My wife and I recently bought a house and wanted to pull out all of the carpet and put in hardwoods. We had four different flooring companies come out, all top rated.  We knew what we wanted from a look and durability standpoint, but we had no idea what product would be best for us.  Most of the companies that came out were professional and courteous.  They measured and directed us to visit their showroom to pick out our wood so they could finalize the pricing.  Seemed like they way things worked so we started down that path.
Then we met Fernando through a friend.  Fernando was immediately different.  He came to our house and really listened to what we said.  He then went home and hand built us samples, including staining them to subtle variations for us to get the exact finish we wanted.  He showed us reclaimed options from his stock, which we were very excited about, as well as options we could get ourselves.
One thing that really sold me was that he insisted that he would remove and refinish all of the baseboards so that the floor would be properly installed underneath.  The other companies we talked to wanted to out molding in front of it, which looks cheap.  A few insisted they could not remove the baseboards and reinstall them.
When I got his estimate, I was even more pleased.  He was the lowest price, mostly because he lets you buy the materials - unless you want some of his reclaimed wood which he sells very reasonably.
We ended up finding the perfect wood and buying it ourselves with Fernando's guidance.  He installed it beautifully, including custom cutting it around the fireplace and stairs, removing and refinishing all the baseboards, and even touching up paint around the edges.
But the story doesn't end there.  During the course of his work I got to know Fernando and his talents.  So I asked him if he could take our ugly round stair handrails and reshape them.  He did better.  He turned them into beautiful round edged squares and stained them to match the floors.
So I asked if he did tile. Sure he said,  You buy it, I'll install it.  And boom, new bathroom floors, painstakingly installed to perfection.
Then, one day he heard me struggling to find wood columns to replace the plastic ones out front.  I can build you some he said.  And he did. Beautiful pine, tapered columns at a fraction of the cost.
Fernando was so great, that our friends down the street were inspired and hired him do their floors as soon as he finished ours.  I cannot recommend him highly enough.  We grew to love Fernando and had no problem with him working in our home while we were away.  He was very corteous and always communicated well, locked up properly and kept things clean and orderly.
Don't waste your time on big flooring shops.  Fernando will get you better wood, perfectly installed with true craftsmanship, at a lower cost.
