Well let's start out with the countertop. The actual slab used was darker than we originally wanted, but we accepted it because of the lack of choices provided to us.
We chose faux wood, porcelain floor tile. The TM and G installer, Carlos Perez, installed the tile with obvious chips, an inconsistent pattern, out of spec. grout lines, and edges that were not level. When the salesman, Scott, was called out he argued that it was the best they could do using that type of tile and offered to replace a few tiles. No admission of poor quality or apologies for the inconvenience. Also, we were never informed when we chose this tile, that the faux wood porcelain tiles tend to warp when fired. We learned all about this tile because we were put in a position of having to research it ourselves to determine how it should have been installed. The installer could have sorted the tiles during installation, thereby setting aside the worst of the warped tiles, however, that was never done.
The same installers made a mess of the shower too. The completed shower consisted of chipped edges on many ceramic tiles, inconsistent patterning, edges that didn't line up, and sloppy grout lines were what we ended up with. Once again a very unprofessional job. The project manager offered again to replace a few tiles when we voiced our disappointment. Once again no admission of poor quality or apologies for the inconvenience. We were forced to contact the manager of a local tile shop who came out and assessed the quality of the work for us. He came out of his own free will, without asking for compensation for his expert opinion on the tile work.
We then informed Lewis Stephens, the General Contractor, that we wanted the all the floor tile and at least 1/3 of the shower tiles removed and replaced by a different company. The owner of TMG came out to the house. He told us he'd been in business for 30 years and we asked him why we ended up with such a poor quality floor and shower if he had been in business for 30 years. He gave the question over to the General Contractor, Lewis Stephens, from Property Rehab Services. Lewis stated he and the owner of TM and G had never seen anything like this. Again, no offers to replace the tile to the extent the work would be done professionally to meet our expectations, only the offer to replace a few tiles here and there.
Because we demanded the floor be redone completely and a large portion of the shower tile, be torn out and redone, Lewis Stephens hired a different company to come in and completely replace the floor and about 35% of the shower tile.
