What I paid was voluntary, in good faith, because a portion of the work had been completed. The doors were good. $50 was a minimum charge for my time scraping the mismatched texture with primer on it that Charles wouldn't fix. It was a day's work. Chalres isn't being truthful about so much in his response. Any trips Charles made were because he would only stay a couple of hours. I agreed to have it brushed only if I didn't see brush marks. He assured me. The brush marks were very visible after they dried. That's why his bid to me stated "sprayed" I wanted them sprayed. He had a 12-foot ladder only to paint trim that was 20' high. Where were all these ladders he was referring to? What do you do when someone comes unprepared? Also, any resanding was due to the painter not adequately filling and sanding nail holes. Nothing at all was said about dog hairs. I had done so much of the work already on the doors to prepare them. They had to do so little. They also got paint on the brand new hinges and didn't offer to clean them. I cut so much slack that I shouldn't have had to.
"I'm sorry you are unhappy, but please get your facts together. The orginal bid was for $625 (which I was not paid). I brought several ladders with me that we used. My painter did use one of your ladders that you offered so we could paint without using scaffolding. You told us several times that brushing the trim around the windows was ok since they were so high and it would be hard to mask everything that you wanted masked. Everyday when he finished he asked if you were satisfied and you said yes. I guess the satisfaction ended when it was time to pay. He made 4 trips to sand and repaint trying to please you. All nail holes that did not get completely filled were filled with bondo and sanded completely smooth on the second coat or third coat. We even sanded and repainted after complaints of dog hair that had settled in the paint. He painted some of the exterior trim at no cost and removed the weather stripping and painted behind it. The paint on the doors and trim is almost as smooth as automotive paint so I'm not sure what you are unhappy about. As far as the drywall patches you have to texture over part of the old texture in order to blend it. I will admit that 1 of 3 patches did not match as well as it could have, but you scrapped it off before I could fix it. Once I realized that I would probably never get paid I decided not to waste my time. I know that I am at least the second contractor to fall for this since I was there to "fix" a bad paint job that had already been sanded off. My employees do excellent work and I will put the painter that painted this house against anyone."
