A nightmarish clown circus. Based on contractor horror stories in my area, I let Mike Tatro know that quality, honesty in pricing, and sticking with the job once started were of utmost importance. Despite assurances on those fronts, I got completely skunked. After tearing out my small bathroom and the flooring in a central portion of my house, Mike walked my job for days, sometimes weeks on end to take others. I agreed to a price about twice too high on one section of simple, straight-forward ceiling decking just to keep him engaged on my job (which didn't work) and, regrettably, paid in full for that section before it was finished (and it never was). Mike made no provision for construction debris disposal, tried to stash everything in my trash can, otherwise left it unrestrained and blowing all over the neighborhood. I agreed to pay for and pickup expensive paint that was supposed to be included in his price--it was slopped all over the place and left out to freeze, painting still remains unfinished. Mike ordered twice as much lumber as required by mistake (which he factored into my bid), then left it sitting out in the weather for months. Crew had no or inadequate tools, borrowed and broke mine. Woodwork is incredibly crude and will need to be reworked in many areas. Drywall texture splattered all over the place, including on wall AC. Despite me repeatedly reeling out loads of slack on delays and paying draws I hadn't agreed to to help him out, Mike openly talked smack about me on my own job site and elsewhere around town. Made mistake after costly mistake, including mislaying expensive special order tile (that I paid for) three times until all of it was used and will need to be torn out, reordered (with another long wait) and relaid at enormous additional expense. After the final screw up, Mike came to my house in the dark before 5 a.m. attempting to throw all his stuff in his truck and slink away; became so belligerent and nasty that I asked him to leave. The following day he brought two sheriff's deputies to my house so that he could retrieve a couple of raggedy hand tools and a fleet of plastic buckets, a ridiculous use of these fine officers and taxpayer dollars. The deck repair around my house, which was my first priority to complete before spring, was never even started. An expensive replacement door I paid for was left uninstalled, exposed to the elements and vulnerable to damage. The 6 X 9 foot bathroom in my only guest bedroom, which was started on January 10th, is completely non-functional 90 days later and will be so for at least another six weeks while new materials are ordered and another contractor engaged to clean up. I've cancelled family and other guests multiple times and will continue to have to do so. Mike's entire crew quit him in the middle of this fiasco, other property owners around town are also complaining.
