Tuttle Contracting

Hurricane Lili damaged my roof in Oct 2002. Tuttle Roofing (from out of state) saw the damage and solicited my business. They measured my roof and claimed that the square footage was larger than estimated by a local roofer. The salesman agreed to do it for the smaller area estimate. He drew up a firm price and we signed the papers. When the shingles came up short, he had to go get more and charged me the difference ($400). When I asked him about the discrepancy, he said that he had hoped the other roofing company was right and his estimate was wrong. I don't believe him to this day. He had this planned out. He also stated that without this extra payment, he would not give me a receipt for the job being complete. Without this, My insurance company would not pay me an extra stipend for having a COMPLETE roof job. I believe he knew this. My insurance rep came back out and remeasured. The origional measurement was correct. He told me in private that he knew the salesman lied to me. Salesmen also stated that a Tuttle office would be in town for the length of the labor warranty (2 yrs). But when the last roof in the area was finished, the phone number was disconnected (office gone). I know this because they did my sister's roof and hers leaked after a month or so. When we tried to contact them locally, they were gone. My roof and my sister's look great and mine never leaked. The work was done quickly and with evidently good workmanship and materials. One leak is understandable, but a vanishing office is not. I don't have a problem with their work, just their ethics.
