It saddens me to write this review because I was hoping to have a good experience and it was important for us to get this project finished, considering we had previously had a bad experience with another contractor. Merced Arismendez knew this coming into the job, spent about 2 weeks quoting the job and we ultimately felt he would do a nice job and selected him to complete the 400 sf addition. The Hanger Remodeling is not really a remodeling company - it is just Merced Arismendez who occasionally solicits help from family members. He is really more of a handy man, and it became clear pretty early in the process he was in over his head on this project. He took a long time to get the proper permits, and then charged me extra for additional time he spent at the permit office, when his bid said permits were included in his bid. This ended up being the least of our problems - as Merced ultimately stole $2,000 of our money that was unearned, and in violation of our written agreement and draw schedule. To date, he has not paid back this money. Our draw schedule clearly specified payments for work to be completed, and he took payment for a draw then did not perform any work although he said he was going to start that next day on it - so he clearly understood what the money was for. About a week later when we asked why nothing had been done, he said the money was gone and he needed more money for materials if we wanted him to finish the project - a clear breach of trust and our contract. Where did the money go?? He said he spent it on his mortgage and labor (presumably for another job since no work was done on ours). The only positive I can report is he did seem to bring in a good quality plumber and electrician, although the costs for these services ended up being WAY higher than what he had quoted. His bid included plumbing and electrical, but once we got into the job it was clear he did not really bid the job appropriately, or understand what all the job entailed, because I was presented with a new, much higher cost to do the work. We are not angry at Merced, just extremely disappointed. To any prospective clients looking for a good contractor, keep looking. There are too many honest, hard working and professional contractors to consider Merced or "The Hanger Remodeling."
Description of Work: Was contracted to complete a garage conversion / addition to our house and failed to complete the job. The contractor obtained permits and did some work of mediocre quality, but ultimately did not complete the job and took money he did not earn and violated our agreement.

Response from The Hanger
[removed member name] has lost contractors because of his champagne taste on a beer budget. I should have looked up his last contractor before starting his job (my mistake). I have proof of where all the money went and I showed him. As far as the electrical and plumbing estimate, everything looked hooked up until I had my professional come in and found out that NOTHING was done to code. I kept telling the homeowner that the cost would be a lot higher because of that reason. I was nice enough to let him keep the permits under my company's name but after this I will go and remove it. I've learned after 20 yrs or so in this business that some people are just rude and think that the little people in this world don't matter. Just because your born with a silver spoon in your mouth DOESN'T give you the right to treat others that way. I have a list of past clients that will be more than happy to talk about my workmanship.
