We are still wrestling with Mr. Beam to correct a long list of issues for our house on the beach in Galveston. This has been going on for 2 years. I have been hesitant to write, but, at this point I feel there is not a lot to lose.
Let's start with the doors. The house is 10 years old and receives a lot of abuse from the elements on the beach. The original doors were sliders and we wanted to replace them (after spending several hundred dollars having them repaired by others). We decided with input from Mr. Beam to do french doors, in our case one fixed an done operable. When he ordered them he did so incorrectly where both were operable. Not good on the beach because of the wind. He had them reworked and they were warped and rain literally just blew through. He tried to repair them but could not. We had to go through the reseller of the doors to get a refund for the doors. The doors are still in place.
The trim work around the doors is of terrible quality. He sent a young person to paint the trim and it is primer only and just awful. Mr. Beam beleives it is just fine. Oh, and the stainless steel hardware we paid for was not stainless steel. I believe he correct this, but, it should not have occured in the first place.
This same job we had him paint the outside of the house. He suggested an additive from NASA to help with energy conservation for $300. Sure we said. When it went on it was a different white than another part of our house. He said it was not possible to color match. We insisted and he acquiesced. But, it was a fight.
His painters painted EVERYTHING. The light fixtures, the stainless steel chimney, items that were never painted and are never meant to be painted. 10 mionths later the paint has peeled off and bubbled* and it is not possible to get him to own the repainting. He did a sample touch up this fall (8 months ago) and said he was working near by, but, never showed up to repaint the house. The sample re-paint has held up nicely (it is brushed on, not sprayed as the orginal was), if we could get him to actually finish the job it would be great.
* we painted the vinyl siding on the house; it was a medium tan and we painted it white - which is advisable by paint manufacturers.
We suggested that he give us a refund of $3,000 (this is REALLY reasonable). He said he does not have that kind of money. We are deciding on our options.
Thank you.

. I really like this guy. He showed up within an hour and half of me calling him, and he had to travel 30 miles to get here because he is currently in Baytown which 30 miles from here. A lawn mower company had taken a big chunk out of my siding of my house with their lawn mower. That left a noticeable area on the siding that was gone. My husband did not know about this. I had hired this lawn mower service against my husband’s wishes. When they were gone I noticed this place. I had to figure out a way to fix before my husband noticed it. I called MrBeam, I just happened to have his card here. He came out within an hour and half or so, maybe even less and he patched it up. If you are not looking for the spot you would not find it. He is sweetest guy. He has gone the extra mile to help. He is kind and he has helped me out. He got here quickly which was important for me and he did it for less than a $100. As for quality it is not a perfect patch job but it is adequate. You have to go looking for it. My husband has not noticed anything. As for his service, his attitude, his willingness to do the job is very good. I will use his services in the future.

I wanted to replace my hardy plank siding on my home and hired Affordable Siding to do the work. I fired them very early on in the project, as they did not know what they were doing. Two men who never put siding on before came and started to work; they didn t even remove the old siding and started putting the new siding on top of it. I had to call the supervisor about the work, he hadn t returned after dropping the materials off and he fired the men, but wanted more money to remove the old siding. I continued to call the company to get some results; the contractor wouldn t call back and finally sent me a letter voiding our contract. The garage had one side of it sided on top of the old siding and I was out 2500 dollars.
Response from AFFORDABLE SIDING
"I entered in to a contract which included the following provisions. Any alterations or additions to said contract shall be upon written order only and shall be at an extra charge. My client and my sub contractor decided to alter the contract. I met with my client and explained the above to no avail. He refused to listen to me or adhere to the contract. The materials were delivered to his residence. I left them there and under advisement of my attorney I sent my client a certified letter of a breach of contract."

They came out and replaced my roof and they did a great job. It only took them two days and I have a very large roof. They never left a mess and were always very professional and courteous. My neighbor referred them to me after seeing them do an amazing job on their house.

THEY ARE VERY PROMPT IN RETURNING PHONE CALLS AND GETTING TO THE JOB ON TIME. THEIR WORK WAS RELATIVELY GOOD, ALTHOUGH THE NEW SHEETROCK COULD HAVE BEEN FLOATED BETTER TO BLEND IN TO THE EXISTING WALL AND I THOUGHT SOME OF THE WORKERS WERE SOMEWHAT SLOPPY. THE WORKERS WERE ALL VERY COURTEOUS. FOR MOST JOBS, I WOULD USE THEM AGAIN BECAUSE THEY WERE ONE OF THE FEW COMPANIES WHO DIDNT THINK THE JOB WAS TOO SMALL AND FOR THE OTHER REASONS MENTIONED ABOVE. HOWEVER, IF YOU NEED FINE DETAIL CARPENTRY TYPE WORK, THIS IS NOT THE COMPANY FOR YOU.
