The carpentry work was done very well and was exactly as we expected. The staining of the deck was a different story. Phil didn't really appear to be that knowledgable regarding the preparation or application of the stain. There are many gaps and many areas that are different colors due to the application procedure used. Once finished with the deck, he requested payment. I looked out and discovered that all the furniture that he had moved to the side had not been put back. I asked him about this and he said he doesn't move furniture (he had no problem moving it out of the way to apply the stain).

He did an excellent job; was very professional, timely and conscientious. We gave him access to the house and he worked at his discretion. We trust him and very highly would recommend him to others.

My husband had many doctors' appoints and Mr. Cogburn worked around those appoints and did a beautiful job. He corrected the walls that we tried to do and completely covered the mistakes we made. I would encourage anyone to have Phil Cogburn work on their house.

We called Phil the beginning of June to get an estimate to replace three windows in a condo we own at Canyon Lake. We had already had a professional window company out and they had taken dimensions for all the windows and we passed them on to Phil. He wanted to go out and look at the windows and the situation before he gave an estimate. He called us from the condo and we gave him the location of the windows that were to be replaced. One of the windows is large, barely staying in the frame and cloudy'; the other two are small windows that are the same exact size. The other windows in the condo are in decent condition and due to the extent of other work we have to do we had decided not to replace them. Phil gave us an estimate of $865 which was verbal over the phone. My husband wanted to be there and since Phil does not work on weekends and my husband needs at least 4 weeks to take a day off, they agreed on July 14th, approximately 4 weeks out. Two weeks before, Phil called my husband and told him that he had just called to order the windows and they would not be in by that date. We were very disappointed but we decided to give him another chance and they rescheduled for August 3rd.We arrived at the lake at 8:00 am just as Phil was calling. He said he was still home, waiting for his brother to come. They arrived just before 9am. We were a little concerned that they were arriving so late since the temperatures here were due to be over 100. After they arrived, we discovered that he had ordered an incorrect window, one that was larger than the one we had needed. He had apparently not written down the correct dimensions nor listened to our instructions as to which room needed the replacement. We were at a loss as to what to do but we decided to have him go ahead with the two windows that were correct since the temperatures were rising rapidly. About 9:30 he began the first window, had it almost in place when he discovered that he needed trim. So, he and his brother took off to get that about 10:05 am and returned about 11:05. They finished up the first window about 11:20 and announced they were going to lunch. We were shocked that they were going to use the cool morning hours to get lunch rather than working, but we figured they knew what they were doing. They returned about 12:30 and we sat down to discuss what we were going to do about the window they had incorrectly ordered and also the one that was still needed. He agreed to lower his installation charge by $100 on one of the two remaining windows and we agreed to pay the full price on the windows themselves and installation on the other window. We also agreed to pay $50 for the trim. I wanted us all to sign off on the agreement and he refused to do so, saying he trusted us. He and his brother put in the 2nd window and agreed to try and finish the third window. About 2:15pm he came in and told us he was done for the day, refused to give us a day for the installation of the other windows and presented a bill for the other two windows that had been installed for $475. I told him that this was $50 too much but my husband told me to go ahead and pay him. After we got home that night, my husband called Phil and Phil told him that he didn't want to complete the work. Now we have two windows done and will have trouble finding anyone to do the third window since most companies require at least three windows. Additionally, two of the windows are side by side and will not match now. We are going to have to go to considerable extra expense since he backed out of the job halfway through. Do not use this man for any work that requires outdoor labor and don't use him unless you get a signed estimate and a contract. Learn by our mistakes! He has cost us hundreds of dollars and a lot of aggravation. We would have saved money going with a reputable company in the first place.

He did everything he said he would do. He had a good price, and he was there on time. He always did a good job of cleaning up. He didn’t take forever to do the job. He was in and out.
