Alpha Remodeling and Contracting

I hired John bceause we had a water damage claim on our house and needed flooring redone. He said he could do any type of flooring and gave me his bid and even tried to work with my insurance company as much as they'd let him. I told him multiple times that once the flooring was pulled up, if the subfloor needed to be fixed, we'd have to submit pictures to insurance and wait for them to approve it before we could proceed. He never said he had a problem with this or that he was not interested in that part of the process. He was very polite and answered any questions I had. He was even kind enough to store my flooring in his garage for several months as we battled several illnesses and delayed the project beyond what we anticipated. As for the actual job, his work was very sloppy. The flooring we chose speaks for itself and is really the only positive thing I have to say about the whole project. The vinyl sheet he layed was cut short in many places or crooked. It did not even fully adhere to the subfloor and is bubbling in multiple places on every floor area he laid. He used enormous quarter round and caulk to fill in the gaps and cover his mistakes. The strips he used at the showers and bathtubs started peeling off before the job was complete and though he glued a couple of places back on, the other parts are now starting to peel off. What makes it all worse is that he NEVER addressed the subfloor which was definitely warped and uneven. So there are creases in the flooring and even places where nails should have been hammered down and we can feel them through the floor. As for the vinyl plank he laid, he also didn't address any imperfections in the subfloor and basically just slapped floor down. So there are boards cracking from underneath from nails that aren't flush and bends and large gaps in the uneven subfloor. Not only that, but a large number of planks were damaged when they were cut to be installed. The corners are torn, bent, or otherwise scuffed up...somewhere around 20+ boards in the living room and hallway, and some scattered ones thoughout the house. He also left a sizeable crack between boards at the threshold of a couple doorways. We've attempted reaching out to him multiple times, both through text and actual phone calls and voicemail. He only responded through text and set up three separate appts to come fix the damage and never showed up for any of them. We are very disappointed in his work and responsiveness and would not recommend him to anyone. He has a complete lack of attention to detail and I had to stay on him during the job to make sure certain things were addressed. When I asked him about the bubbling vinyl sheet he said it would settle and even out. The only thing settling has accomplished is showing how poorly he did everything else. We will basically have to hire someone else to redo the entire project in the future or have to live with the poor job he did. We're a single income family and can't afford to pay twice for the same job, but he refused to refund our money or even a portion of it, even after he failed to come back and correct his errors. We are very disappointed.
