I thought that Rich was going to be the answer to a prayer. He was also a local neighbor, so we figured that he would be a good bet. How wrong we were! He allowed his workers to unsafely remove the existing metal structure, endangering crew (and his children, who were onsite) and doing damage to mature trees in the process. Let me just say that he didn't appreciate being questioned about allowing that to happen. He demanded payment for the work done, stated that "he had to get out of there right now," and packed his equipment up and left. In retrospect, I should have fired him right there, but my husband smoothed it over with him, because lets face it, we were in a tight spot. He demanded more money to return because he said that I was difficult to deal with. My husband told him that was not possible because of the bank and that we had an agreement. So work started again. The actual work was sloppy, the OSB sheathing doesn't line up, the framing will need shimming in places to keep compression load from cracking the drywall and the bracing under a load bearing wall will need to be beefed up to support the roof load. We made the mistake of paying him weekly, instead of regular bank draws. We kept current on all payments throughout the building process. 23 days into the work, he demanded another $5000 or he was going to pack his stuff up and leave. After another few days of wrangling, Rich said that we were waiting too long to decide to pay him (actually we were waiting on money from the bank.) After receiving $21,000 of a $24,500 contract he packed his stuff up, sent a text that he was no longer interested in the job, and left. He completed about half of the work stated in the scope of work/contract. Avoid this guy at all costs! I will never recoup the money paid to this man. He admittedly doesn't work well for women and has a hair trigger.
Description of Work: Rich Davis of Bucks Unlimited was hired to complete a second story of a framing job that had been started by another contractor (who became ill and couldn't finish.) The scope of work included removing an old metal roof structure, the framing of a second floor, a double layer of sheathing, Tyvek wrapping, placing the windows and an exterior patio door and decking an 8-12 roof. The work was to be completed in about 30 days
