"At the customer's request we tested the plumbing at this property on 4 separate occasions, once in 2013, again in 2014, 2015, and lastly in May 2017. Each time the tests passed and the homeowner signed off on each test report. Furthermore, we performed each test at no charge to the homeowner or their foundation company. In April 2018, this homeowner called and spoke to my office staff claiming she experienced a plumbing leak. She indicated she used another company to repair the leak, and demanded that my company reimburse her. It is unfortunate that this homeowner experienced plumbing problems but it is a part of being a homeowner. It is also distressing to me that she believes Dalworth had anything to do with her plumbing problem. I am in this business to help homeowners with their plumbing concerns, not to create them. Our paperwork on this property confirms that this homeowner experienced continued ground movement over the past 5 years that was severe enough to where she had to enlist the help of a professional foundation repair company. This not only caused her foundation to suffer over the years, it ultimately affected her plumbing which is buried in the same ground, underneath the home, that is experiencing movement. I would have gladly helped this homeowner if she had chosen to use Dalworth. I respect her decision and wish her the very best going forward. Sincerely, Butch"
"At the homeowners request I performed a leak detection/camera investigation to locate sewer leaks under the slab foundation. The homeowner hired Dalworth for the repairs and we began the job on Feb. 25th, 2014 & completed the job the following week on March 5th. My crews were there every day until the job was completed with the exception of Saturday and Sunday. The quote provided to her was for an estimated 4 days to complete the job, however, we actually spent a total of 6 solid days on the job due to extreme corrosion of the cast iron sewer pipe that made it a more difficult job than originally anticipated. Even though the job went from 4 to 6 days, I did not raise the price of my original quote. All of my work was Permitted & Inspected by the City of Plano. The homeowner signed off on the job and even sent me an email afterward praising my work. It wasn't until several months later that she called with displeasure because she was experiencing new plumbing issues in another area of her home and demanded a full refund from me for the sewer system repair. I did not refund her money because I provided her with a quality service and all of the work I performed for her was inspected & approved by the City of Plano. I regret that she experienced additional plumbing problems months later, however, this was unrelated to any work that I did. Most houses built before the mid-1980s have old cast iron sewer systems which become extremely corroded over time and can wreak havoc under your home to a point of causing major foundation problems. This customer had recently purchased her home that had visible foundation problems at the time of purchase and, unfortunately she did not have the water & sewer systems tested before making her decision to buy. I do wish her the very best in the years to come. Wyman 'Butch' Smith"
"I am disheartened to learn that this customer was dissatisfied with Dalworth's service. I personally did a camera test at no charge and determined there was a leak on the sewer service system. A more thorough video camera investigation & isolation location was scheduled, which is approximately a 3 hr procedure. There is a charge for this due to labor and the state of the art video camera equipment that is utilized. It was during this procedure that I was able to locate 2 major sewer leaks, one on the 3" sewer service system in the utility room area, and the other on the 4" clay tile sewer service system immediately outside building structure which was parallel to the outside concrete support beam. Roots & extreme back fall were observed inside both of these sewer lines at the breaks. I submitted a proposal to this customer which detailed my observations so she could submit it to her insurance company for consideration. My assistant followed up with several phone calls but did not receive a return call from this customer. When a customer asks me about insurance coverage, I must tell them that they should contact their insurance provider with any questions they may have regarding insurance because each policy is different with regards to coverage. It has been my experience that most homeowner insurance providers will cover water leaks but not cover sewer leaks, however, that is not always the case. It is up to the individual homeowner to contact their provider to see what is and is not covered. I sincerely hope this customer has had her plumbing challenges repaired in order to avoid further damage to her home, and if not, I am willing to do everything necessary to get her back on the right track with regards to her plumbing concerns if she chooses. The leak was in a location where it could not be repaired directly. They had to install another pipe around the leak location. Both ends of the added pipe were in flower beds that had to be dug up, and they had to dig a ditch between the two ends. That's a painful nuisance, but it's the sort of thing that can happen with plumbing problems, and it's not the reason for my discontent with this situation.
Within 2 or 3 weeks after the repair, it started leaking again at one end of the added pipe. The new leak was really bad. It was so vigorous that it eroded the soil above the leak. We had replanted the flower bed on this end, so we had to dig everything up again so they could repair the new leak. They were prompt and courteous about the call back and repaired it quickly. We waited a couple of weeks to make sure it was repaired this time, and then we replanted the flower bed. A week later, the leak returned. Not so vigorous this time, but still a pretty bad leak. They were, again, prompt about getting out to fix the leak. They weren't quite so courteous this time, however. They told me that there would be a service charge if the leak was in a location they had not been involved with before, inferring that I might be crying "wolf" or not know what I was talking about. As suspected, the leak was a broken fitting that they had installed. They repaired it with stronger fittings and the leak has not returned for several months now.
We had to dig up the flower bed three times throughout this process. Several of the plants died as a result. In addition, some other bushes drowned and died as a result of being exposed to too much water from the second and third leaks.
"My assistant has left a message for [member name removed] to discuss this at greater length and see what we can do to change his opinion of Dalworth. We were unaware of his dissatisfaction until now and look forward to talking to him. Plumbing challenges can at times be somewhat ambiguous as this case certainly proved to be, which was aggravated by a shallow water line that developed the initial leak and had flower beds planted on top. We realized the urgency of the matter each time we were contacted and we were very swift in scheduling each time. Dalworth Plumbing warrantied the work and we stood by that warranty, and still do to this day. We sincerely value each and every customer and strive to provide the best quality service and utmost in professionalism. The complicated situation that [member name removed] experienced rarely happens, and we are sorry when any of our customers are disadvantaged because of a plumbing challenge. However, we are committed to doing everything possible to get them moving forward again, which is what I feel we did in this particular case. Wyman C. Smith, Sr."
