N & S Domestics

It started off okay. I only found out the extent of what they had done when I returned home several months later. They had offered to do some contracting work as well since I wanted a few alterations to the house. What I didn’t know at the time because I had to vacate the house while they replaced floors, changed appliances, replaced all the wiring in the house, etc., is that they hired illegal immigrants to do the work who I’m not quite sure were even licensed to do it. Sylvia at one point sat down with me and said she specifically she wanted to help this class of people through offering them jobs. I’m not opposed to that provided they are QUALIFIED to do it and don’t do crummy work. Furthermore I ended up hiring one of their cleaners to help me with some things. She herself had DACA but her mother who worked here as well at the time was illegal. I have a sensitive job with the state and specifically cannot hire illegal immigrants. In addition, I was told by this young woman I hired that she and her mother were instructed to throw anything away that “had dirt on it”. Consequently I’m missing thousands and thousands of dollars of merchandise, including jewelry and kitchen appliances that were in boxes, food I had shipped there for them to put away, and home decorations, as well as heirlooms, dishes, and silverware that was in the sink, or the dishwasher, or drawers and cabinets in my kitchen and bathrooms. I dropped by the house to check on things one night. It was 9-9:30 pm. I heard someone rummaging around in the backyard in my things. N & S had put all my furnishings and appliances on the back deck including 100+ year old family antiques. Uncovered. At any rate I rather stupidly opened the door as it could have been someone with a gun, and I find this small Hispanic man who speaks no English whatsoever rummaging through what was put out there, going through items and boxes that had nothing to do with electrical work mind you. He handed me a phone and it was Sylvia one half owner of N&S on the line with him. She said he was the “electrician”. She had to translate as I showed him the work. I don’t mind that, it’s that I don’t think he was even certified as I look around today at the shoddy workmanship of whoever she hired and charged me $30/hr plus, in order to complete things I asked for her to do. I fully regret ever hiring this company. I wish I could undo time. They have literally destroyed my confidence in hiring contractors. I will never do it again unless I know 5hem already or get a referral from a known contractor. They either threw out or stole food, priceless heirlooms, jewelry, appliances (then reinstalled the old broken ones), etc. They threw out a super expensive mattress and tried to replace it with a cheap one. I don’t appreciate what they did, which is enrich themselves at my expense then not deliver. I could go on and tell you story after story of how they utterly failed to do what they said they would do, a good job mainly, and to save me money. I look around on and a half years later and so many things are broken that they installed incorrectly it’s just laughable that they are still in business fooling people out of their money I’m sure.

I feel responsible for the good review I previously left on Angie’s List and want to absolve myself here. I left that review before I found the electrician rummaging through my things while he was on the phone with one of the N & S Domestics owners and before I moved back in and found out most of my things, even brand new things that were still in boxes when I left were either thrown out or stolen and the old broken things reinstalled, sometimes more than once to maximize their earnings. They did this with painting as well, painting before the electrician did his work, after he did it, then again when he came back to install some additional things, then again after they installed all the light fixtures and ceiling fans, 5hen again when they weren’t satisfied with their own work (which was fine) and again after they moved things back in and the floors were finished slopping paint on my brand new sleigh bed and the stove and the wood floors. I would STRONGLY recommend you not hire this company for anything ESPECIALLY where you are away from the home and must trust them with your stuff. I fully trusted them and they destroyed that trust when I moved home and found out everything they had done to me and my grandmother’s house. I ended up talking to two of their employees who informed me they were instructed to throw out anything that had dust or dirt on it. They threw out my dishes, my grandmother’s silverware, and brand new things in boxes just to name a few. I found antiques that had been in the family since pre civil war times were broken or missing. I found on one visit home that my antiques, some of which were upholstered, my electronics, appliances, clothes, and other items had been left outside on the back deck or front porch or driveway, uncovered, to molder and be destroyed by the frequent rains we get in the fall and winter. They attempted to throw out good things. Communication was a challenge as most of their workers did not speak sufficient English to understand what I was asking of them and even the owners of N & S who spoke perfect English often got my instructions wrong. They charged me $30/hr to basically make phone calls and arrange services or bids and then paid the workers around $9/hr from what I understand, many of whom were not legal I also found out. Please understand they charged me $30/hr to do the work as well then paid the workers themselves this $9/hr. They also hired the highest bids it seemed from their stock of friends and family and added their own surcharges on the bill. I got bids myself once from good solid contractors who are well respected by the community for their work to redo my hardwood floors, and they undercut the lowest bidder N & S wanted to hire by literally $10,000-$15,000. It’s like they realized I had some money put aside and fully took advantage of the situation. I literally went broke paying them thousands and thousands of dollars out of my retirement fund to do the job I hired them to do. I would highly recommend that if you have hired them and were not in the home when services were provided that you thoroughly check your valuables and other items and also think back on any time something went missing and you brushed it off. If you are considering hiring them, do so at your own risk!!!

It was fine. The work result was good.

I am missing most of my immune system and get very ill, very easily. I live here with my three dogs and cat and they had literally torn the place apart. The dogs got into the garbage daily, spread it everywhere, peed and pooed everywhere. The place was a veritable hazmat site what with dog feces and pee in the carpet and on the floor when they tore open trash bags. To top it all off I’m trying to do renovations to the house and had ordered new light fixtures for inside and out, plumbing and cabinet fixtures and hardware, and new things, like chairs, etc. They were all in boxes stacked almost to the ceiling. It looked like something out of the show Hoarders. I had been sick for three months or so because of my immune system and kept getting sick over and over again because of the condition of the house. I was unable to clean at all. I had to leave the house and stay with a relative. N&S was recommended to me by my mother. They came in and in less than a week got rid of trash, empty boxes, disinfected the place, and hired a handyman to fix things. They organized everything. When I told them I was renovating, they said they could take care of that and get me some good, skilled workmen. Within 24 hours I was meeting people to see if they were a good fit to do the work. They got me bids, they unpacked my deliveries and put them in the appropriate place in the house, they organized my boxes of renovation materials and put them out of the way, they gave me my life back. I was able to come back home and have been here a few days. So I wanted to say some nice words about them. Would I hire them again? I’ve already done so and hired them permanently! Would I recommend them to my dearest family and friends? Without any hesitation. You won’t be disappointed if you hire them.

They are awesome. I can't say enough good about them.They come out every other Monday. I had a substitute because my regular girls were getting kids ready for school and I had no problems with their substitute. I think their pricing is very reasonable. I have an outstanding and continuous relationship with them.

And who I can't say enough nice things about them, cause they come out here every two weeks. They come out every other Monday. They're coming out this coming Monday too.

The man who came was great but his helper was his son or grandson...(I've forgotten which) and the younger person was not old enough nor experienced enough to be considered the second person on this project.

Very reliable. I'm having them come on a permanent basis because they are so thorough.

The two men were on time and they worked continuously until the garage was presentable.

They left 15 minutes early, they did NOT take out the trash, and they erased my entire weekly planner on my fridge which ended up being a major pain in the rear end. They are difficult to get a hold of. If you email, they ask you to call, when you call, they do not answer, and their voicemail asks you to EMAIL! So frustrating. Their answer for trying to rectify the situation was either to have someone come over and take my trash out (are they serious?) or to have someone come over and do two hours of cleaning for the price of one. Why would I want to give them more money? I was also asked why I didn't check the whole place before they left...Hmmm, maybe it was because the floors were wet? Come on. For the size of my place (775 sq ft) they came out ahead for sure.

One girl was far more thorough than the other.

Great! They were thorough, great with my animals and upbeat.

They were prompt to call when they were not going to be on time. They stayed until the job was finished and did not rush. I would hire them again.

It was easy to schedule an appointment, and the two workers arrived promptly and began to work.  As I requested, they let me know when they were ready to replace items.  They helped me go through old paint so that I knew what was no longer good, and they placed items where I wanted them.  Then they helped me put the trash out by the curb before leaving.  I'm very pleased with the job they did.

two very nice well manned young men came and cleaned the garage... they organized EVERYTHING and id an incredible job....placed thing that were similar with other things that were similar (i.e. cleaning stuff with cleaning stuff, garden stuff with garden stuff).... GREAT job boys

Fantastic. I was skeptical when 2 guys who looked like teenagers showed up at my door, but they did a really great job. They were thorough, they used really good sense in where they put things, and they made sure everything was accessible. I can now park in my garage with ease and have plenty of space on either side of the car!

Went fine; did not take entire time but may have been due to state of my garage
