PS Just walking through the grounds of Ted's Trees is delightful. A friend recommended them, based on her good experience.
Ted's has a great selection of trees of all sizes. I was very happy to find a tree that would look established from day 1. I was impressed with the installation guys. I'm east of 35 and don't have a lot of rock in the ground. They dug the hole -- 4' deep and 6' diameter -- with shovels in about and hour and they quite skillfully tilted the tree to get it under the power/cable lines (the tree was lifted by a crane-like contraption). And the guys got the tree level and lined up nicely.
The tree has been in for 6 months now and it is looking great.
"We have gone through of records for Nov. 2013 and we have no record of a customer by this name or address. Once an invoice is paid we schedule work within a 1 week time frame. The only time it's longer than 7 days is if a customer requests a date due to building/moving/etc."
Also requested they pickup and spread some high grade compost in the yard. What I ended with was city low-end, human waste (called Alamo compost i think) compost and it was poorly spread through out my yard. They actually ran out before finishing the yard and didn't offer to complete it. I'm still trying to knock down clumps of this stuff that was piled too high or just hard to break down clumps. I know what it's called b/c I asked it's name and where it came from. That must have triggered a conscious in them b/c they called back saying they overcharged me for it. Would they do that if I didn't have the ability to check up on what the product was? Don't think so.
"We don't tend to do work in San Antonio and without a valid first and last name there is no way to verify this is even a customer of ours. However, we don't use cheap product."
The install service was excellent. Ted's sent 5 guys to install the trees and had everything done in one afternoon. I was there to meet the crew, we agreed on placement and I left. When I came back the trees were in their holes, in exactly the right positions, backfilled with mulch that was properly shaped to retain water, and carefully staked. The work area was clean and there was no trace of them having been there.
The only hiccup was that we had to keep rescheduling the install due to rain, and the crew showed up unplanned. But, whatever. That was a function of multiple reschedulings. Up to that point they had done a good job of proactively staying in contact with me to coordinate the job.
This is a locally owned business with excellent prices, better product than the chains and solid install services. I will use them again.
Ted's crew did a very professional job of planting the two trees in our backyard, in very rocky ground, and including
installation of stakes and raised watering collar around the trees. Ted also gave regular care suggestions on feeding and watering of the trees. Price did seem high but Ok with the quality service and aftercare.
