered two integrated circuts on the power board and we were back in business in a little over an hour. He is very knowlegable, did a repair in home that I would expect only to happen in a shop, and the quick response was very much appreciated. Gary is a rare find in todays repair world.
Description of Work: My 34 inch HD Tube Sony TV would not power up. It is about 8 years old. Gary removed, installed and resoldered two integrated circuts on the power board inside the TV and we were back in business in about and hour.

My DLP TV had an HDMI port issue. Gary took the time to understand the problem, research possibly remedies, and provided me an estimate for the repair. Gary gave his honest opinion that the repair would not be worth the cost, and presented several alternate solutions (none of which would have benefited him in any way). I truly respect that he didn't try to sell me on the repair and gave his honest opinion. When I called Gary, he asked me a lot of detailed questions (in human English) and guided me to key stickers and plaques on my set. He narrowed down the problem and was able to work me in that afternoon! He was right on time and replaced the defective part. In addition, he did some cleaning up of dust that could have caused me a problem later on. The TV worked great! What impressed me the most about Gary's service was that he was dealing with a very painful dental problem and still gave friendly, impressive service. Wish we could clone him and teach the clone about A/C repairs.
Description of Work: My TV had started blacking out, dropping the audio and shutting itself off. After speaking to Gary, he was satisfied that the light bulb (projection TV) was bad. Turned out his diagnosis was right on the money!

York TV repairmen was punctual, explained what he thought the problem was and showed me on the panel where the issues were. With a 14 year old TV, I wasn't sure if it could be prepared, but he fixed the issues quickly and the picture looks like new.He took off his shoes at the door, and was very courteous. I was thrilled that we didn't have to replace our old tv.

The problem started happening more and more frequently so I called York and spoke with Gary. He listened closely, asked a lot of probing questions, and gave me several thngs to look for to help him troubleshoot before he came out since the problem was random and we could not guarantee replicating the situation while he was here. When i called back a few days later he scheduled an appointment for the next business day, and was herre within 10 minutes of his appointment time.It took about 45 minutes, but he was thorough, asked a lot of questions, and told me what to look for if the fix did not work. It has been a week and no sign of problems.

Gary showed up at my home about two hours later, politely removed his shoes at the door, and proceeded to do the repairs to my set. He spread towels out to protect my carpet and went about getting the repairs completed while making small talk about televisions. Gary is very knowledgable about his work, obviously has a great deal of experience, and was polite and professional. His price was reasonable and I couldn't be more happy with the service and quick response I received from this gentleman. I would most certainly use this company again and would eagerly recommend Gary to anyone that needed a television repaired.
Description of Work: I called York & Video Service early in the morning after the picture went haywire on my old 60" projection TV. Gary Warner answered politely and professionally and was happy to help me out. After a brief description of the problem I was having with the set, he explained what he thought had happened and what parts would likely need to be replaced. He showed up promptly at the time we had scheduled and made the repairs in my home within a 30 to 45 minute timeframe.

He was coming from a little further out so he called before he came out to troubleshoot the problems so he did not have to leave to get more parts. He was very knowledgeable and told us how to take of your tv. He was not rushed, and took his time to make sure everything worked. His pricing was very reasonable and competative.

Called Gary Warner on a Thursday, explained what was happening with the TV. He recognized what was happening and stated it was a familiar problem with Sony TVs. But he had to order the parts and they wouldn't be in for a few days. Once the parts came in gary called scheduled an appointment to drop by. Finished a previous job earlier than expected so he came earlier. Replaced the two parts in about 20 minutes. Since he knew the problem he didn't charge for the a visit to determine problem so bill was just about what he quoted. TV works great now.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced failed PWM Controllers for High & Low Voltage Power Supplies.

He told us what he thought was wrong with it and that it would be best to buy a new one. We were not pleased. We had trouble getting him here. He never did get back to us after he had looked at it. I had to call him to see what he was going to do with it. I wondered if he could fix it or not.

From the time I called Gary to the time he finished the repair was about two hours. Fastest service I have ever received from any repair tech! At 9 am he told me he would be at my house at 10:30 am and he was. Very punctual! He quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem (faulty capacitors). He quoted me $125 and charged me $124.49. Great experience, would definitely use again!

We have used York to repair our t.v.s for about 20 years and am very pleased they are listed on Angie's List. We would definitely recommend them. They are reasonably priced and come out when they say. We will continue to use them in the future.
Description of Work: My 12 year old 32 inch t.v. had a broad wavy line at the top of the screen. We called York and the repairman came out within two hours and after about 30 minutes he isolated the problem, replaced a part, and the price was exactly what they had quoted over the phone. The set is fine again.

Our three year old Samsung DLP television started cycling on and off for no apparent reason several months ago. We researched online and found out that this is a common issue with these televisions. However, we also found out that there are many different reasons (and parts) that could be causing the issue and it seemed like the vast majority of people were unable to repair them on their own. Regardless, we tried many of the tips and tricks that people had used - to no avail. We thought about replacing the TV, but we couldn't afford a comparable replacement. We finally decided to contact a repair service. We searched on Google for a repair service and could hardly get them to return our calls and when they did, all they would do was quote us the housecall fee - they would not discuss the issue or even if they were aware of this issue with Samsungs in general. We were going to hire this service just to see if the tv could be repaired, but when I called to try ans schedule the appointment, my call was never returned. A few days later I signed up for Angie's list... and found York. It was minutes before their posted end of business day, yet my call was answered promptly. The owner of thr business, Gary, took the time to listen to what we had going on and was able to come out the next day - with a very reasonable service call fee. He was extremely punctual and got right to work on the tv (he even took off his shoes at the door as it was raining outside). He found an issue with the ballast and spent time trying to repair it in order to save us money. Unfortunately, it could not be repaired (but boy, did he really try) so he called to order the part immediately and informed us of the price... we were all for it. He returned when the part came in and promptly installed it. Unfortunately, as I had also read on the forums, the new part did not resolve the issue. Gary was exteremely straight-forward with us and stated that continuing to troubleshoot with new parts was likely going to be too expensive... so it was decided that we would stop at this point (we were not charged for the new part, btw). It was very obvious that Gary was unnerved by the fact that the repair was unsuccessful. A few hours later, Gary called us and said that he had done more research and there was one more thing that he could try that would only take a short time to check and required an inexpensive part he had on hand. We happily agreed to give it one more try - AND IT WORKED!!!! :D We are thrilled beyond words to have our tv back!!! Gary's expertise, attention to detail, communication, and work ethic are like none other I have ever encountered.

It cost less than $50. I also used them in the year 2010. I had a problem with the sound. He came out and did some onsite repair. He took the part and soldered a little something on the circuit board. He removed and replaced something. It was a one man company and he was available. The customer service was outstanding. You call up and he would show up. He had very fair prices. He actually understood as to what he was doing and he was a true technician. He is not going to come and take the television out of your house. I have had him in my house twice and both the times he has done the repair in my home. He would crack open the television set, whip out the soldering and that sort of thing. I would absolutely use him again in the future.

The technician was considerate; calling me at the pre-arranged arrival time and stating traffic was bad so he would be a little late. He was very polite when we removed his boots to work on our TV in the living room. I offered to help him with the TV because of its size, but he insisted that he could manage it by himself. He work quickly and quietly even though I asked him questions during his work. He was very informative giving me far more information that I could possibly understand, but was extremely conscious of informing me of all I needed or wanted to know. i would definitely call York again if we needed repair service. A very reliable repair company.
Description of Work: I called the York TV Repair Company asking them about out TV not turning on. The Technician spent time on the phone describing the problem that we were having and I gave him information about the performance of our TV during this problem. He came to replace a specific item in the TV that commonly causes theat mal-function. He was going to replaced the item but first - before actually closing the TV - asked me again to describe the incident just to "clarify" the problem so we both agreed this WAS the problem. He then replaced that item and closed the TV up and checked all the other working appliances (VCR, DVD, etc.) to see that they were working correctly. When he finished he mentioned that he noticed another problem that might not be noticeable to the novice eye. We talked about the problem and resolved that the problem was too minor for a correction at this time. Cordially, he gave me his bill and insured me that the problem was gone guaranteeing his work done. Then he left.

As above. I didn't interact directly with him. My office manager did. I jus caaled and set things up and wrote the check.
Description of Work: Clinic tv wouldn't come on. Called and came next day ( would have come the day I called but no one at the clinic had any checks). Came and diagnosed the problem and had the parts to fix it. Would recommend him highly.

Outstanding! I called the Friday after Thanksgiving. He answered, sounded happy to be at work, and walked me through some diagnostic tests for my broken TV. Rather than come out the house and discover the problem, he figured it out over the phone. Thank you, thank you, thank you. BTW, the factory service phone support wouldn't even try to do with this man did.

York TV is AWESOME and I recommend Gary Warner highly - On 10/27 at 10:19am I called and left a voicemail - 10 minutes later Gary called me back! He was polite, professional, and articulate as he asked me to describe the symptoms associated with my dead TV. He went on to say that he needed to do some additional research and he would call me back. - Per Gary's notes he researched and called me bay about an hour later. I was not available and my voice mail would not allow him to leave a message. - On 10/28 at 2:00 he called me back again to let me know that he had done his research and based on the symptoms and the model TV, it essentially was not fixable. Gary could very easily have asked me to bring in the TV (55 inch very heavy) and the charged me a "diagnostic fee", waited a couple of days and called me to tell me he couldn't fix it. He did NOT do this. He spent his own time and effort at NO expense to me to tell me the TV wasn't worth fixing. THAT is customer service.
Description of Work: I had a dead TV. Gary provided a detailed description of the issues associated with repairing my TV and recommended buying a new one.
