I made the call on Tues and had an appointment for an estimate on Thursday and moved on Saturday. Ilan really came through and assessed the situation for all possible scenarios. He made me feel like someone really cared about what we were going through. Ilan really stayed on top of the situation from start to finish and really put my heart at ease from beginning to end. He made notes to my file regarding my special needs and the particulars of my move. It was so reassuring when the movers showed up, Ilan took the time to personally walk them through the particulars a second time over the phone.
The guys came with two trucks and plenty of man power. It was a whirlwind move and the lines of communication were open and efficient from start to finish. It was truly a blessing to have NorthStar Moving Company in the Valley handle our move.
I'd recommend Ilan and his crew to anyone. The price was more than fair and the work was efficient and professional. Truly first rate service with heart.

I used Northstar and had some problems, so I wouldn?t use them again. First the good news: The movers were very careful with the furniture, and fewer things got damaged than usual. (You always lose something in a move, but this was way better than most.) The movers were also really nice and spent time moving the furniture and boxes just where my wife wanted them. On the downside, though, there were several big problems: (1) Northstar sent a truck that was too small, so they couldn?t get all of my things on the truck! And the problem wasn?t that I had a lot of stuff: My house was only 850 square feet, plus all the junk from a one-car garage, so that?s a move that should fit onto a moving truck. When they said they were leaving some of my things behind, I asked whether they?d come back to get them, but they said they?d have to charge me hourly plus double drive time. It seemed to me that they should have done it at their expense. After I complained to the office later on, they offered me $50 as compensation for the time me and my friends spent moving the rest of my stuff, and I bargained them up to $115 (one hour?s move time). But until I complained, they didn?t offer anything. (2) Even though we?d carefully packed things into standard sized moving boxes so that they could be moved in piles, the crew only brought one dolly. That meant that two of the three movers were carrying only one or two boxes by hand per trip instead of a full load, and that slowed down the move. (3) Relatedly, the move took longer than any other move I?ve done. When I moved into my old house with exactly the same amount of stuff, it took much less time than the move I did recently with Northstar. (4) I hired Northstar because they told me all the steps they?d take to protect hardwood floors, like putting down runners and Masonite, but in the end, they didn?t use any of those things. The floors didn?t get damaged, because the guys just carried everything by hand, but that might have slowed down the move too.
UPDATE: After my review went up, I got a personal apology from the CEO of NorthStar. It doesn't turn back time and fix everything but he clearly cares a whole lot about his customers, and that should matter to anyone picking a moving company. He seems like the kind of guy who will help you out if anything goes wrong.

I would like to amend that Wendy, from northstar, saw my review and took great effort to amend the issue regarding the gash on our wall. She sent us a refund check for what we had to pay to hAve the wall repaired. She was extremely courteous and professional. Our only real complaint was that the final invoice was almost double their original estimate. It took twice as many hours as they predicted, and they were working very hard and efficiently the entire time so I know we weren't unfairly overcharged. I think they just didn't ask enough probing questions during the initial quote to get a proper sense of the scale of the move.
In general, the experience was very pleasant and I would recommend them to anyone. Just make sure they have a good understanding of the quantity and character of your belongings beforehand.
They snapped into action in a way that other moving companies might not have done, and for that reason I accept the higher cost, but as a piece of advice, have someone from their team come to your house, do not book sight unseen.

A few scuffs on the walls, but the narrow stairwell was difficult for them to move the washer/dryer unit up the stairs - no complaints on that. And two small items broke in the move, but again, minimal and no complaints. Would definitely use again.
