Started the process of purchasing a home in the Bedford area and since it
was an acquaintance, we didn't use a realtor.
The Seller had used this title company to purchase the house from his
father so he felt comfortable staying with them.  It should be noted
that when he purchased it from his father, he went with a conventional
loan.
We agreed and began the process.  We were going with an FHA
loan and the man helping us, Ken, immediately explained that he
was unfamiliar with FHA loans. (should have stopped things here.)
Over the next 3 to 4 weeks, our loan office with Wells Fargo had a horrible time
trying to get this man to understand exactly what was needed.  Our close date
was pushed back and when we finally went to close, it took 2 and a half hours.
The paperwork the Seller and myself needed to sign was full of errors and
multiple pages had to be reprinted.  Ken was unclear about the
instructions my loan officer had given him and at the end of the
signing, he had drawn up a legal contract for myself and the seller to
sign.  It supposedly was needed to relinquish Ken of any
responsibilities.  When I refused to sign it without speaking to my loan
officer, Ken explained that he would not release the funds until he had
straightened things out.  What needed straightening out, is beyond me.
During the entire ordeal that night and even previously on the phone,
Ken was being extremely biased towards the Seller, even though he was an
independent third party that had no reason to be.  He was extremely difficult to work
with and in no way would I ever suggest anyone using this title company for anything.
