Affordable A/C & Heating

July 2017 OAT +101 (F) -one of my AC units stopped working. I called them at 3:30 P.M. Wed. and they tried to to help me that same day , but of course, with the temps in the 100's they were very busy with other emergencies. They got to me first thing the next day and had my A/C up and running within a few hours. Great service! Great communication! I would definitely recommend them. They will do all my future HVAC work.

These guys do good work, give good advice, and charge very competitive rates.

We have two units for our main floor and upstairs.  (We also have a master bedroom unit completely unrelated to this call)  When I called our home warranty I told them that one unit seemed to be working while the other was not.  We unplugged both units because the sound coming from the larger unit was terrible, and we thought it would ruin the motor.  As of when we unplugged one unit was working.
The tech came out and I explained the above to him.  He asked me to set the thermostats to 70.  I told him I needed to call my husband because it is computerized.
Within 7-10 minutes the computers were set.  He fixed the unit that I had described to him as not working.  While he was next to the units I said he should probably check the other one to make sure.  He said, "If i hook up my gauge, it will be another service charge."  I said, "never mind, it probably works."
When he finished with the original problem unit  it was indeed working.  He had changed the capacitor.  
I noticed that the other unit, though plugged in was not working.  I asked him about why the blade was not spinning.  He said it did not even click on, which it should have.  Meaning it was now not working.  I asked him to fix it, saying I would pay the other service charge.  He said he could not work on it without a work order and left.
I called the warranty company and the owner of Affordable AC.  After a long bit of explaining the warranty said they would send them back out.  The owner got upset with me for being angry, saying he wouldn't be spoken to that way.  I apologized for being upset and he began to lecture me.  Our house is at 89 degrees, and my level of patience is short.  He claims I said nothing was working and did not want to send any of his techs out to my home.  Only he would come out and he couldn't come out today.  This conversation went on for some time.  
These guys were so busy covering one another that they didn't want to hear the truth.
 Bottom line, even if the work order had only one unit on it--which the warrantly company said it had two--and the tech comes out and a unit is clearly not working, do you want them to walk away without fixing it?  He left knowing that our air still was not working.  
 He came out and fixed one unit and claimed he couldn't fix the other one without an additional work order and service charge.  He left knowing that the second unit wasn't working.  He lied to me at least three times while he was here. 
I called the owner who argued and lectured me because I was rude to him.  Yes, I was very angry, my house is hot and I did not get the AC fixed.  I
I will never let these guys near my home again, and I suggest you don't either.

They are wonderful!! It was so hot in here my 3 year old kept opening the fridge to cool off. They were here within an hour and fixed it right away. I highly recommend them.

Went very well. AACH came right out which was desperately needed since today's forecast is pretty high. Nice family run business, 3 generations. They were able to troubleshoot and fix it right away. Ii came out an easy fix with just needing the capacitor replaced. No charge for the service call. I will definitely use this business again for all my HVAC needs.

I have used AA/CH in the past. They have always been prompt, candid, and careful not to charge for nothing. I will definitely keep using them in the future.

They did a great job and were really helpful. They were on time and did the job in a timely manor. The owner even came out and gave me his number to call for any questions. They have great customer service.

The guy was just phenomenal.  We liked that when he came out, he did an assessment of what we needed.  He kind of laid it out for us and we had to do some things to replace another board on our a/c, rather than just saying that it would cost so much to get it.  He gave me options to see if we could find the part independently.  If we could then he would charge a minimal fee to come in and to put back into to make the a/c work correctly.  We did some things and he came in temporarily to make it work until we could find an a/c to replace it.  We called him that time and had him consider our a/c system back again.  We appreciated his honesty.  When he came in, he spent a good 45 minutes to figure out what the issue was.  He didn't even charge us for the service because he couldn't fix it with what he had.  If it needs to be charged then he would have to order things.  They are doing best for the people in this economy get what they want to get.

Looked at mini-split for less than 10 minutes and didn't have the correct size fitting for his gauges. However he did offer a diagnosis that the unit would need an expensive part to repair it that would probably cost about $500. He offered a $100-off certificate for our next call and did not charge for the call. I then found a different serviceman through a friend who came and checked the unit and it turned out to just need refrigerant. This other service man spent extra time making sure there were no leaks and explained that when these mini-splits operate in heat pump mode, they have higher pressure in the indoor unit so any tiny leak is more likely to let some of the refrigerant escape (as it did over a period of several years). I waited to write this review to be sure the added refrigerant really did repair the unit and it has now worked perfectly for a month.

The installation went well. They put in a smaller unit after checking our square footage and insulation rating in attic and the type of windows we have installed. They said our current unit was larger than what was needed and keeping the same size would end up causing the unit to recycling more (cut on/off), thus causing more wear and tear on unit and electrical costs.  It was our choice as to what size we wanted installed. We went with smaller unit and it works great and saved us $$$ by going down in size.. We were also told if we are not satisfied with the unit within one year, we could change it out for the larger unit.  We had some issues with the cleanup (this was a new crew). I called and they sent a supervisor out and the mess was cleaned up. He also checked the work that was done on the installation.  After having the unit for several weeks they did an follow up call to check to make sure the unit was working properly for us and inspect the unit. Great having the follow up and customer service. This is a great company with excellent service and also looking at saving money for the customer.

We have used Affordable Air twice. We had a new unit installed in May of 2011, after the wonderful experience we had with Sam we knew immediately who we would call for our system when we had to rebuild our home. Sam is patient, ON TIME, and very honest, even if the honest answer will be less expensive. I would use Sam and Affordable A/C again in an instant.

I always like to write a review for service providers who will honestly tell you when you don't need the work done.  Sam gave us fantastic service -- and didn't make a cent!  He drove up from Bastrop -- which is pretty far away -- to look at a house where we were thinking of installing central A/C.  He explained all of our options to us -- the advantages and disadvantages of mini "split" ductless air conditioners, how we'd run the ductwork for a central A/C, how we could upgrade our window units to more powerful and energy-efficient window heat pumps, etc.  But because our house is difficult to adapt to central A/C (and because of the way we use our space) the best option for us was the beefed-up window units, which he doesn't handle.  Even so, he gave us great advice on what size and brand to buy.  All we need is a carpenter!Even though Sam didn't ultimately do the work for us, I could tell he'd be good to work with.  He was knowledgable, he gave our project a lot of thought and he carefully discussed the options with us. He's on speed-dial if we need A/C in the future.

Affordable took time to find a parts supplier to honor the warranty to a system.  This was not a small undertaking.  They were prepared to install the same day they located the part. I appreciate the promptness of response, detailed answers to questions and courteous employees.

Affordable A/C & Heating did find a couple of problems that needed to be fixed and they did full maintenance on both units.However, they missed a problem in one of the units which required me to hire another company just one month later to do the final fix on the A/C unit.

Great company to deal with. They did what they said they would do, when they said they would, how they said they would. They cleaned up after themselves and didn't have any problem answering the thousands of questions I had. Sam is a great guy to work with and follows through on his promises. Huge plus with a company like this....I never have a problem getting someone to answer the phone. No voicemail tag here.

The service call went very well. They were punctual and courteous in scheduling the call as well as performing the service. They found a couple of minor flaws in my system that the builder did not take care of. Overall, I would recommend this company.

Went very well. They showed up on time, diagnosed the problems and fixed it immediatley. They never asked for any money until the job was 100% complete and I was satisfied. They have gone back to check on work and make a few modifications without any charge. I will use them for every job I get.

The technician was very professional and competent. He wasted no time in getting started and gave my two units a better checkout than I expected, including several minutes in the attic on a very hot day. After his preliminary survey he gave me a thorough and understandable report of the condition of my system and the recommended repairs. With my approval of the estimate, he added three pounds of refrigerant and cleaned the condensors of both units and showed me the improvement in head pressures and cooling. I would use this company anytime I need service.

We contacted Sam Hughston at recommendation of another contractor; when our air conditioning system broke down.Sam was very prompt in responding and was able to get workers out to our house within 2 days. He called each step of the way to let us know what to expect and when. Sam discussed with us a number of options with respective costs. Roy and Issac were the two technicians who completed the installation. Both were very professional and efficient. The next day, we received a call from Sam to follow-up and make sure everything was working to our satisfaction.

They were on time and got the job done in a timely manner. They did the job and shortly afterward I had a house fire so they came back and did the job again. I would highly recommend them they are a great company.
