Vanwhy Construction

We had a very specific idea for our patio steps and received a quote from Jeff along with two other companies.  He was very responsive with our follow-up questions.  Jeff's bid was right in the middle and we looked at his photos online to see the quality of his work.  It was impressive and we felt very comfortable with our decision.  The final product was exactly what we wanted (we showed him a computer rendering) and the cut/color of the stone matched our retaining wall exactly as we requested. 

Mr. VanWhy was responsive relative to other contractors we contacted.  In addition, his price was in line to 10-20% below that of other quotes we received.  My issue was the thoroughness and quality with which the work was performed.  Mr. VanWhy's team ground out the old mortar and replaced it for the areas in need of repair.  However, they failed to repair all areas of concern, even after I pointed these areas out to them before the work began. At the end of the day, they asked me to walk around the house and inspect the work.  When I pointed out the areas they had missed, they literally walked around with handfuls of mortar and "patted" it on the areas that I pointed out to them.  Needless to say, this is not a proper repair technique, and the joints in those areas have since failed again.  I will say that I am pleased with the installation of the vents.  Those turned out well, and the work was of high quality.  
Overall, I will not be using VanWhy in the future.  While the price is fair, the work is of average to poor quality.

I contacted Jeff Vanwhy initially regarding the mortar repair, and asked him if he could tile a porch as well.  He recommended the cut limestone and sent pictures. We decided to take his recommendation, and I have to say the porches look terrific and made a tremendous improvement in the look of our home.  He and his crew showed were very responsive and pleasant to work with.  One of the stones on the front porch became a bit loose after a week and we called Jeff.  He immediately scheduled someone to come and take care of it.  The mortar repair was excellent as well, with the mortar beautifully matched to the existing mortar.  Overall, it was a great job done at a reasonable price.  We get lots of compliments on the porches.

Mr. Vanwhy met with me and suggested the color of stone(s) that would compliment the brick on my home. He brought samples the next day for my approval and set the date to begin. He and his team showed up on time and worked quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up afterwards and made sure the results were exactly what I wanted. I am very pleased with the results. He even came by after it rained to make sure the water was running away from the corner of the walkway that had been accumulating water. I have had a problem with water flow from heavy rain seeping into one side of the house, and after I have that side of the house replaced with new siding, I will call this provider again to divert the water flow in a nice, decorative way.
