Michael and Judy are the ultimate team! They accomplished the near-impossible task of completing a re-fi and a new loan in a very short window. Responsiveness, follow up and attention to the smallest detail is their superpower. This is not our first time working with them and we have never been disappointed. My Realtor had given me the name of a different Mortgage Broker to use (not Westwind) -- but I was not happy with the vibe, response time, or security protocols of the that broker. So I  turned to Angie's List to research alternatives and found Westwind Mortgage and I was immediately impressed by their stellar reviews. After my first phone call with Michael Llewellyn, I knew that I had found the right person to service my loan. Westwind is a small team of only 2 people Michael and his equally wonderful team member, Judy. Michael has been working in the Mortgage industry for several decades. He was extremely thorough and answered all my questions. I appreciate that he takes security seriously, and has implemented common sense best practices, and several levels of data security to protect the personal information that Westwind collects. Michael gave me excellent suggestions for quality affordable home insurance coverage in the area, and also scheduled the home appraisal. Judy and Michael navigated the new TRID lending laws flawlessly -- these new regulations became effective in October 2015, and have many lenders shaking in their boots because forms used in the lending process changed drastically and the laws put tight restrictions on when/how loan paperwork gets revised. Michael and Judy ensured that our loan was processed with no problems, and of course, the home closed on time. I also appreciate that Michael was available whenever I needed him -- I could call him weekends or evenings, meet with him in person at his office (not all lenders will meet with a client in-person anymore!), and I could get a prequalification letter at any time if I was ready to make an offer on a home. My favorite part was that Michael attended the closing appointment in-person, too -- this is a very important component to making sure that the lender gets the paperwork processed exactly right for the purposes of the loan. If the Mortgage Broker is not in attendance, then it is up to the Title Company representative to make sure that all the lending paperwork is processed correctly -- I think it is just better to have the Mortgage Broker there since they are so intimately familiar with the paperwork, the new TRID regulations, and all the moving parts of purchasing a home. If I ever need another loan in the state of Texas in the future, I will definitely be using Westwind again.

We worked with Michael Llewellyn, one of the principals at West Wind.  From start to finish, the experience was outstanding.  Since Michael is in Austin, and we are in San Antonio, I was a bit reluctant at first; however, after the first call, it was obvious that Michael had done this a million times before.  He immediately put my mind at ease about being remote. Since he is very tech savvy (one of the first real estate/mortgage folk that understood privacy concerns around emailing documents back/forth in plaintext), we conducted our entire transaction electronically and via phone.
After selecting Michael over some of the major "brands" out there, he found us the best rate and fees that were as good as, or, in most cases, better than what we were seeing with the big names.
Although this is our fifth home purchase, I've never really groked what most of the mortgage process was.  Michael told us exactly what would happen, when it would happen, and most importantly, why a step was required.  Everything happened as he explained, and there were no surprises.
On the day of closing, Michael was "on standby" in case something came up at the title company and actually called me right at the end of our closing to make sure everything was on track.  After completing the closing, he told us he would call when the loan funded, and he did so.
In every case, Michael did what he said he would do.  He was only wrong one count: our closing costs were about $250 lower than he estimated---that's the closet estimate I've ever had!
Beyond being punctual, concise and the consummate professional, Michael is also a very nice guy---someone that I actually liked (which my wife can tell you is a miracle :))
All in all, I highly recommend Michael at West Wind.  This was---by far---the best mortgage experience we've every had.

I consider myself extremely lucky to meet Michael and work with Westwind mortgage for my home purchase.
He is very reliable, genuinely great person to communicate, easy to get hold of, not to mention very knowledgeable.
He also has a very sensitive radar to catch any potential issues for loan process and knows how to fix them for the perfect  result.
He knows where to get the best deal in terms of rate and fees (his closing estimation was about $2,000 less than other guys in town, I know because I shopped around). According to the title officer who closed my purchase, he is the one of the few mortgage brokers who sit down at the closing table with the buyer. He was there for me making sure all the documents were in order and I was signing the documents with full understanding of what they were for. It has been a great experience to have someone who was truly on your side during this process, and I'd recommend him to my family and friends!

I was initially working with a mortgage broker my real estate agent recommended and I contacted Michael in order to obtain a competing offer as part of my due diligence.   Michael's rates were comparable with the other brokerage firm, but was able to provide a lender credit which zeroed out my closing costs.  I was very skeptical as a first time home buyer and followed up with Michael on more than a few occasions.  Michael was very patient, answered all my questions, and was able to set my mind at ease.  I was comfortable with the loan terms and considered the terms to be acceptable.  Michael let me know that if there were any changes in the bond market we may have an opportunity to renegotiate with the lender as we got within 15 days of closing.  Again, I was a bit skeptical.  The bond market began to fluctuate and Michael called to let me know I was able to shave another quarter percent off the agreed upon rate. 
Long story short, we closed on time at a rate well under what I would have received with other brokers. 
Michael exceeded all my expectations.

I've used Michael (Westwind Mortgage LLC) as my mortgage broker for my recent home financing and he's definitely one of the most professional brokers I've worked with.
The loan process, in itself, can be a tremendous pain, but it's good to have a friend on your side... he definitely fits the bill.
He gave me a very good comparison of various loan terms.
He's honest in that he actually suggested I compare his home loan rate against competitors.
He was very thorough but also very fast.
Though we had a closing condition to close pretty quick, we received the final approval on the loan two weeks prior to the closing date!
I'd recommend Michael to anyone looking for a great service and great loan rate on your next home purchase or refinance....you won't find a better experience!
I would even rate him A+ in all aspects if that was a given option.

Michael and his team were extremely helpful with our refinance.  Michael took the time to actually talk to us about our options and explained the pros and cons for each one.  He was able to take us through the mortgage industry lingo and mountains of paperwork with no stress.  He always kept us informed of what to expect next in the process.  It was nice to work with someone who is professional and competent, yet could relate to you on a personal level.  I think customer service is a dying concept in our world today, but it was wonderful to see that it still exists in some places.  I would recommend Westwind Mortgage to anyone, especially a first time home buyer, since Michael can explain things in easy to understand terms.

We wanted to explore refinancing our mortgage, determining cost versus return, what options were available to us, and possibly going through the refinancing process.  Michael was patient in doing the research with me, and encouraged me to consider several options before making a final decision.  Once we began the paperwork, Michael kept us informed of the status of the process, touching base with us weekly.  The whole refinancing process was complete in about a month - smooth, stress free.  Michael even made arrangements for a mobile notary to come to our house with the papers for closing - no travel needed!

I am not in a position to describe how efficient and skillful Michael and his staff at Westwind are --- though that is very apparent in the other reviews below.  What I am able to say is how generous and helpful they are.  We turned to them after one of the big banks offered us a HARP2 refinance plan on our mortgage.  We needed to find out if there were more competitive rates and costs available.  Michael took a look around and quickly got back to us to tell us that the offer we already had was a good one and to take it.  I am sure there were ways a less honest broker could have tried to get our business, but Westwind is a class act.  We wouldn't hesitate to turn to them first the next time.

It went great.  This is my 3rd mortgage or re-fi with Westwind, and they have always been excellent in their service.  They dealt with cranky underwriters, helped with all of the new, crazy laws and rules for financing, and kept me informed.  They really went out of their way to make sure that the process was a smooth and simple as possible.  I really appreciated their desire to do everything electronically, and also their transparency in what deals they were able to get, what the costs and benefits were, and which one was the best deal for me.

My overall experience was excellent and the process went very smoothly.  I called Michael at Westwind Mortgage.  He scheduled a convenient time for me to come by and discuss the loan options with him.  I had to change my appointment times because of changes in my schedule and he was very accommodating and worked me into his schedule.  I signed the initial application papers.  Michael was in contact with me every step of the process.  We got the appraisal done and then scheduled the closing.  Everything went very smoothly and I now have a better rate (below 3%) and will make significant progress in paying off my mortgage.

I'm old enough to know not to believe everything I read, especially on the internet but the reviews for Westwind Mortgage read genuine  to me.  I thought I had nothing to lose by calling them. Michael  Llewellyn returned my call and I told him what I was looking for as well as possible obstacles, I had a prior bankruptcy. He explained the process and approximate costs upfront. He answered all my questions, even repeated information I had forgotten.  I never felt stupid or as if I was intruding or asking for a favor. I felt like a valued customer. I have bought and/or re-financed a total of seven times over the last 30 years and this is the first time I actually understood what I was getting and  I was signing. the papers with complete confidence.  Michael kept me informed throughout the process. One of the benefits I enjoy is that my co-workers were bragging about the interest rate they had gotten and I had been declined by my original mortgage company a few months ago. Michael not only got me approved but beat their rate.  I've worked hard to repair my credit and Michael not only understood that he validated it with the great rate. Now I'm the one with bragging rights. I know there are companies who claim no closing costs but I believe you never get something for nothing. Michael understands what he is selling is service and the value of that service.   I have already referred a co-worker to him and would tell anyone to give him a call. He doesn't give miracles but he does give you value for your money.

  • It worked out extrmely well.
  • - I am a first-time home buyer, and he was particularly reasurring and helpful in that light.
  • - I am a computer professional, and he was able to work well with my style: giving me information to help make decisions, giving me lists of the financials I needed to send him, reminding me of what I needed to provide (blush).
  • - He went over the full set of documents for the application, describing each one and going into any details I asked about. He was particularlly good with explaining and reconciling the Good Faith Estimates and similar numbers.
  • - There were complications near the end. He determined the conditions that would satisfy the lender and provided the wording for the needed contract amendment. He also developed a backup plan involving a couple of other documents.
  • - The complications delayed closing.  He rammed the approvals through the lender in a few days, also communicating with the seller's agent, buyer's agent, and title company.
  • - He got me a better rate than one of my credit unions, and provided the numbers for several options.
