"Advantage Metal Roofs served the Austin area for 10 years. In January of this year, our company, Green Knight Construction, Inc., purchased the assets of Advantage Metal Products Corporation (doing business as Advantage Metal Roofs). We did not buy the Advantage Metal Roofs company. We purchased their assets and the right to continue to use the name. When the [Member Name Removed]'s issue arose, we were made aware that prior company ownership did have a program in place allowing for the transfer of a workmanship warranty to a new homeowner, as long as the roof was re-inspected by the company and the new homeowner paid a minimal transfer fee. Everyone agrees that did not occur in this case. The specific terms of the asset purchase cannot be released. However, we can state that Advantage Metal Products was the company that offered the warranty, and they are no longer in business. Green Knight Construction, Inc., is under no legal obligation to honor any warranties offered by Advantage Metal Products. While we can understand that this may be frustrating, this is not very different from a residential real estate transaction. If you were to purchase a home, you would not be obligated to be responsible for the liabilities of the prior homeowner. Additionally, one might ask, "why won't Green Knight honor Advantage Metal Product's warranties?" While this may seem like a reasonable question, keep in mind that Green Knight has received no income from any of the roofs completed by Advantage Metal Products. We feel it would not be a prudent business decision to offer to cover potentially unlimited expenses, committed to by a different company, and for which we received no revenue. That said, in this case, when we were made aware of both sides of the issue, we informed Ms. [Member Name Removed] that, unfortunately, her roof was not under warranty but, in order to promote goodwill, we indicated we would make a one-time repair, at no cost, even though we had no legal obligation to do so. The repair was made and Ms. [Member Name Removed] gave us every indication that she was satisfied with the repair. This all occurred prior to the May 21 post. To further address this issue going forward, we are developing a program which will allow prior customers of Advantage Metal Roofs the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty. The details of this program are currently being finalized and all Advantage Metal Roofs customers will be extended the opportunity to participate, if they so choose, including the Pelts. While we sympathize with Mr. & Mrs. [Member Name Removed], we realize that, in business, like in life, you cannot please everyone. And, unfortunately, it does appear that this is the case in this situation. We also realize that our response will, no doubt, illicit additional thoughts and emotions, supporting both sides of this issue. It is not our intent to litigate this case in this review, but rather we would like to extend an invitation for all readers to develop their own opinion by contacting us directly.
