PEP BOYS

I got my car back from a Pep Boys on 12/22/14 in Lafayette La and had my clutch master cylinder replaced.  A week later my car broke down when I was visiting family on 12/29/14.  I called the nearest Pep Boys which was in Austin, and had it towed there.  The same part I had just paid for to be fixed had broke again.  They took it in the shop on 1/1/14, and was told when I called that evening that they had just got it in the shop and was checking it.  Now 5 days later they still have not got it fixed.    I gave them all the info when I took the car in where I had it fixed and what they did.  They did not note that info and asked me for it again. I ended up filing a complaint with the corporate office.

They were great. They matched the price of some parts we found elsewhere plus an additional 5%.

This was my first time using Pep Boys for repairs. What a pleasant surprise. When getting the initial estimate, the counter rep was very helpful and friendly, even recommending I go online to get coupons. I came back a few days later for the repair. I ahd made an appt. online. The rep took my car in w/out problem. The repair was completed on the same day and, so far, everything seems to be done correctly.
The write up area could be a little cleaner and better organized. It was little confusing at checkout when I tried to apply all the coupons. There was little bit of confusion on the discounts when figured by the computer. But the asst. manager on duty took immediate care of the problem.
Overall, for the price and value, I was very satisfied with Pep Boys.

They diagnosed the problem and fixed it right away.

Car began running roughly and the "check engine soon" light displayed on the dash, so I stopped at a service station and checked all the fluids ect. When car was restarted, it ran but idled rough so my wife drove the approximate 1.5 miles to the Pep boys located on Research Boulevard. The mechanic said they would take a look at it. After 3.5 hours, they called my wife and said that we had a "plugged converter" and that we should take it to a muffler repair place. My wife went to pick it up but the car wouldn't even keep running once started and when she checked the coolant overflow, it was completely empty. I called the mechanic and asked them what they did to the car and he said, "We only ran an engine diagnostic, your converters plugged" I explianed that the car had been running albeit with a rough idle and now there was no coolant in the reseviour and it wouldn't run at all. He asked me what I wanted him to do and I said I wanted the car returned in at least the condition that they had recieved it. He said they couldn't do any thing about it since an engine diagnostic didn't have any thing to do with the coolant. I told him it certainly seemed magical that the coolant drained out and then the car refused to run immediately after they had worked on it and asked for my money back. They refused refunding of our money and I have made a complaint to the corporate office but haven't heard anything back.

The staff were very kind. When I asked for a oil change they listed three types: one with generic oil ($20), one with Pennzoil ($35 + $12 rebate) and the last with whatever oil I want. I received the Castrol GTX oil change and the $12 rebate anyway. They pushed the Pennzoil for its rebate but left out that the rebate was for the services regardless (only in January). My appt was at 4pm and my "oil change" wasn't done until 5:45 where I waited in the little area in the parts department. No one let me know if there was a problem slowing them down, I only saw 2 other cars during the entire time, many of the mechanics were sitting around when I showed up so I figured I would be in and out in a jiffy. Then after almost 2hrs they called to ask if I wanted to change my window wipers for an extra $20. I had changed them during the summer and they have worked fine so I declined. I could have ended up with a $60 oil change if I wasn't careful. Yes I am a female and do not know much about cars...still that is know reason to try to get extra money out of me. I can't go to a dealer I don't trust...kind as they are, they are all about sales.

I liked Pep Boys. They were very friendly and got my car in right away. We were very impressed how they tried to get us the best deal possible. They even gave us a coupon to use on our service. I will continue to take my vehicle to them.
