My renters reported that a number of outlets and the garbage disposal in the kitchen and one of the front house lights were not working. I called this company and they scheduled a service call for the next day. The dispatcher person I spoke with was extremely helpful and no-nonsense. They gave a window of 2-5 pm, and the electrician arrived EXACTLY at 2pm which is great. He said that he would have to do a diagnostic which would run $229. This seems a little high but I did not shop it around to compare what other companies charge. It turned out that it was just a stuck GFCI switch that needed to be reset in the kitchen, and then the repair of the light connection. The garbage disposal was found to be a plumbing issue, not an electrical issue. Total time this took was about 40 minutes. The electrician (Aaron) was extremely professional and helpful. I was able to pay the bill over the phone, and the person who processed my payment (Becky in the Houston office) was very professional and I did not have to repeat any information at all. A very good experience, and although I feel that the flat fee of $229 for what ended up being needed was a little steep, I would definitely use this company again. Very professional and no nonsense.

Upon arriving home and inspecting their work, I was upset to find that they had changed the plug on my dryer to the outdated 3 prong type instead of upgrading our new (resale) home's old 3 prong outlet with an up-to-code 4 prong outlet as I had requested they do. I immediately called On Time- it was after 5 pm- and informed them of their mistake after forewarning them I was quite upset. I would say whoever handled the call did a great job- she pointed out that THEIR records showed they performed the work I requested, but wasted no time being confrontational and assured me they would have the technician out within the next two days to put the 4 prong plug back on our dryer, and change out the wall outlet. The technician (re)did the work cheerfully and precisely and I was not charged for their mistake. I will add however, that replacing a plug on a dryer is very simple and inexpensive to do and that I would personally never pay $149 for that service.

"IS IT TOO MUCH TO CHARGE $149.00 DRYER OUTLET? LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT GOES INTO THIS "SIMPLE" JOB. FIRST, THE ELECTRICIAN MUST HAVE 8000 HOURS OF EXPERIENCE PLUS A STATE LICENSE THAT HE OR SHE PASSED AND EXAM FOR. SECOND, THE COST OF BRINGING A "STORE" TO YOUR HOME, FUEL, VEHICULAR INSURANCE, INVENTORY,AND LETS NOT FOR GET THE EXPENSE OF ANGIE'S LIST AD, TAXES, GENERAL LIABILITY INSURANCE, WORKERS COMP. INSURANCE, AS WELL AS OPERATING EXPENSES SUCH AS PHONES, ELECTRICITY LICENSE FEES JUST TO MENTION A FEW. THIRD. NOW YOU WOULD PERSONALLY NEVER PAY $ 149.00 TO HAVE A DRYER OUTLET INSTALLED. WOULD YOU DO IT YOURSELF? ARE YOU LICENSED AS REQUIRED BY LAW, WOULD YOU HAVE AN UNLICENSED ELECTRICIAN DO THE WORK? PERHAPS YOU WOULD HAVE A HOME CENTER DO IT,DO YOU KNOW THEY CHARGE $35-$99 FOR THE ESTIMATE. A PRICE OF $ 149.00 IS INCREDIBLY LOW FOR THE VALUE YOU RECEIVED, BUT YOU APPEAR TO BE ONE OF THOSE THAT THINKS THEY ARE "OWED" SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. WHOM DO YOU WORK FOR EXXON?, A HOSPITAL THAT CHARGES $ 49.00 FOR A SINGLE 300MG TYLENOL? PERHAPS YOU WORK FOR AN INSURANCE COMPANY THAT GOUGES EVERY SMALL BUSINESS SUCH AS OURS. MAYBE YOUR AN ATTORNEY, DID YOU KNOW PRACTICING LAW WITHOUT A LICENSE IS A CRIME, WELL SAME GOES FOR DOING ELECTRICAL WORK WITHOUT PROPER LICENSE AND INSURANCE. YOU TYPIFY THE TYPE OF CUSTOMER WE DO NOT WANT. THAT IS ONE WHO DEMANDS 15 ESTIMATES ON A $200.00 JOB, COSTING THOSE COMPANIES OVER $500.00 IN FUEL, $800.00 IN LABOR, AND ADDITIONAL COSTS. NOT TO MENTION THE DAMAGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT THAT THAT TYPE OF SELFISH BEHAVIOR BRINGS UPON US ALL. PLEASE CALL SOME ONE ELSE FOR YOUR WORK. WE DO NOT WHAT YOU AS A CUSTOMER."

NO SHOW! Job was scheduled by "Justin." No one showed or bothered to call on the afternoon discussed for an estimate. Seeing there willingness to waste my time, I did not bother to call back and ask why; will move on to another Angie's List recommended company.

"I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE WE MAY HAVE CAUSED YOU, HOWEVER OUR CALL TRANSCRIPTS SHOW NO APPOINTMENT BOOKED BY YOU. ONLY A STATEMENT THAT YOU WOULD CALL US BACK TO SCHEDULE WHEN YOU KNEW WHEN YOU WOULD BE AVAILABLE. WE DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL BACK. POSSIBLE YOU SCHEDULED WITH SOME ONE ELSE? WE DO NOT LEAVE OUR CUSTOMERS WAITING. I HAVE REVIEWED THE CALL TRANSCRIPTS AND SPOKEN WITH JUSTIN, AND WE NEVER RECEIVED YOUR CALL BACK. I AM SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION. IF WE CAN BE OF FURTHER ASSISTANCE LET ME KNOW. JOHN A. KARBOWSKI III CEO"

Will never use them. No work was performed. I had requested a quote over the phone and Becky (office manager) refused to give me one. She quoted a $59 trip charge and said the quote would be provided after a physical inspection. I informed her I knew what was required and that I had 3 other quotes from "A" grade Angie's List electricians. Becky finally said she would have a technician call me Tuesday afternoon/evening and quote me a price. Becky-it's Friday and I'm still waiting.
Response from SOUTHERN & ON-TIME ELECTRIC
"I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT GETTING BACK TO YOU. OUR POLICY IS NOT TO QUOTE OVER THE PHONE. FOR SOME VERY GOOD REASONS. FIRST, WE DO NOT KNOW THE WIRING OF YOUR HOME OR OFFICE. EVERY STRUCTURE IS WIRED DIFFERENTLY. SECOND, PRICING OVER THE PHONE IS AGAINST THE TDLR RULES FOR ELECTRICIANS, TO WITH, WE MUST PROVIDE OUR TDLR NUMBER AND THE LANGUAGE REQUIRED BY THE STATE ON ALL PROPOSALS. A LICENSED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR WOULD KNOW THIS RULE AND FURTHER WOULD NOT PRICE YOUR JOB WITHOUT FIRST HAVING LOOKED AT IT. WE SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED YOU WITH A "BALLPARK" AND FOR THAT I APOLOGIZE. THE PRICE MAY BE APPROX. $99.00 MORE OR LESS DEPENDING UPON MULTIPLE VARIABLES, TYPE OF WALL STRUCTURE, ACCESS, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY IF THE "EXISTING CIRCUIT" COULD HANDLE THE ADDITIONAL LOAD. ELECTRICAL PRICES OVER THE PHONE ARE UNRELIABLE, AND UNFAIR TO THE CUSTOMER, AND THE CONTRACTOR. ELECTRICAL WORK IS A SERIOUS CONSTRUCTION CONCERN. EXAMPLE: WHAT IS THE OUTLET FOR? WHAT IS THE LOAD TO BE SERVED? WHAT TYPE OF OUTLET ARE YOU SUGGESTING WE TAP? IS IT TO CODE TO TAP THAT OUTLET? WHAT TYPE OF WIRING IS EXISTING, IS IT TW OR VARNISHED CAMBRIC? COULD THE ADDED LOAD CAUSE A FAULT OR OVERLOAD THE CIRCUIT OR SYSTEM? IS THE "EXISTING OUTLET BOX" ADEQUATE BY CODE TO HAVE ADDITIONAL CONDUCTORS PLACED IN IT? AS YOU CAN SEE ELECTRICAL IS NOT THE SAME AS MANY SKILLED TRADES. IT REQUIRES PROPER A PROPER REVIEW TO INSURE A SAFE INSTALLATION. THAT IS WHY WE DO NOT QUOTE OVER THE PHONE."

Both on the phone assistance and technician were good at keeping me informed. The second day he had an emergency that made him late and I was called in advance to let me know when to expect him. He also called when he was on his way. I was initially disappointed in the service call cost of $198 when it didn't take him very long to figure out what the problem was. He did explain that whether it took him 5 hours or 20 minutes, that cost is the same and that most companies charge this fee. I still feel some of this should be applied to the cost of service if it's within a shorter window of time but I was very satisfied with his work and his communications during the service call and would say it was worth the cost for quality work and he was totally up front about the costs and estimates.

It went well - unfortunately, the technician was late because he had to handle an emergency, so it cost me a trip back to my place during my lunch hour, but the work was professionally completed and looks great. I am really happy with the results!

The tech was Jeff Gray. He arrived on time. Found the photocell at the front light to be bad and bypassed it. He noticed that the lights started to blink once in a while so he changed the wire nut? and it worked fine. Luckily he saw it, because I would not have noticed it.

Max called me to let me know he was on his way to the job. He arrived during the scheduled time window for the job. He was very courteous and used shoe protectors to minimize bringing any dirt into my home. When the job was finished, he even vacuumed the dining room area. He was meticulous in doing the job well and worked with me to assure the chandelier height given the length of the ceiling chain was exactly what I wanted. The job was well done and finished in a reasonable period of time. I received a 10% Angie's List discount (full price was $200.) I would definitely use this service for future needs. Before Max left, he noticed that one of my spotlights was "unclipped." He took the time to fix it and show me what to do if it came loose again. I was very impressed with the level of service and felt quite comfortable having Max in my home.

The technician that came to my house was Jeff Gray, and he was wonderful, he worked in my attic which is extremely hot and he never complained. He was very honest and did some extra job around the house for no charge. He had been here before to change switches and install fixtures.

For my first appointment, the technician was running late and made a number of calls to me explaining the delay until, finally, we decided to re-schedule. The new appointment went smoothly. The On-Time Electric technicians were friendly and knowledgeable. They completed their work with little interruption or interference (I often work from home) in about two hours. They showed me the estimate up front, and I was a little surprised by the cost, but we just wanted to get the project completed. I did, however, receive a small discount since the previous technician had to cancel. Overall, I was very pleased with their work, and we are very happy with the new lighting!

It went well. He was punctual and thorough. I had to run an errand prior to his arrival, and he had 95% of everything handled by the time I returned an hour later. He handled a fairly general request quite professionally. He was a clear thinking and competent electrician. His pricing on the general socket repairs was pretty reasonable. The pricing quoted for replacing the three-way switches ($100 a piece), though probably fair was much higher than I wanted to pay. So, we decided to live with the last issue. As I said earlier, he coached us on how to avoid the issue. That was appreciated.

The service man showed up on time and was very professional and courteous. Anytime he was in the house, he put on booties over his shoes so as not to track dirt through the house. He was efficient and it seemed he knew what he was doing. I showed him the various questions/issues, and he then explained that there is a $195 assessment fee before any work is performed. He would then give an estimate on the various projects. He did the inspection and then gave me some advice on the track lighting and motion light (see above) and then gave a quote for the in-floor light and outdoor electrical outlet. He had all of the equipment necessary to finish the jobs, and everything was wrapped up within about 1 - 1.5 hours. I felt that the inspection fee was excessive, but the actual service fees were somewhat reasonable (not cheap but not outrageous). I am pleased with the results.

Technician Jeff Gray arrived on time, explained what the job involved and how much it would cost upfront. He did the work and cleared up afterwords, he did excellent work, we are highly satisfied and would recommend Jeff and his company to anyone requiring electrical work to be done. There is a $79 call out charge, this is if just an estimate is given or the work actually carried out. If the work is done, then the $79 is incorporated into the charge.

The technician arrived on time, looked at what needed to be done, and prepared an estimate to do the work. He then took approximately two hours to finish everything we wanted done. He completely and totally cleaned up the work areas to such an extent you would have not known he'd done any work.

We had a strange problem that On-Time ultimately diagnosed to be an added circuit incorrectly piggybacked on another circuit. They were able to fix the problem by using a specialty breaker that split the the two into 2 separately protected circuits. They were very punctual and professional.

Our overall experience with this company was wonderful. Their work is quoted based on a set price (their invoices have various categories - all with a predetermined price). When the price was quoted it was always stated that if the work failed to be as extensive as quoted they would charge us only for the work done - not a dime more. They showed up on time and were very knowledgeable and open to answering our myriad of questions. We also felt very good about the guarantee that the company provides on their work. After some bad experiences with independent contractors, it is refreshing to do business with an honest, reasonable company that has a network of offices that stand behind their work and promises.

I was extremely impressed with this company's processes, as I am a business owner myself. Their pricing was very straight forward and easy to understand, and their forms were very well-designed. They have also shown very good follow-up with customer service, sending a thank you card with a coupon for future work. I would definitely hire them again.
