Work went very well. I like the promptness in which Morningstar responded to my calls and emails, and their responsiveness to my requests to make minor changes to the plan. They showed up when they said they would. The hardscape looks very nice and we're pleased with the work.

If I could be in love with a service, I would be head-over-heels right now. I bought an older house that had a yard full of weeds and not a tree to its name. Jodi came out when she said she would, took a look, listened to what I had in mind and Voila! within a week my house with no curb appeal at all is a stand out on the street. Morningstar built a beautiful stone patio, put down gravel on the side, both decoration and water-directing. Planted two trees; replanted some plants the previous owner had stuck in the ground and it looks fabulous. Can't wait for them to come back out to powerwash the stone and seal it as the final touch.

Pavers and Hardscaping
We had a pavilion cover installed next to our pool for some shade, and needed someone to install a stone floor patio underneath. We researched several landscaping and mason companies but were impressed by the reviews about Morningtstar. Jodi came right over and looked at the site, gave us some ideas and sent us a formal bid. Her cost was very reasonable compared to others we consulted. They started a week later. The workers arrived every day early around 7:30 and did a fantastic job w/ the stonework as you can see from the pictures. They usually worked half a day and then would come back the next, it took them about 5 days to complete. Jodi communicates quickly by text, email and phone which I really appreciated. She is really great about advising what will and won't work and is upfront about the costs, and recommended using the Oklahoma stone which matched perfect w/ the old surrounding pool walk. We will definitely use her services again in the future b/c they were a pleasure to work with.

Our yard looks great! Jodi listened to what we wanted and then suggested plants and a yard layout that we hadn't thought of-- but really loved. It's great when a person 'gets' what you want as the big picture and then fills in the details. She was also responsive to our budget and worked with us to get something amazing that we could still afford. Good service after the work was done, too. She came out to look at things about a month after finishing because we were concerned that one of the trees wasn't doing well. She looked at the tree and was really nice about explaining that it was the Texas heat and that we should just wait- there were a few buds. She was right- the tree is now starting to do well. She also noticed that one of the small plants in one of the beds was sort of sad looking (a sedum that someone had stepped on) and came back to fix it. All of the people who worked on the yard were extremely nice. Jodi is also really funny. We are glad we found Morningstar on Angie's List.

It took 3-4 men 3 1/2 days to take out the old paver patio and build the new one. On day 1 they stacked the pavers out of the way for me to use in another project. They calculated the amount of slope for water drainage, used cube shaped stones for the "framing", put down a layer of sand, and placed rebar for reinforcement. Day 2 they finished the rebar and then mixed on site and poured 4" of concrete. The next day they mixed the morter and began setting the stones. Day 4 they finished laying the stones, including on the exposed edge on the lower end of the slope, and then filled in all the space between the stones with morter. They also layed 14 stepping stones, using thicker Oklahomaa stones. They dug out the sod for the stones and used morter on the bottom to set them. Five days later a lady came out to power wash the patio, and she came back the next day to seal the stones with a thick solution of something. I was able to put my three BBQ's and tables and chairs on the new patio the next day, in time for a family gathering for Labor Day weekend. Everyone was impressed!

Jodi (the owner of Monrningstar) is a pleasure to work with! From the beginning, she was so responsive and enthusiastic that I couldn't imagine not working with her. Of course, the price had to be right, and hers won out over a couple of others. Her estimate was very reasonable in comparison to others and the final project was close to the original estimate. She was quick to come over after our first contact. Her proposal was also very timely. The job took a little longer than expected. However, it probably just took about a week or two longer, not bad. The real delay was out of Jodi's control - we actually had a rainy couple of weeks this summer! Overall, the job was plenty timely. Jodi also cares about cleaning up the worksite as jobs progress and she seemed to remind her workers of this constantly. In the process of building the front steps, an area of grass was killed and on the last day, Jodi had the bare spots filled in with sod. The only thing I would have liked better about the whole process would be to have a little more discussion and perhaps drawing of the new steps. (this was the only reason I scored a B for professionalism - they actually handled the problem professionally) It was hard for me to envision them from discussion alone. During the process of building the stone rails, my husband and I didn't like the height of them. Jodi's workers were very responsive in trying to please us. They were able to cut them down by 8 inches or so and we all thought they looked better. That problem probably could have been avoided with a drawn plan. As it turned out, it only set them back by a few hours and they had a good attitude about making the change. One of the things I liked best about Jodi was that she was easy to reach through texting and emails. Also, the whole experience was quite personal and so much more pleasurable than working for a large landscaping firm. Overall, Morningstar did a fabulous job and our front and back yards look so much better!

My backyard of my new home was a desolate bare dirt patch when I moved in. Jodi turned it into a beautiful extension of my home. She offerred to do as little or as much of my projects as I wanted. She was so professional, flexible, and consistent that I asked her to complete it all. She installed a beautiful stone patio, landscape beds, sod as well as coordinated my other projects (irrigation system, arbor construction). It was nice to know that Jodi was taking in interest in how my project ended up and not just in selling me a patio. Yard looks beautiful and nice to know she lives fairly close. Thanks "neighbor".

Except for weather delays and a surprise about the previously-installed sprinkler piping, it went well. There were a few stops and restarts, partially due to not having a detailed written plan, but things that weren't quite right were rectified quickly. Overall, I'm very happy with the result despite a slight price overrun.

We bought a new home and faced a good challenge regarding the backyard. We are on a pretty intense slope with this little bitty slab of concrete for a patio, and thought, oh no, how would this work! We contacted Morningstar from the internet and Jodi responded within the day to come out. She did, took pictures, our plat plan, and came up with wonderful ideas to ensure proper drainage flow and explained how the patio would be extended. She emphasized to do a more kidney shape design and incorporate our grill and also a firepit. They also created bench seatings to give it more dimension and where my kids can go to sit and help grill. It made it a more intimate area for family time, and then opens up to the landscaping. She made the bed along the entire back fence with very cool native plants that i've never seen...whatever they are, they smell good too! Planted a corner butterfly area with a small bench, filled in the dog holes, and even went so far as the line the fence with pretty stones so he couldn't dig! She did not even charge us on that. Her crew were dressed in uniform and were extremely nice and cleannnnnnn. We are very happy with the choice of stone, price (as we had some up to 20,000), crew, work and will definately refer them more business. Thank you Jodi and the Guys!

Jodi met with us personally on several occasions to review the plan and make sure she understood our overall vision. She explained precisely what would be done and what materials would be used. She was very conscientious and particular about the stone to be installed in the walkway. She hand picked the stone to be used, making sure to get the best quality, large pieces with nice colors. The man that installed the stone hand-cut each piece. I was actually able to watch the process from my office window. He did an incredible job. He is a true craftsman. The flower bed is very nicely arranged with a good variety of plants designed to do well in the shady, yet very hot location of the bed. The sprinkler system is well designed and works great. The job was performed in a very professional, considerate and timely manner in what we believe to be a very good price.

"Being in the hospital does not put me in a good situation to do work, especially when I did not even give an estimate. Work was being performed by another company, not us and she was upset with them. I met, again on my day off. Told her the work done needed to be redone for proper drainage but we could not help at that point because she was under contract with another company. I called her after sge contacted ms at 9 at night and told her I was in the hospital and could not provide this service nor wait on the other company to redo , finish, whatever they were contracted to do. I'm sorry she was dissatisfied with them , but please do not take it out on us when we did not even provide an estimate but only tried to help. And I appreciated the understanding of my emergency surgery. Hope it works out for you and that co takes care of what you contracted them to do. J."

I contacted Morningstar because of the positive reviews on Angie's List. I had some basic ideas of what I wanted done, and Jodi helped it all come together. She prepared an estimate within a couple of days after our first meeting. Jodi picked out stone that matched the trim on my house and she and her crew did a great job of building the patios and edging the beds. The plants that she chose add a lot of color and should be heat and drought tolerant once they are established. When the job was completed the crew cleaned up the yard nicely. My yard looks great and I would recommend Morningstar Landscaping.

I ended up not going with them. I wanted one thing and they gave me an estimate for something completely different. They gave me an estimate for redoing a patio, which is what they specialize in. It wasn't what I was asking for. I had to contact them again. At least they responded which other companies didn't do. I was looking for apples and they were selling oranges.

"I met with the member and discussed many possibilities. I submitted a bid for what was discussed but did make very clear that for us to do a complete scaled CAD design, there would be a fee involved. That's when I did not hear back and and assumed he did not to pursue due to costs. Another issue I had was removing 2 trees that did not need it. One was a Bradford Pear in the front but away from home as to not be a threat anytime soon, and was/is in nice health. The other was a pretty peach in back which was in a great position ( in my opinion) and very happy. I ethically cannot remove healthy non- hazardous trees. Im sorry we could not assist you and charges are involved with a full plan design. But the consultation was free-- I came out on a weekend( day off) to accomodate, and submitted a bid for free as well. I was there a good 45 minutes. He has the cutest home in a cool part of Austin so I hope he found someone he liked to do the project. Again, to the member- sorry I could not be of more assistance and in agreement, but cannot spend more hours doing a design at no charge. I do though deduct that charge if a client goes with us. I met with Jodi from Morning Star Landscaping a few weeks ago, showed her my dismal front yard with dying bushes and shrubs, and asked her what she could suggest to make improvements. She was very friendly and professional and really knew her stuff. Within minutes, she was able to make several suggestions, and followed up a few days later with a detailed estimate. Although I initially considered just putting in a few new flowerbeds, I decided to go along with her suggestion of reforming and extending my patio with Oklahoma flagstone. Now I'm so glad I did - it looks gorgeous. The plants in the bed are so lovely and colorful. Jodi and her crew did a fantastic job and I highly recommend them to anyone. Whether you know exactly what you want, or, like me, need suggestions, Jodi is very easy to work with and seemed very knowledgeable. I am pleased with the outcome.

We can highly recommend Morningstar Landscaping. We worked with Jodi on the project design six months prior to the installation. She waited patiently until we were financially ready to commit to the project. When we gave the green light, she quickly came back to the site, provided an up to date estimate and worked with us to define a visually high impact plan within our budget. Jodi worked hard to find reasonably priced solutions that helped our budget. She provided quick service, professional installation and aesthetically pleasing design. She was extremely timely, communicated effectively about shifts in the schedule and her crew was neat. She paid close attention to the garden location and sun patterns, which resulted in appropriately changing the plant selections at the 11th hour. Minor issues of repairing some damaged lawn sections and removal of a large rock were resolved quickly and with no hesitation. We will use Morningstar again.

We were referred to Jodi by our patio contractor after our original landscaper fell through. She came out within a few days of my phone call for the consultation, and managed to work us into the schedule the next week due to a delay on another project she was working on. I enjoyed working with Jodi. She spent a lot of time understanding the type of plants and trees that I liked, and what we were hoping to do with our project. She sent me an estimate and project plan within 24 hours of our first meeting, and adjusted the plant list and scope of work to fit within our budget. We ordered 2 large shade trees, and she sent both of them back to the nursery when they arrived because she didn't like the way they looked. The nursery sent two different trees the next day, and they were perfect. Jodi and her team finished the entire project within 2 1/2 days, and left the year clean and beautiful. We are very pleased with the job she did, and would highly recommend her to everyone.
