Area-Wide Plumbing

We just purchased our home and are still testing things here and there. My husband decided to test the bar sink, at which time the hot water valve exploded. He quickly ran to the street and turned the water to the house off. The plumbers that coworkers had suggested were completely booked, so we just opened our local phone book. This company offers "discounts" to first-time customers. They were able to come out less than an hour after the call and at about the same price as others. When they took the valve off is when my husband realized that they were compression fittings, which do not require welding/soldering of any kind. They only charged an additional $10 for the work. When they turned the water back on to the house, the valve was leaking. At this point, they called it done and left. My husband (with no plumbing experience at all) ended up going to the hardware store, getting a new valve, and replacing the valve, copper tubing, and faucet. The valve doesn't leak anymore. We just called this a learning lesson... which includes the fact that one should always check the BBB website before hiring anyone (this company had an F grade there as well).
